Real question ahead: Does anyone use a good LED flashing light when they ride?  what brand? after so many accidents last summer in Wisconsin, I am in search of one.  Getting a side view for my helmet too.  I ride alone too much not to be prepared for the dope's on the road.

I have a few Firefly lights that I ordered from Road ID. They have some that clip on or you can get them on a velcro strap. They're nice and bright and good for riding or running.

On my group ride today someone told the group, don't worry Tony gets dropped on the hills on purpose just so he can work on his TT skills...

Gotta figure out how to make my legs go up hill better.

LOL, for those that train with power are you supposed to do 1.0 IF  rides for 3 hrs?

Raced a 2nd place AG & 13th overall out of about 600 runners in my 5 miler today (38:56)...this after a 22 mile long run & wieght session yesterday.  I'm happy that I was still not too slow on my tired legs.

Had a good 10k today. ran it in 53:07, which was 30 sec slower than last year. but if friggin' icy out there this morning. race winners were over 2min slower than last year, and lots of the peeps on our team ran 3-4 min slower than last year.

I was really hoping to PB this race, and blast years time away, but alas mother nature. I had a guy go down in front of me with about a mile left, I almost had to leapfrog him, but was all good. meh.

You were smart to take conditions under consideration.  Bigger fish to fry!  Spring is coming this year, right?

I use the  Blackburn FLEA 2.0 USB Front Headlight and Blackburn FLEA 2.0 USB Rear Tail Light.

I got from performance bike very bright and easy to install I am sure there are better but i like the low profile.

Congrats on a great race, Linda!! You never cease to amaze me.

I have one of these lights, but haven't installed it yet (lame). I should have two since I end up riding both bikes outside -- that's why I haven't installed it, ha. I'll say it again: Lame. Oh, and Suzy, company is based in Madison (PlanetBike)!

Was Reading the article on Managing Limiters: preparing to race in the Kona heat
Core temperature, hydration, liquid absorption and sweat rates: how they affect racing in the heat.

the article makes since because I believe that is what happened to me in Florida just got to hot and humid for what I was use to.

question is how do they measure the loss of fluids by sweating. I know I sweat a lot and is very salty but how much I do not know.

Lots of calculators out there, but this is the basic premise.  Key is under the exact same conditions which can be tough to replicate!

Nice race, Trevor!

Suzy, can't help you on the bike light, but thanks for bringing it up, it is something I have been wanting to do for awhile now.

I would like to give a huge thumbs up to the post long run ice bath!  I had not ever done one until today but was under strict orders to do this in order to speed recovery.  I have been very lucky to have very little soreness after long runs, but with a 3 hour run today and the marathon just two weeks away, I really want to be in tip top shape.  So, I did it and omg, my legs felt like they felt before I even ran, no exaggeration!  Amazing!  Thanks Suzy and all who suggested this over the past few years, geesh, what have I been missing out on!? (however painfully cold it was...it was worth it!)

Another thing that I finalized today was the use of Roctane gu.  I have been kind of leery of trying it because it has caffeine in it, but it has 125 mg of sodium vs only 40mg in the regular gu and I have been having salty crusting from my sweat and this niggling calf pull at the end of my runs.  Today, none!!!  And the more, the better, so I went through 4 gels and think I could have actually gone through 5!  It gave me such a hit of energy!  Anyhow, can you tell, I still have that runner's high thing going on?  And I found the perfect little belt to carry it in and I was completely unaware of it after the first mile or so (Spibelt)--sp?

This was my last long run and I am so happy it was calm out and sunny, temps in the low to mid 50's.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

30 seconds slower in crappy conditions sounds like a PB that is ready to happen.  Awesome job!

So what was your ice bath formula, Kim? Last time I tried one I lasted no more than 7 seconds. I just could not do it. I'm skeeered to try again. Glad it was a hit for you! And yay for the Roctane, too!! WOOT!
