Had my first sprint yesterday and was able to get my first PR of the year. Last year I finished it in 1:36:22 and this year I completed it in 1:10:58. I can now see that the hard work is paying off.

This has given me the motivation to keep pushing myself. Just wanted to share..

Wow, great improvement!!!

That's incredibly geeky...  But I keep meaning to do similar things.  I've been meaning to take it both when I walk the dog (wondering about both distance and HR), and also at work.  Today I was walking around for 4 hours in a fairly small area.  I always wonder how far that is.

Today was a runch. I did it as as fartlek. 5 miles total 39:23. 1st mile warm up then using electrical poles sprint pole to pole recover 3 poles for three miles. Average heart rate was 144 which is MAF +4, max HR was 165. I did good on sprints but recovery kept getting slower.

So, every other month since November we've been doing a challenge (Gabe won all three). I guess May will be "de rigueur", right?

The question is: do we do the last format or the first? Thoughts...

I preferred the last one that had a rest day built in.  But think it would be neat to try incorporate a notion of balance between the three disciplines to encourage the same in our training.

Hi Ernesto-Got room for one more?  Things have been crazy and have not been following much the last few weeks, did not realize a new group had been started.  Will post bio later.

Thanks,

William

i rode half the sprint course at the weekend and with the out/back form my house totaled 13 miles - sadly I managed it in 52mins; with 4min/mile average that equates to ~56 mins for the course - not happy with that but can only improve from there (and its the first race of the season!). Plan to ride the whole course this w/end.

I liked the last one as it encouraged all 3 disciplines. But i think it should be changed to be able to add 2 off the same workouts for the same day. If you run in the morning and again in the afternoon it should be 2 points. But I will join the challenge but I hope to be in recovery mode

I like the last format. I will just do two a days bike and run. I still won't get to swim until the end of May. I would like Lake Huron to hit 50F before I start swimming. Mitch mentioned this the other day, I don't know how you guys in the South train after May, I would melt. I soaked a shirt today on my run and it was 63 F and 30 mph winds. Gabe has that advantage again living in the land of enternal spring.

Short version:

Fri night 1 1/2 hrs sleep due to 20 people partying in the 4 rooms next to mine.  Cops finally kicked them out at 4:30 am after the manager had "talked" to them about 4 times.

Sat AM worked the sprint finish line of the duathlon since swim cancelled.  Didn't hydrate well.  Switched hotels.  Sat afternoon worked packet pickup.  Didn't eat well.

Sat night slept like a log :-)  Couldn't find my Garmin, so knew I'd be racing without it.

Sun AM swim cancelled. My best swim ever. 35-40 mph winds.  I did ok on the bike.  Left quad started cramping at 1.5 miles on the run and never stopped.  Bad run.  Ended up in med tent due to cramping.  Second in AG.

As I did one final sweep of the hotel, I looked in the closet where my suitcase had been sitting on the little suitcase rack.  In the farthest corner of the dark closet, I found my Garmin hiding.  Obviously it didn't want to race in the wind.

Can someone please remind me how to get to the race report??

Yeesh! Fell off the wagon this last week/week and a half, just haven't had (made) time to train due to work. Getting back to it starting tomorrow. In the mean time, I did the weigh in for this week, not too bad (I edited my weight for the last weigh in, as i rounded it down a bit originally).

Congrats on the result!

To Add a race report goto [settings]>[training log settings]>[race manager!] the select Edit next to the race.

This assumes you have already added the race to your calendar. If not select [races] from main menu, search for race, select it then press the [add to your planned race log] button.

Mark.

Looks like I've been MIA is what feels like forever.  Congratulations to everyone and their races and personal achievements!!!

I slacked the past week...weather has been tossing and turning so much, rain, heat, snow, more rain and more heat...crazy days!  I decided not to do the Oly I was training for...  There is a cut off after each section and I don't know if I'd even make the swim cut off given that is my weakest link.  I will start the masters program downtown when the kids are on summer break and really work on that.  I did register for the Boulder Sprint though.  It is in June so training for that will be easier given the unknown situation with our son.  Scott is helping me to not jump to conclusions yet.  I will take our son to the neurologist in Denver on Friday and hope for better news.  I posted on Facebook yesterdays news...

Samy- Glad you enjoyed Charleston!  Scott left there so many years ago he said he's lived away longer than there...For me that was home for 28 years (didn't move there till I was ten).

Today I hope to do hill intervals.  The trick is finding a spot to be able to recover!

I am new to this group so could someone please explain the challenge you are talking about? This sounds interesting and I would like to take the challenge with you.

On another note...I activated all the rich text settings and still can't get the weight chart edited. I know this should be easy, but still not getting it. Sorry and thank you in advance for the help.

As stolen from the last mentoring group:

May Challenge Rules:

"The winner is the one with the most workouts in a month, each workout at least 30' each.

A "week" is Sunday to Saturday. March has four weeks preceded by three days (Thursday March 1 through Saturday March 3). During each of the official four weeks, you can only count the workouts from 6 days. You can work out all seven if you want, but the workouts from only six days (your choice) go toward your total.

S/B/R is a workout. Supporting stuff (like weights) does not count.

You cannot break a workout in 30' blocks to get more in one day (example breaking a four hour ride into eight workouts). Not more than one session of each sport in a day, so the max for one day is three workouts, assuming you did a swim, a ride and a run each longer than 30'.

You get one point per session. Max points possible for the month will be 3 x 27 = 81. Tie breaker is overall training time."

Proposed reporting format:

Mitch - Swim X; Bike X; Run X; Total X; Minutes XX:XX:XX

Here's some numbers that amazed me:  The two days after the Disney Marathon this past January, we took the kids into the parks.  Magic Kingdom one day, Epcot the next.  I ran the Garmin the whole time in there, and we walked over 12 miles in Magic Kingdom and over 14 in Epcot.  The afternoon after the race, I took my oldest over to Universal Studios from noon until close, but didn't wear my watch.  Can't imagine what we put on there as well.

That challenge sounds fun.  Will get tricky with alot of us starting the race season, I know I have a sprint as well as a half marathon in there.

Hmmm, maybe I ought to drag out the swim and run of that sprint tri so I can get the credit for the workout for the day?
