Hey Canada....what do you think of this?  Good location?  2 140.6 races on the same day in your neck of the woods!

Lots of interesting plans for the next few months.  I like reading everyone's goals!

No one brought this up so I will.  LANCE.  I'm very disappointed.  Paul says I am the glass half full girl on too many things.  Boo-Hoo.  I wanted so much to have him be clean.

I wanted him to be clean too but after reading the Tyler Hamilton book and a few of the recent things coming out I think it would have been a miracle if he'd won in that era without taking drugs.

The sad thing really for me is that he's come out looking like the ringleader rather than just another rider caught up in the pro-racing drug era.

Good Morning!!  It's been quite a week, with racers getting it done in fine fashion,  someone sandbagging, someone celebrating their 7th wedding anniversary and a lot of us sitting around wondering what's next!  So.....who's planning to hit the line this weekend? Do tell!

And for slackers, we have a little over 2 months before we end '12.  What's the one thing you'd still like to accomplish this year?

Add me to the sitting around wondering what to do next group.  I have no solid plans, except to spend the next week touring New England.  I will regroup when I return.  Just trying to hold steady and get used to eating "winter rations".

As for something to accomplish before the end of the year.........  I've got nothing.  Right now, I just need some rest.  Getting up at 4:45 am gets old really fast.  Here's something--I want to spend some time trail running just for the fun of it Laughing

Say what?  Are you coming anywhere near the Boston area?

I am too disappointed. I have been on his side because I hate cancer so much, and admire what he has done to help many many people. But if he's a cheat, then he is what he is. SAD..

Running question for all the cold weather runners out there; why does my does my gluteus maximus get cold when I run no matter how I dress?  Sweatin' like a pig everywhere else ........

CX race was canceled for Saturday due to a forecast of 50 degrees and Rain so the Park Dept pulled the permit due to possible damage to the park.  Sux for the organizers that the weather cancels a CX race.

To all our racers this weekend.....  REPRESENT!!!

Only one race left this year - an HM at the end of Nov.  My remaining goal is to try and break 1:40 in that race.   My current HM PR (1:41:xx)  was from the same race last year.

fyi: I'm visiting family in the US for 2 weeks and will be taking it pretty easy, i.e., no swimming, little to no cycling, but hopefully logging some run time.

Good luck to anyone racing this weekend.

must not be using your glutes when you run.  Try an all out sprint for 100 yards or so - that should engage your glutes....or stop and do 10 squats every 5 minutes Wink

Confused.  you run?  I don't really have an answer to the question, but i will tell you that my butt stays cold when I run too.  I'd say it is because it's so lean, but that doesn't seem believable in my case.

We got a note from the Hustle sharing their cancellation/weather policy this weekend.  Tomorrow we're supposed to have severe thunderstroms, but I believe the show will go on.  Marathoners will have it the worst.  Why not convince "the bride" to visit her parents and you come do the 10K with me?

The Bride is working Sat and that set of parents left for Florida at the first sign of winter.  A 10K race sounds like a lot of work but I will make you a deal.  I will come to Madtown and race with you on Saturday if you ride down the street and race CX with me on Sunday in Verona!

OK coach, serious question.  Am I supposed to be using my glutes when I run?  I already work on keep my hips open, how much more glute engagement can I get?  Or maybe, I just need to be running faster?

Forget about Sunday.  I am too big of a clod to even consider that sport.

I have a total of 6 10ks on my calendar this Fall.  Pick one, Baraboo would give you a chance to engage your glutes which you most certainly do at some level even today.  Glutes are hip stabilizers.  Are yours weak?

Meh. Calgary was the top represented city at IMC this year. Alot of peeps will be sticking to the Penticton course i believe. The 1st timers will go to Whistler, and what they lose from our area they will gain from the Pacific NW peeps. It no longer becomes a local race for me. 12 hr drive from here. It will be a nice course, but if I do another IM I doubt it will be there. It would probably be an easy course like MOO,Texas or Florida.

Edit to add : Go Non-yankees!!

I am weak .....  period.  And these races you are talking about are these same races that you referenced earlier here:

SSMinnow - 2012-10-10 9:31 AM  I'll start! I'd like to bust past 46:00 in a 10K yet this year.  I'm giving myself a few opportunities to do it and am prepared to HURT LIKE HE$$ to get it.

Sounds like I would need to do some serious glute work to even come close to keeping up!!!  I admit that I did re-open the (messy according to some) pain cave last night but that is usually reserved for biking in my world.  Surprised

I would expect you already have strong glutes from all the power cycling you're doing, but then again, you may be relying mostly on your quads.  Here are a couple links worth a look (getting stronger glutes is on my list of things to do this winter):

Dino is awesome. Love the running, pal. I'm so not worthy when it comes to bike miles...

I thought butts stayed cold when running due to the fat. After any run, I can tell exactly where I carry my fat, as that area is cold to the touch (butt, a little on the paunch, etc.). Of course none of this has anything to do with glutes, so maybe I should just be quiet now.

Have a great weekend, peeps!! We finally, finally have some rain here -- it is so weird to type that. But we've essentially been dry for 3 months and we are all parched and dusty. Long run is out of the way for me this week, so I get to batten down the hatches, make soup, recover, cheer on my favorite soccer player, and enjoy the weekend. It's all full of awesome!!!

Anyone here tried deep water pool running???

I'm seriously thinking about doing it for the next 3 weeks leading up to my Oly, I've read great things about it and I think 3 weeks off road running might be what I need to finally settle this ankle tendon problem.

I haven't tried it, but I have a friend who has been deep water running as she works through an ankle injury. While you're at the pool, try some vertical kicking. We've been doing that at masters practice and I think it would be a great running substitute. You keep your hands up out of the water and kick flutter kick or dolphin kick in a standing position. We've been doing repeats of 40 seconds kick, 20 seconds rest (float or tread water to rest, don't hang on the wall). If you're a strong kicker, you can make it harder by holding a medicine ball or anything heavy up over your head. Good luck! I hope you can get that ankle healthy and get back on the trails.

Can you take a class? There is actually technique to doing this correctly to get the most out of it.  I tried it when I had my SFX and was a total dork.  My HR never even made it out of Z1.

PS.  Do you know why you got that injury in the first place?  if you don't, figure it out.  Rest alone is not usually the answer to injuries.  PSA over.

I'm back from my 10K!!!  Weather sucked--wind was crazy, rain was sort of sideways; the hills were relentless, but I had great fun getting it done and two pukes at the end tell me I did all I could.  47:05 was good enough for #1/41 in my AG and #6/436 female overall so I'll be content for now. Tongue out  More work to do!!!!!

Now I'm switching between the Badger game and Kona!

Kyla is absolutely right on the glute chills... it's the fatty tissue.  Not nearly as much blood flow in this tissue so it doesn't get as much or retain heat.   It's a good insulator for those of us with plenty of extra but it does get cold with the winter weather.
