I'm near the end of my running streak, I,ve run every day since late November, mostly barefoot or in minimalist shoes and all my run niggles have disappeared! Next month will be a swim/bike focus but I think I'll try to do a short run everyday as well, just won't worry about distance. Very nice solid month of running! |

A niggle is a little annoying pain which doesn't stop you running and doesn't get worse but hangs around. It often goes away after a warm up or maybe re-appears some time after a run. My running niggles are probably really injuries but I cope with them; for me its a tendency to ITB symptoms and patellofemoral symptoms. http://www.sydneyrunning.com.au/2/post/2011/09/when-does-a-niggle-become-an-injury.html |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well, I got out and ran today. It was beautiful. Sunshine and snow are a great combination. Hot chocolate with Bailey's counts as a recovery drink, right? Tomorrow is my birthday, so I'm going to do what I feel like, which may or may not include a morning swim. We'll see. My birthday is at a time of year that I can get away with a bit of laziness... |

Baxter-a run is a run. I think you have every right to be thrilled. Now you have something to build from. Deb--HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Maybe a new tradition is a .68m run before you dig into that cake and ice cream! Trev--I know you're out there somewhere! We hit Minocqua this afternoon. I wasn't surprised to find very little snow on the ground, but was totally shocked by the roads, they are ICY due to all the freezing and thawing we have had around here. It's a balmy 10F too. Means I will be doing my first TM long run of the season on a 15+ year old Cybex. As a pre-cursor to tomorrow, start thinking about your biggest accomplishments of '11. You'll be asked to spill your top three! |

Doug P.S. William I can't find the pen I brought for you. D'oh! I will look again. I cold have sworn I had it. It is not like it is a shoe or anything. (For new MG members I am notorious for forgeting my shoes or bringing two left ones!) |

Before anyone calls me out on the distance, it was a short run. Very short. You got out there and that is all that matters. My opinion is that its harder going from 0 miles to a 5K then it is going from a 5K to a 1/2 marathon race. You are in that hard stage right now. Great job and keep pushing through it. Walking is ok, cramping sucks, and I puke a couple times a year usually during a track workout. |

New Year's 5k for me on Sunday. 2011 Accomplishments?? - trained harder and more consistently than I have in 20 years. - Can you count completing a HIM when you were forced to cut the distance short? - Finding a house and making it a home to my family. I know this isn't a tri relatived accomplishment but this was a big weight on my shoulder at the begining of the year and much happier because of it. Plenty of misses... too many to list. Big ones; need to work on pulling myself out of the dark, need to work harder on nutrition, and need to be better about logging my workouts. I'm missing 4 weeks of workouts in my logs, maybe more. |
