I ran 151.66 miles in October with a 10-day recovery and I'm still standing.  That's a PR for me!  Andy, Congratulations on capturing the monthly honors.

Congrats Andy with the #1 spot again. Good effort. Wish Ernesto and Gabe the best of luck on the weekend. Hope it all goes well for you Gabe with the flooding and mess everywhere. Ernesto: enjoy the moments, you have done the work and hours so you will kill it.

I ran 151.66 miles in October with a 10-day recovery and I'm still standing.

That's a huge increase in volume and looking at your logs your October mileage is more than 25% of your total annual run volume in 2012.  The fact that you compressed all that mileage into 20 days is very impressive.

Be careful with the voume because unlike increaing biking or swiming volume, your body needs a greater amount of time to adapt to significant increases in running volume.  If you push too hard, you increase the chances of injury.  I learned this hard way and it took me several years to get to the point where I can take on monthly run volumes of +150M. Keeping your pace in check will reduce the risks of injury.

Got in one last bike ride in October, two hours on the trainer.  I'm all about multi tasking though, I was able to set up the laptop and get about half of my coaching re-certification done, I'll do the other half today on the trainer.  It's almost perfect interval training, the online recert consists of a bunch of 6-10 minute videos where I can go hard, then a couple minutes of easy spinning while I type in the answers to a short quiz, then repeat.

Joe, when I get new shoes I try and get at least one long run on them before wearing them in a race, just to be sure I won't get any blisters.  For instance, I have a newer pair of shoes that I started breaking in about a month ago that I'll be using in Arizona, and wore them for a half marathon after I had gotten in a 10 mile training run.

Today I took my wife to the ART chiro to work on her back (she had a massage that wreck her back about 2 weeks ago - muscle related) . His office is actually inside a Orthopedic/Sports doctor, and on the counter they had an Ad for Enorgen (www.eno2rgen.com). Its a non-medical container of 90% oxygen. The literature recommends 2-3 sprays of 3 sec. each 5 minutes before exercising, for "improved" performance and endurance. It also says it can be used during exercise.

Sounds intriguing, but the skeptic in me says its hogwash. I guess breathing pure oxygen can lead to decrease levels of lactic acid build up, but does that apply to 9 seconds of pure O2 too? Maybe during T1 or T2?

It also mentions that it can cure hangovers....now That is something I am willing to try...

Thanks all for the good wishes and congrats Andy and E for winning the Oct. challenge!

E, we have your bib# but what's the app we need to download to follow you on the phone?

On my side, there is a good chance that I will be able to fly into LaGuardia tomorrow, so I will keep my fingers crossed.

Today a 30 min taper run

Ernesto and Gabe - have fun on the weekend!

Like Matthew, I have been hit with a virus that makes me want to sleep all the time. Other than dragging my sleepy butt to work, I actually managed to get an OWS today in the lake. It was incredibly windy, but the lake looked OK, so I went for it. Not surprisingly fund out that after you turn around, things look quite different... It was a serious battle back to the shore. As stupid as it was, I like challenges like that.

I am out of the challenge as well. My first OLY is in November 11, and then planning to take 2 easy weeks before starting training for my first HM in February. So while Ernesto and Gaby's absence opens up the fight for 1st, my absence also opens up the fight for last.

Samy, thanks for the idea. I've been looking for some performance enhancing substances for a while now. Unlike Lance, I hate needles and this seems like a great alternative! Just in case I get to the top of the field - it is undetectable - brilliant!

Ready to hit it tomorrow! You can track updates in real time from a little device I rented and it uploads all throughout the race but it doesn't work in the water. The website is www.myathletelive.com and you just search by name. My bib number for those that prefer www.ironmanlive.com will be 1566.On a different note, NYC has been cancelled by Mayor Bloomberg, a lot of controversy on both sides of the spectrum. Bad news is that Gabe probably made it to New York anyway, so that's a bummer.

32' tempo run yesterday (25' at slightly slower than 10K pace).  Final speed workout.  Rest today and this weekend the mileage really ramps down (5 on Sat and 8 on Sun). Next week's schedule is even lighter in anticipation of race day.  Good news is that masuesse got her power back so I have a deep tissue massage scheduled for Tuesday.

Haven't really thought about my race strategy for next week.  Weather looks to be warming up a bit.  I'm thinking hard about the 3:25 pace group.

Go Ernesto!!!!! Looking forward to tracking your progress tomorrow.  Have fun and be safe.

It is a shame that it took so long to cancel the NYC marathon and Bloomberg's stubborness screwed a lot of people.  However, I do think it is the right decision for a lot of reasons. One week is not enough time and the City is still in shambles.

Ernesto is on the bike. Swim and T1 together are unofficially at 1:16:52, which is about 5 minutes better than his last Ironman.

BTW. Official Ironman athlete tracker has a big lag. I'm using http://www.myathletelive.com/storage/races/2012/IMFlorida/index.htm...
