Focus on the 6 million without power and getting the subways back up and running.Going to be interesting. Either going to be a huge success or a really bad idea! I'm not happy. A good friend of mine grew up on Staten Island and her family and many friends still live there. The stories are horrific. It's dispicable to think of all those resources being diverted to the race in such a time of need. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I got a girl I train with who was going to run the NYM. Her flight was cancelled obviously, but now she is trying to get out there. As of yesterday, she hadn't a flight confirmed so doubt she makes it out. But they are greater struggles in NY right now. We had two earthquakes off the mid-north west part of BC earlier this week. I was travelling close to that area on Mon-Wed. We were there when the one hit, but didn't feel a think. 7.7 and 6.3 i think back to back days. I heard a story this morning about Pittsburgh Steelers. They will be flying in on Sunday morning to play the Giants. As they couldn't get rooms for the teams to stay in. |

I was watching FOX news this morning and the locals are very unhappy that generators are being used to power tents for the athletes. It does look like the race is donating $1MM to the victims, but even it is not being received well. Really think they could have come up with a Plan B. |

People are lining up for hours to get gas in their cars, and most don't have a powered house to return to. Yet I'm sure the race will have all the gas it needs to generate timing, heat, etc. Not right. I also think that police officers, ambulances, etc., can be put to better use elsewhere. Sounds like I'm preaching to the choir here. I'm surprised I'm not hearing backlash on the news -- maybe that'll come later. Happy the IM folks are in the land of the sun!! PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Ha. I said I got a pic, not "the Florida pictures!" A picture of the official IMFL bike jersey, not even John, Linda or Tiana modeling! I want pics, too, John! After all, it's not right! ![]() ![]() |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() kkcbelle - 2012-11-02 7:07 AM I agree. Should postpone or cancel. The resources should go towards storm victims and getting the area back on its feet. PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ![]() Since they are going ahead with the race, I would like to see NYRR work more with its sponsors and the racers to help relief efforts. Maybe NYRR can go to its food and water vendors and ask for extra donations for food pantries. Or they should set something up so runners unaffiliated with a charity can instead collect money and run for storm victims. Or at the start have a donation area. |
