I finally had did my first 1000 TT in the pool tonight.   As was expected, I went out a bit too fast and then had to slow down a little.  Overall, pretty happy with my time of 18:53 (1:53/100).  What I am NOT happy with is my ability to concentrate and count 100's while pushing pace.  Unfortunately I lost track after about 200 yards and am not sure if I did 1000, 1050 or 1100.  I penalized myself by giving me the 1000.

what I did during my 1000y TT is hit the lap button on my stop watch every so often.  I wouldn't actually look at it...but judging by my splits, I know how many laps I did.

I normally pace around 1:40, or :50 per 50 yards...so If I see a 1:40 split, I know that was 100, If I see a 3:20 split I know that was 200...so on so forth.  Add up all the splits and I know how much I did.

I too lost count during my 1000...but I kind of just guessed...and judging by my splits...I guessed right.

Heading to the pool now and that will be it for today. And you're correct, it was retinoblastoma. We could see a cloudiness in her eye when we looked at her at a certain angle.

Switched my days around. It was raining here yesterday and I didn't feel like putting my bike on the trainer just for 30 min. So I've still got my 30 min bike and 30 min run today.

Then Easter, Easter and more Easter. Yesterday we made cookies, chocolate covered pretzels and decorated a gingerbread bunny house. Today we are coloring eggs and making flubber for the kids to pass out to their cousins. Then later we're off to Granny's house to celebrate with family.

I should really be training right now!

3 hours in the saddle today, and the weather isn't half bad, the sun might even come out to play!

Quick post...coming back tomorrow.  Got about an hour run in almost every day down here...can I just say that even though I understand it intellectually, I was still surprised to see how much slower I have to run in the heat to stay Z2.  Lots of OWS too, saw fish and a big ray!

One quick question for the big brains here...once I get back home and settled, would it be best to get back on my plan and continue on like nothing happened, or would it be a good idea to do a bike heavy week next week to make up for a little lost time this week.  I don't want to go off the rails trying to make up for bike time lost, but I hate that I've missed two long bikes...especially since I feel most unsure of myself as a cyclist.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts you can offer me.

I've been training fairly steady for the last few months and took an unplanned day off yesterday.  I know it's not a big deal but it does bother me.  Work hours are long this weekend but there is light at the end of the tunnel.  No long bike for me this weekend but I will make it up this upcoming week as I have the next 7 days off come Monday.  I'm less than one month from IM Texas and starting to get a bit anxious about getting my long bikes done.

Well I had a very interesting ride today. Plan was for a long ride of about 3 hours strictly done in the big ring. Mostly flat course with a few climbs of around 8%. Anyway I was having a great ride and feeling really strong when all the sudden what I thought was a gunshot turned out to be my tire exploding at about 25 mph. Scared the crap out of me and it didn't help that I was in the middle of nowhere 30 miles outside of a small city that I have just moved to. Made a quick call to my gf, but she was at work and the handful of others I had numbers of were not available as well. Was able to get a pickup from a co-worker about an hour later after I walked a mile or so back to the nearest town. Bummed my great ride was cut short, but an interesting experience to deal with nonetheless. Guess I should make some more friends this summer for reasons like this!

Nice swim/run workout today. Went with my training buddies to Lake Del Valle (Livermore). We did ~1.4 mile OWS followed by a 2:10 run. On the swim, I practiced drafting a little bit off my buddy. We were told the water was ~60 degrees and for some reason I was SUPER cold on the second half. I was shivering for a solid 20 minutes after too. Something tells me it was more like 58.

The fire trails we ran on were either really steep up or really steep down, not much relief in between. I have 340 miles on my shoes and I think they are finally retired...I developed a hot spot pretty fast on my right heel, which turned into a serious blister. It was causing enough discomfort where I was walking the uphill portions. On the positive side, the hills and the lake were beautiful. Everything is green right now, and I'm glad we got to experience it that way - it turns brown pretty fast once it warms up.

Time for some new shoes obviously, and time to lay off running for a few days to rest the feet. Cycling should be okay as I have a long bike planned for tomorrow. Had a great dinner and now I'm ready for some shut-eye!

Happy Easter everyone.

Long trainer ride yesterday (5:11 -- almost hit 100 miles but I couldn't stand another 15 minutes on the trainer) followed by a 45 min T run.  Today I have a long run and bike intervals.  Weather is looking crappy (again) this morning but I'm hoping it clears up once I get outside.

I feel like its never going to really be spring.

Rain in the forecast here almost every day this week and it has already been raining consistently since Thursday night. Yuck.

I'm up early playing Easter Bunny this morning. The baskets are out and eggs are hiding. Now I'm just waiting for everyone to wake up! Later we are off to church then drive to my parents to celebrate with my family (2 hour drive).

Training today calls for a 45 min bike and 30 min swim. No pools open on Easter Sunday so I'll just do the ride before we leave I guess.

Have a great day everyone!

Happy Easter everyone. I have a houseful of visitors and more coming later this morning for Easter brunch. It's a beautiful sunny morning and I'm hoping it stays that way until later this afternoon so I can get outside for my workout after they all leave. Master plan calls for a short run but if it's warm enough I want to ride outside. I'm a total fair weather rider as I hate riding or running outside if it's cold out.

Fair weather rider here too! Today there's a chance of rain so i'm on the trainer for as long as i can stand it. Funny story: i needed new tires and was pretty embarassed to learn that they are sold as singles, not in pairs. Didn't realize this until i was home installing it. I was looking around on the floor thinking i must have dropped the second one. Oh well, what's another $60 at this point? The pretty yellow one is on the front for now, old one on the back.

I had a great T-Run off my trainer ride this morning, and a good start to my specific training for Racine, minus the exploding tire yesterday.

Does anyone have any tire recommendations to vouch for? I am currently on Vittoria Diamante Pro's and despite the fact that I like the tires when I was on them, I had too many flats, and of course yesterday's explosion (possible tube installation error on my behalf), so I am looking into a new pair. Many have voiced their opinions on the Michelin Pro 3's so far.

Enjoy the rest of Easter everyone, I'm taking the dogs out back for their own easter egg hunt!

Ben - I just got a couple Continental Grand Prix 4000's. I'll let you know if I have any problems but so far so good. I can't say I know anything about tires, just took a recommendation from my LBS.

Got to ask - where was your spare tube?  I never ride without one, and if I happen to have two flats, well that's just bad karma, but I'm at least looking to neutralize semi-bad karma if I get one flat. Anyone else not carry a spare(s) while training?

Happy Easter everyone.

Sorry, I know your plan is very focused on time, but I don't believe I will ever come close to riding 5hrs on a trainer.

As for me, 16km run this morning.  Planned on running z1/2 but ditched that plan a couple of km into the run and went strictly off pace as I've only got two more long runs until my HM.  It as time to feel howthe legs felt pushing just a tiny bit more than I ahve for the longer runs.  Next week I'll go back to the z1/2 pacing as it calls for 20km.

Hope everyone had a great weekend and got to spend time with family.  I'm finally done with a 7 day work stretch.  Seems patients are getting sicker and sicker.  After I got home tonight I managed to get in a decent run.  This coming week is going to be high volume and I'm excited to get started.  Included are 4 swims and another 1000 TT.  Hope the sprint drills are paying off.  Looks like rain for the next several days and I do need to get in a century ride during this time.
