Yes David, We're meeting on the boardwalk behind the Boardwalk hotel each morning at 7:00 for a little swim.  As much or as little as you want.  Several of us have experienced this race and can help with sighting targets.   This is a really fun swim.  We usually go together.  Stopping to bob in the water and visit several times.  Some folks swim farther and others choose to swim out a little, across and back.

I'll be wearing a BT tri top.  Anyone you pick up is welcome to join us.

We often plan a lunch too.

It's a good place to find someone to ride a little with if you want. or to find someone to drive the bike course with.

Will you join us?

Regarding goals, I just want to finish without hurting myself (permanently)  I have not been able to run for almost 7 weeks with a foot stress fracture..  The doc says I can run by race day.  Now here's a good idea:  Make your first run after an 8 week  layoff a marathon.

I'll have a nice little swim. 1:10-1:15 or so

Bike should be lovely 6.5 hours ~ 17 mph average including stops

Run is totally an unknown.  I'll walk the first 10 miles or so then try running.  If it hurts and it hurts the walking I can DNF at the turn-around.  If I can run some then I'll run/walk the last 1/2 .  It will be interesting.   Say hi when you go by (assuming that you're not already in front)

Just FYI here are temperatures, low-high (average) for PCB from 2000 - 2007  -- Temperatures averaged over the 7 day period containing the race.

Even if it gets pretty warm in the late afternoon the temps start to cool as soon as the sun starts to drop.  And it's usually pretty cool in the morning.

Looks like this will be the last year for the mass start swim at IMFL. They've announced they're going to a rolling start in 2015.

I too am looking forward to meeting you vets and fellow first timers at the swim.

This IM taper has been my biggest challenge - I will save the details but here's the headline:

My 3 week journey before IMFL: Family wedding - severe muscle cramp recovery - of all things, dog bite on run - family funeral shock ...

I am on drive to PA for the last part of this. Not looking forward to next 72 hrs or so. Just reinforcing IM is not just overcoming the physical but life hurdles that bombard us.

Praying for some normalcy when I get back to SC Monday night and prep/pack Tues for drive to PB Wed.

I feel fit and confident but have some tough stuff to battle through before the excitement - that I want to feel - is there.

One week from today!   So all day I've been thinking> next week at this time I'll be, swimming, or at 50 miles on the bike or like right now, almost ready to get off the bike.  Today is an exciting day.  Just finished my last long swim 4500 yards.  I keep telling myself, I am ready for my race.  I hope I am.

Looking forward to meeting you-all there!

David, you're absolutely right,  Arriving at the start line ready to race is really the biggest hurdle.  good luck, and I hope that things work out ok for you in the next few days.

David,

Sorry u that you have to deal with a family funeral, I hope everything aligns positively by next week. When you cross that finish line, it will be that much sweeter for you!

Stay strong and see u next week,

Alicia

I was so excited about this race until Wednesday morning! I bent over to get my protein powder from the cupboard and my low back seized up. I have issues before but it's been awhile. Got a steroid pack from the Dr at work and seeing the chiro. I am starting to move better again. Rode 2 hours yesterday and should have been 3 but my back was starting to get angry so I didn't push it. Have a 8 mile run tonight if that goes well I will be excited again. Swim on Fri went fantastic though. We get in on Wed so we may swim Thursday or fri.

Looking forward to seeing everyone. My bib is 1527 and my friend Dotti is 1530.

Anyone who checks in today can you post a picture of the freebies? Last time the bag was good was in 2012. Heard the ones in Kona this year were nice.

BT swim again Thursday morning. 7:00 am on the boardwalk behind boardwalk beach hotel.

Had a great swim this morning. The manta rays were jumping out of the water and playing. I've never seen that before and it was pretty cool. Total swim distance today was about a 1/2 mile.
They were beginning to out up the corrals when we left to go walk through transition.

See you tomorrow. BT tri top or yellow IM shirt with BT logo.

Got in tonight (wed) -- plan on meeting you there. I'm going to walk down the beach from Long Beach resort, supposed to be only a few hundred yards, but need to orient myself, but I would think the IM HQ should be easy to find ... See you in the AM. I'll wear my B&W tri top and carry my wetsuit there.

Hi!

I guess I have missed you all as I have been swimming at 8, trying to get some sleep in. I saw the manta rays! They were awesome. I am hoping the ocean stays how it has been.....but the winds! Wow! Brings back memories of Cozumel...

Hope to see you! I think I can recognize you :-)

Last BT swim before the race. Friday at 7:00 same place.

Had a good swim today. Noticed either the wind or the current pushing us out, but coming back was not difficult. Pam saw the rays and fish in the water but I missed them.

We found both bouy lines today.

See you in the morning.
Having a hard time wrapping my mind around the forecast. 45 degrees and 20-30 mph head winds. How do I dress for that with the clothes I brought?

Go to Walmart and get a wind breaker if you don't have one.  My usual is tri top with bike shirt on top and arm warmers with throw away gloves.  You could get a cheep tech shirt on top to throw away too.  Coach says put news paper in your top to block the wind.  Long sleeves and wind breaker on the run!!

I can't seem to find anything in the Athlete Guide but I am guessing we don't get the special needs bags back. Anyone confirm?
