LostSheep - 2011-01-27 8:14 AM Skiing isn't a cakewalk so it definitely helps.

Just thought I'd share that work is getting in the way. I've had to work late most every night this week and it's effecting my routine and sleep and the next mornings workout.

Work can be a bother!

Work is definitely for the birds! Kids can get in the way as well. Thinking about trading my 3 in on newer models that sleep all night and aren't so needy.

Work pays the bills and affords me tri money, so no complaints there.

My kids on the other hand, try to drain that money as fast as possible.  Between child care and food, it's tough.   I can't complain about my 5 and 4 year old sleeping, they sleep great once we get them to bed.  Now, if we could just get them to sleep in on the weekends, we would be good.

I've got 3 boys within four years.  I already have nightmares about my future grocery bills.

My 11 year old regularly eats more than I do.   In a couple years I think we'll need another kitchen just for him.  Not an ounce of fat on the kid, either.

Scary.

Even though I'm a little sick, I got some good news last night!

My race kit from Team Red White & Blue was delivered!! Hoorah! (Hat & shirt). That makes my day and makes me feel pretty good about racing for them this year

Check out my logs if you'd like more info on Team RWB and their mission. Pretty awesome group with some good motives and plans!

A couple we hang out with has a 15 year old son, who is a phenom swimmer. Already being talked to by D1 schools. They say a normal workout for his team is 8 to 10,000 yards. I swear he must eat 10,000 calories a day, and he doesnt weigh 100lbs soaking wet. Everytime I see him he has food in his mouth.

I'm always starving after swimming.

3 min test this morning. Ouch. 292watt average. exact same as 5 weeks ago. WTF?

So we got a foot of snow yesterday which screwed up my run.  I'm going to try to get to the gym this evening to make it up on the treadmill.  Only problem is I'll also need to hit the treadmill this weekend to get a long run in.  Not really looking forward to 75+ minutes on the treadmill but c'est la vie.

I was supposed to have an easy run Thurday, rest friday, long run Sat and rest Sunday before starting next week with an easy run on Monday.  Would I be better off with a easy run tonight and long run on Saturday with rest on Sunday, or run tonight, rest tomorrow, long run on Sunday then start next week normally?

Race Report! Race Report!

Been a little while since I have seen a race posted in here, so here is a shorty to quell the outcry. Or hold your interest for 10 seconds. Or whatever.

Race link.

-----

Ok, serious question time. This race was hilly. My calculator says that this was was 7.3% slower than I could typically achieve on a dead flat course (33 minutes - 6:38/mile). My half is about half as hilly as this race. I'm trying to figure out what to shoot for and what pace to try and hold for this half. 1:35? 1:37? 1:39?

I've felt like death slightly warmed over this weekend.

Yesterdays fever was 101, and today's 102. I've managed to get it down to 100ish, but it still sucks. Whatever this is is terrible. Headache, throwing up, sore throat, deep cough, fever, chills...

I really don't think it could get much worse!

Hope nobody else has this crap!!

I got in 80 minutes on the treadmill yesterday.  Pretty much sucked but it felt good to put in (close to) a full week working out for a change.

I don't see how  you put in 80 mins on the dreadmill, I was on it for 25 this morning and thought I was going to go crazy.

Good Race Report Sand.  For Mercedes, I would keep a steady pace thru mile 9, then build from there, keeping your goal in mind.  Although miles 10-12 are probably the most boring, they tend to be the flatter sections heading back into downtown.

I like the run around the parks (Mile 7-9), so I typically pick it up too much around there and end up paying the price later on in the run (Mile 12-13).

For the record I despise miles 10-12.  Those long straights seem to stretch on to California.  The elevation bump 1/2-1/4 mile from the end isn't my favorite, either.

Thanks for the advice.  Last year I died at about mile 10.  Thus all the longer runs this year to try and develop the endurance to finish it out properly.

Trust your training and stick to your plan.  Looks like you have some good training runs under your belt.

Once you turn onto 5th Ave S, it's a mental game from there.

I died at VRichards last year. Mile 10ish. It was a mind game of 5k left, 4k left, etc. I think you've put a good bit in the bank to be ready for it.

So, with the flu here, likely to take a week to kick, and 2 weeks to go to Mercedes, think my hopes and dreams of sub 2 are gone? PR last year was 2:10. If it matters, my RHR is around 90-100 right now

ok, i gotta eat and get back to bed.

How was everyone's week?  Like I posted before a sinus infection will wreck your numbers.  The only positive moment was yesterday's run.  10.17 miles in 80 minutes.  HR was still 5-10 beats high for the paces.
