Most IM's are allowing 2500-3000 to register nowadays. Don't know about this one specifically.

As for the swim start, looking at pictures of the host hotel and that canal, I'd be pretty shocked if they did a mass start. It may have just been the picture, but that thing didn't look very wide. It'd be like doing an IM swim down at the San Antonio Riverwalk (minus the nasty green water).

I called the BT LoveInn (Residence Inn) to add another room to my reservation and they didn't have a record of my reservation.

I just rebooked, but I got the last room, they wouldn't let me book 2.

i've swam in the lake several times and it's hard to imagine a 2 loop course.  it's not a small area, but it's not too big/wide either.  i was thinking something like this (see attachment...green star is the start at north shore park and the red star is the end at town green park).  it's about 2.4 miles if i used maymytri.com correctly.

edit:  sorry for the crappy pic.  also, the lake is pretty shallow as you get closer to the banks.  it's rocky at the bottom in places, but for those non-fish-like swimmers like me it might feel like a little insurance to be able to touch bottom if the swim isn't going well.  especially if the water temp gets too hot for wetsuits.

Okay - it looks like Residence Inn Market Square IS open (as many people have found) - it was showing as unavailable yesterday when I tried to add one more room. I did notice now the rates are more than when I booked, so maybe they were unavailable while they were adjusting everything for the "race rates." I'm sure it will go fast though, so if you haven't booked yet, do it NOW!

Just booked my room at the Residence Inn Market Street for Friday through Monday. Dont think I will want to drive back to Dallas after this is over with!

I'm Geeked!!!! but I am sure that will wear off and then I will start thinking about the distances (since this will be my first IM) and start wondering what i was thinking! LOL

The race is Saturday. You might want to drive down Thursday and stay Thursday night.

Agreed. If it follows protocol from other Ironman races, you will be required to check in to the race by about 4pm on Thursday - check-in will most likely run Wednesday and Thursday, usually sometime around the hours of 10-4. Friday you will be required to check in your bike and transition bags, probably sometime around 10-3. Athlete meeting/dinner will be Thursday night.

x3 to Comet's suggestion on getting there Thursday.  Registration/packet pick up, etc will start Wednesday, and if it is like other IMs, they will have the swim course open for practice swims Thursday and  Friday morning as well.

You might want to try online - sometimes there are still rooms available online when they aren't available by phone. I checked right before I posted that message this morning and was able to add another room online.

Warming up my Mastercard!

Calling my bank so a fraudulent flag doesn't hit my card. Unusual for these kinds of purchases for me! Don't need any snags when trying to register!

They stopped doing the Gatorade practice swims.  I think something about insurance liability.

That and they canned Gatorade.   Happy signing up day to everyone!! I will be cheering you on for sure--maybe in person, maybe through the computer but I'm excited for everyone!!

Well, that stinks!  I wasn't aware of this...but I imagine there will be plenty of "unofficial" practice swims going on.

x2 on the swims...

I live a mile from the lake and have toyed with idea of an "unofficial" early morning swim practice with a buddy of mine, lol...dunno how much trouble we'd get in if caught.

Good luck today!  Hope everyone gets registered...

Out of curiosity, wonder what this does to the CB&I Tri....can't imagine it's going to happen now.

I logged in fine. Also, got an "error" when I tried to register and it said "site upgrade." Earlier I got a standard message that registration wasn't open.

if you call the woodlands resort and conference center, they'll book you a room. website just shows sold out, but i called and they had room available. just saying.

bt love inn is less expensive though for a 2 room suite vs. the regular room at the woodlands resort.

but - woodlands resort is open if you call - (281) 367-1100 or (800) 433-2624

aredeef33 - 2010-06-25 9:21 AM x2 on the swims...

Out of curiosity, wonder what this does to the CB&I Tri....can't imagine it's going to happen now.

One of the articles I read about the race indicated that part of the reason they picked the May 21st date is so that other events such as CB&I would not be adversely effected.  So it sounds like CB&I is still a "go"

Good to know,

The CB&I Tri remaining unchanged would be good...would "guarantee" at least 2 days of Lake Woodlands being available for some open water swims, the last week of April.
