no racing here and I did not get to see Kona - waiting for the re-runs. Great to hear that there were two new first time winners. Good luck Melissa, Julia and Tony!! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() fattyfatfat - 2012-10-17 8:17 PM I'm staying in tri shorts. Not sure about the run yet though. What tri shorts do you use John? Did you do any long training rides with that same level of padding? For my HIM I had the De Soto 400 mile shorts underneath my wetsuit and then changed for the run. Next time around I would like to go for a trisuit the whole way, but suspect I will need to log some serious miles on the bike with that trisuit to be able to tolerate that. I guess that since you're doing IMFL, you won't have a wetsuit. |

I guess that since you're doing IMFL, you won't have a wetsuit. lots of training rides in oomph( your standard tri pad) and 400's i switched over from 400 mile shorts to oomph distance shorts earlier this year. since then a couple things have happened. first you can no longer by oomph shorts online and the website says its out of their control. sorry, but but in this day and age, to use that as an excuse for your business = very shady. second, i've completely change my bike set-up and need pockets on my shorts. oomph has one but it sucks. so, i went back to the 400's for the half iron a few weeks ago. actually i bought a new pair and the first time i ever put them on was race morning (ha!) i raced (lol) IMTX in 400 bibs but that pair finally gave in. the problem with the new 400's is they are a bit big, after the race they were hanging off like regular shorts. problem is they were still comfortable. so i'm going to order a pair of large and see if i like em'. don't believe the bs you hear about not running in 400's. i think they are one of the most comfortable pair of shorts i've ever run in. i know lots of IM peeps from bop to kq that run in them. i've never worn a trisuit but i suspect if you're going to use a trisuit make sure you're comfortable taking a leak on the bike. (just don't leave your shoes in the car overnight if you do this. the car won;t smell good in the morning and your kids will think you're gross but then you can blame it on your wife and they'll love you again. just say'in) florida is legal race, so we'll be sporting wetsuits. |

Lots to do from getting sponsors, volunteers, porta potties and the most important thing, the kegs... Awesome. How can you not love you some CX when kegs are the most important thing?? |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() For those that missed it, myself included, the live coverage is available for viewing at http://kona.ironman.com/. I'm only 50 mi in on the bike and no "favorite" so far. I did catch a little tidbit from the head commentator, Greg Welch, which made me pause. He said some people discount seasickness as the reason for failed nutrition and recommends people who suffer from motion sickness to wear one of those patches for races. Guess who suffers from severe motion sickness???? ME! This really makes me wonder if that is what happened to me. Good Luck, Melissa and Julia!! Edited by mighty mom 2012-10-18 10:05 AM |

Want to borrow my 'used' size L? fyi. I used them all race at IMC. didnt feel like i had poopy pants at all. I actually like the compresssion on the quads versus running shorts. |

Guess who suffers from severe motion sickness???? ME! This really makes me wonder if that is what happened to me. Good Luck, Melissa and Julia!! One of my friends suffers from motion sickness when doing triathlons, basically she gets dizzy in the H20. I would think you would know if that happened to you. She solved her issue with non drowsy dramamine and ear plugs. I still wonder if you swallowed a load of h20/green stuff that made you sick. I do swallow H20 when swimming, but maybe I've built up a tolerance to the crap in Lake Monona. Good luck racing fools. Work hard, puke at the end and then smile knowing you gave it your all! My favorite KONA moment was definitely watching Cave hold off Rinny. I like Rinny, but I loved the tough girl mentally CAVE had to offer. I've also really enjoyed the post race interviews with each of the pros. Good little insights to tuck away. |

Too bummed. ANd while I am sure he doesn't know what to say, the silence is deafening to many of his fans. I can take that he took PEDs while cycling with the rest of the losers, but the lying about it is something that I find really tough to swallow. |

I'm a bit surprised too about the lack of Lance talk, maybe it's just too much of a let down after all those great TdF moments??? |

For me, it's like when my sister told me the truth about Santa Claus. I already knew on some level, but I still wanted to believe. The thing that really sucks about this is how it could affect Livestrong. |

I already knew on some level, but I still wanted to believe. What? Really? What is the truth about Santa Claus? You wanted to believe in what? (I still vividly remember my older brother crushing my belief in a big way by showing me where the Santa presents were hid a couple of days before Santa brought them!)
That was a great analogy to the Lance situation, I feel the same way ..... |

Where can I buy some of this EPO.....?! |
![]() ![]() |
Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Just joking about the EPO, but it got me thinking: most of us have a bit of athletic potential but we ended up playing it safe and going to college, getting a safe job and living a safe, normal life. Professional athletes are not only hugely talented but they also had the courage to ignore the safe life path and take a risk that they could earn a living by a different, less conventional route with far less security and huge risks of it not working out. Basically, these people are different. The temptation to take PED's and the likelihood that they will take a risk is probably different for people with this personality trait compared to us regular people. Just a thought.... |
