Artemis - 2010-01-08 11:08 AM Today is finally Friday!!  What are your plans this weekend?

I'm planning to bike tomorrow on the trainer and run 4 miles on Sunday.  I think I'm going to suck it up and run outside.  I'm also considering going to a hot yoga class, but we'll see.  I might save that for Monday on my "strength/stretching day."

Jen, I wish I could suck it up and run outside because the long runs on the treadmill are starting to wear, and it's only been a few weeks...but I was thinking of trying a Zumba class tonight.  I watched one briefly a couple weeks ago and it looked like they were having an awesome time.  Tomorrow I think I have a swim/bike/run, and wanted to incorporate my long run tomorrow because I have a 2 hour tri training swim class Sunday.  Otherwise, I plan on eating a lot as I'm going to a little get together tomorrow night!

Ok.. this may be a dumb questions, but what IS a Zumba class??

I did another roller ride this morning...it's sucking away my desire to bike...   I really wish this weather pattern would break!

My hats off to you Nicole!  I just watched a video on how to use rollers... (as a newbe... I had NO idea what they were) and OMG.... that looks HARD!!! WOW - not sure I could do that! It looks way harder than just riding outside.

Artemis - 2010-01-07 7:40 AM We're one week into the New Year!!  How is everyone doing?

Hey Jen,
Well, my week didn't go great - but it went as well as it could considering what was going on.  My dad had passed away on Dec 31st, so my goals weren't quite the priority - but I did what I could!   Too many family gatherings with too much food to help with the loose 1 pound goal!
I did try a little run today, but haven't got into the pool yet.  Sunday - FOR SURE!!  And the pool I like to swim at finally reopens this weekend, so I'll be able to get back to my Tues/Thur swims next week.  Yeah!!!

Oh Kathy, I am so sorry for your loss.

The Olympic Tourch is coming to my fair city tomorrow for the Tourch Relay this weekend so I'm hoping to get out to part of it at some point!!
Oh... and for working out... tomorrow is a 1.5 hour rip and ride session (45spin/45weights) and if the back is ok, maybe a little run on the treadmill.  And Sunday -- FINALLY I will get my butt back in the pool for the first session with the mulitsport club for a 1.5hour swim session.  (hopefully I don't sink -- it's been over a month since I've been in the pool! )

That's exciting!!  I can't wait for the Olympics.

Enjoy the workouts today!

I believe it's an exercise class with Latin music and a little bit of dancing.  I'm not sure if that's right or not though.

Nice job, Nicole!  I know the feeling.  I'm really dreading the trainer ride.  It's SO boring!  I can't wait until it's a little warmer and I can get back outside on my bike.

Thank you all for your kind words.  I come from a fairly large family and we were very fortunate that we were all together for the holidays and for each other.  We are blessed in oh so many ways.  My dad was so proud of what I accomplished in the past year, and I am so looking forward to dedicating my training in 2010 and my first real length tri to him.

It looks like several of us had some trying times over the holidays, and although there are some not so nice people out there, I am very happy to be part of an online community of great and supportive people!  Thanks BT and thanks Artemis’s Group!  There are good things in life!! Laughing

I'm glad that you were able to share triathlon with your dad. Back in late Fall of 2006 I told my parents I wanted to do triathlon and my dad's comment was "Are you crazy?!?" He died a few months later, before I had done my first triathlon. I have some mixed emotions when I tri.

It is a bit hard until you get the hang of it. I liken it to walking on ice, you have to be careful and deliberate.

Yeah, the trainer is not fun.  The only way to get thru it is to find something to watch; but you can't get too distracted cause then it's not really getting the workout you're looking for...This morning was a documentary on burlesque.  lol...the other video on vegan cooking was just horrible and I had to turn it off.

That's exactly what it is.  It was my first class, and there were all these women who knew the moves...it's like an aerobic night club party...it was fun, but some of these people were soooo into it...with their shirts and bags that had ZUMBA written all over them..."I love Zumba" It's crazy how there are different gym subcultures...Zumba, Meat heads, Spinners, Triathletes...lol...

It was fun though, I would definately recommend going atleast once for the experience.  It wasn't quite as much of a workout as I was expecting, but maybe that's because I wasn't flailing my arms enough.  Next time.

That sounds like one of those classes you need to take with a friend or a group of friends, but then with that it won't be a really tough workout.

We had our first tri training swim lesson and I made sure I went into the beginner lane...the instructor starting using me a the demonstrator (which makes it very hard to stay calm for someone with stage fright!).  After some drills we started to just swim freestyle and he said that he was going to move me over to the intermediate lane!  Laughing Makes me very proud that all my swimming has apparently paid off, but I told him I hoped I could stay with him for a few more weeks...

Hi,

Could anyone use some used bike shorts? I've got 2 pair of Pearl Izumi Quest shorts, size women's large. If you want them they are yours!

I ran outside today.  It was a lot chillier than I thought!  I definitely needed another layer.  Oh well, I made it through and I'm mostly thawed now.

Laughing .... oh... what different worlds we live in!!  Atho I TOTALLY agree... that 19F does sound cold to run in (you couldn't pay me).... that is warmer than our high of -10C was today..... and we were sooooo happy.... ALL the runners in Regina were outside for their runs today - after all, it was 20C warmer than it has been for the past month!

Yeah.... I need to move!

Turned out to be 18F, but there was little wind so it wasn't bad once I was moving. My record is a run at 15F

I know it's kinda like cheating, but I'm going to change my goals for the month...I think I increased my running too much/too soon and am paying for it.  The knee is starting to hurt, my shins are being tempermental as well as my feet...so although I'm still planning on following my running training plan as much as possible, I'm not going to push and I know I won't be able to make that half marathon distance in under two hours by the end of the month like I had wanted (maybe it was too lofty a goal!).

That being said, I'm going to concentrate more on my swimming, and still have that 4 lap goal.  I'm going to replace my running goal with an easier one of making sure to do atleast a couple sessions of strength training each week.

...and keep my Peaches on my calendar!...

I feel like I've been cheated all these years, I had no idea how great swimming laps would feel! Kind of reminds me of yoga, walking tall, feels like all the glue is getting knocked out of lazy bones and joints. I could do without the wet brick of a gym bag, but all things considered...

Mon - swim 41 laps (DONE)
Tue - video at home
Wed - swim 45 laps
Th - video at home
Fr - swim 45 laps
Sat - video at home

Spinning class schedule just came out, so unless it fills up, I'll adding a Wed/Fri spin class to the mix in a couple weeks - should get me through winter Wink
