dcon - 2009-09-13 3:43 AM Wow.  What a wonderfully calm lake - hope it stays that way for your race Nicole.  Good luck!!

No, it didn't stay that calm. We swam sort of a triangular course: angling toward the right heading out from shore ~500m, left turn for ~500m, then another left for ~500m back towards shore. On the first leg I was swimming into some chop and kept catching a mouthful of water; this 500m sucked! Once I made the first turn conditions improved. Throughout the swim I was having a terrible time seeing the buoys and never felt like I was on course (but there was always someone nearby so I was never alone). Toward the end of the swim I saw people walking all around me while I was still swimming. I've always been told to keep swimming until you start feeling bottom during your stroke but I decided to get up when I saw the walkers moving faster than I was. Because of the long run back to TA I decided to take a moment in the shallows to get the wetsuit off.

The bike was much harder than I was expecting and it felt uphill into the wind both ways. I was hoping to do between 19 and 20mph but ended up doing just over 18. I ran through TA, racked the bike, dropped the helmet, ran out of TA and across the mat, and then looked for where to turn in my chip. I was clearing out of TA while the people around me were heading out for the run. End of my day. End of my season.

18mph is fasssst! sounds like a good day!! hows those feet? hoping that you heal quickly~~ have a good off season...and make sure you stay in touch...training or not related, ok?

how rude of him! hows the weather been? getting any relief? speaking of weather...last nite we had a huge amount of dry lightning due to cold/hot meeting over the mtns near the coast....was great for my husband and I...but our poor dog was beside herself.

today is a long bike ride and then off to work an event tonight...have a great weekend Lisa! make sure the hubby gives you a raincheck on that bike ride you missed.

see you at the end of October.

The weather has gone from 100 degrees without rain, to 80 degrees and misty drizzly rain over the last few days.  Ready for that clear dry fall weather!

we had some rain last nite too! very odd weather these past days here...but not complaining! stay dry and hoping that I bring some of that cool dry weather in October.

80 degrees with some moisture sounds much better then 100 and humid! hang in there!!!!

Nicole: you have a Garmin 305, right? Are you satisfied with it? I'm considering getting one, but in looking at the dimensions, I realize it is longer than my wrist is wide.

I love my 305, but it is big! It's my understanding that the new 310 is slightly smaller and is also fully waterproof. Garmin has smaller units but I don't know the particulars on the other models.

I want winter to arrive SOON!!!  Actually, racing season is really starting here -- I'm talking about running races.  We don't do a lot of racing during the summer months because it's too hot and awful.  But I have a 5K, a reverse duathlon, then a 10K, and then 2-3 half marathons to get me through the winter.

It's backwards -- bike, run, bike.  They have this whole system worked out, where they transport your running shoes out to the transition point, hand them to you in a paper bag, you rack your bike and change your shoes, go run 5.6 miles, then change again and they transport your shoes back to the finish.  It's lots of fun!!!

And I wish you could run right now too, but you will again soon if you follow your healing plan, right?

I'm working out with my running group every Saturday and some week days, and really enjoying it.  I've got a sprint tri coming up next month, registered for St. Jude's HM in Memphis in Decemeber and USA Fit HM in Sugarland in January, plan a couple of 5Ks, and a 5 mile run on Thanksgiving morning.

Dan, I have the 305, and love it.  It is big, but any smaller and I'd have a hard time reading the numbers.  It isn't water proof, so I use my Polar during my tris.

We are finally starting to see a little less humidity, and it looks like the lows over the next couple of mornings are going to be in the upper 60s with highs in the 80s!  I don't want it to cool off too much before my sprint in October though since I don't have a wetsuit.

yeah....I remember looking at the clock the first ten to fifteen minutes over and over and thinking...omg...this is going to be TWO REALLY LONG HOURS! then after about half hour to the hour...I must have been in this so-called zone...cuz I truly felt like I could go forever...I do have to say that when I rounded the corner of my street....I was one happy gal! the zone must have left me again! haha

thanks Cheri for your help....should be fun....

Way to go with the long run Julie! I think it will be another two months at least before I hit the 2 hour running mark, but I'm not in a hurry.

Congrats on the 3rd place swim Nicole! And, thanks for the Garmin feedback.  Fantastic swim and bike goals!!

Cheri: sounds like you've got a full plate on tap for the fall/winter.

Lisa: thanks for the Garmin feedback.   Looks like you too have some serious racing planned.

I've decided to start building up my running base to the half marathon level and also to increase my bike and swim training levels.   I do not have any racing plans for the remainder of the year, but am thinking of hitting 3 or 4 Olys next year along with 1 HIM.
