Congratulations Damnyankee! That is beautiful news. Hope the pregnancy goes well and your wife feels great all the way through, and the baby is healthy and happy.

My weather prediction: relatively cool/cloudy, and drizzle on the run. I wish! I love the weather everyone else hates. Must be my nordic/irish genes. Love that "northern weather crap" as someone else called it.

Taper, hmm. I am coming off an involuntary 10-day "premature taper" caused by traveling, funerals, and a respiratory illness/massive asthma attack. Gotta get back in the groove just in time to taper again. Weird and nerve-wracking. I am hoping my deep fitness from the past year's work will get me through and those 10 days won't matter too much. Just want to finish under the 17 hrs!

I am shot.  Anyone else feeling 'out of it'?  Like, I keep forgetting where I put stuff.  Losing track of time and days.  Things I did last week, my wife kindly informs me I just did yesterday.  Good times!

Dude you did 112 miles of training today.  What do you expect?

I did?  Wasn't that yesterday?

But seriously, it doesn't feel like I did it this morning.  This Ironman training is like doing drugs I tell yah.   And Drugs are Bad, mmmm-kay.  Ironman training is good - I think.

Great to hear about the taper, Fred.  I might just train right through this little Ironman race.

Drugs aren’t bad; abusing them is.

Tapering for me isn’t that bad.  True I feel anxious as in cocked, locked and ready to rock.

This actually might be quite accurate for some of us....  not that i know anyone.

LBS just retaught me how to change a flat.  I couldn't remember from last year.  No sarc font sadly!

GPS training schedule:
General Preparation - June 28 to July 4
Specific Preparation - July 5 to 11
Peak Training - July 12 to 18
Taper/Race - July 18 to 25

hahahahaha.   i'm laughing, b/c you are right on.

according to my logs I indeed switched from yellow to pink in the final week of June.   you can blame Fred.  i was content to bail & then he had to start making me reconsider.  you know, leaving me encouraging inspires & such.  jerk.

Say, where have you PA boys been hiding this guy?

I just cruised his logs and he's very much in contention for a Kona slot possibly. Has he posted in here? I see he's friends with Fred and James.

Curious to know what HR device you guys are using for training/racing? When I was up in LP last weekend my Polar RS200 was giving me all kinds of crazy readings while on the bike. There must have been frequencies in the area that were affecting the watch, which was especially frustrating b/c I did get good hr data from my rides.

Bob has posted in the LP thread.  He's a great runner and gifted triathlete for sure.  He is our Southern PA connection if you know what I mean.

I use a Garmin Edge 305 for the bike and a 405 for the run.  Check out the new Garmin 500.

He threw down a good HIM in the beginning of May also (Kinetic)---tough conditions that day---hot, WINDY! and he had been sick a week prior to the race apparently......I'm thinking he can have a GREAT race at IMLP!

Thanks Swishy!

But I now feel that my mind is polluted.

I can disagree with much of that.  I guess I to old and have my own way of doing things.

But hey it’s a great start.

What are the things you disagree with James?

“If Jimmy is "king of this random hill" at mile 46 of the bike...don't join him!”

I don’t like to be called Jimmy.  Sounds too much like a gangster.  Then again it may fit the PA gangland.

Really!  For me this whole article is too conservative and maybe that’s the point.  For me I push to close to that red line.  It seems to me it’s a hold back the bike and push the run thing.  Maybe I missed the point.

Train for the bike as you want to race and train for the run as you want to race.  WOW even the swim they want to hold back.  SO I hold back the swim I hold back the bike and push then run.  That just sounds like a pacing thing.

I mean last year I did ok.  Not super fast but some what of a respectable time.  My swim was right on and I pushed even in the fight at the start.  My bike was well paced after a slight adjustment and the then run; well mile 13 sure let me know I failed coming up that last hill with nutrition.  A couple of aid stations fixed that.  So if I would have slow the swim and bike I would have had a better run and race altogether this is what that article say too me.  I just don’t buy it.  I think I really would have been the same or slower.  Because I would have been on the course longer; just my thoughts.

It’s all just more theory imo.  If people do this and do it well OK then.  Maybe the article should drop some BIG names who use’s this approach.  Then again I don’t know many BIG names in the sport.

I don’t know if any of this makes sense but it does to me or maybe I just know what I am doing.
