You guys are animals.  I've been fighting off some dizzy spells and shakes this week.  Made today terrible.  I had an hour swim class with my coach and I was dizzy the whole time.  I was supposed to come home for a hour run and I just decided to scrap it and sleep for a few more hours.  I feel much better now and hope sunday's 100 minute run is good one.  It should be fun since it will be all trails.  I love the trails way more than the road.

Running in the snow is tough, but it beats the hell out of running on a tead mill.  Keep up the hard work all you wild and crazy folks.  Have a great finish to the weekend.

Three hours on the trainer tonight - TrainerRoad... ouch!  I know I'm getting in better quality workouts on the trainer, but please let Spring come early, I want to ride the course.

Yes, Spring needs to hurry up so we can get on the course!

Spring needs to hurry up quickly although I can't say that I would still be doing a lot of my rides outside just because I think I can get better rides on my trainer and follow my plan closer. But that being said riding the course can't be beat. Especially those hills where I want to get some practice on to determine my pacing up them.

So how is everyone's training coming along so far?

I had a 3 hour trainer ride on Saturday, 50 minute swim Sunday followed by 2 hour trainer ride on Sunday. I am dealing with some severe plantar fasciitus right now so I skipped my 1:55 run on Sunday to give it a rest.

A couple weeks with less tempo and shorter mileage on the long ride this weekend and then I start another BIG build.

I actually asked my coach for more miles this weekend on the bike and he said no enjoy this week as the following 6-8 will have LOTS of volume and tempo.

This might sound odd but does anyone count backcountry skiing as cross training?  I have been spending 10 hours or so a day on the weekends climbing mountains and sliding down them.  I do try once I get home to jump on the trainer or go for a run, but generally my legs are pretty shot when I get home.  Am I just screwed?  I can't stop skiing as the snow has been so good and deep.

Funny - was just looking at my schedule in TP and was noticing the same. Volume starts increasing a lot between now end Apr. I'll have to start getting creative on how to fit it all in (I have lots of PTO to kill so that's good)

I feel your PF pain..... I'm on the tail end and it's been a frustrating road. I'm able to get out now, but I was out of running completely from Sept - Dec. I Still feel it slightly in the morning but that's about it now, although I'm still not putting in the distance or speed that I was before.

Best of luck and speedy recovery.

Intervals are the only thing to keep me focused on the trainer.  That way I'm focusing on the little interval segment I'm on instead of "OMG, I have how many more hours left?!?!?"  I watch TV shows instead of movies.  Movies take a while to get to the point, TV shows are more compressed and you can watch more variety over a long ride.

My longest trainer ride was 4.5 hours.  But that's only because I was supposed to do 6 and it was snowing outside.  I may have cried a tiny bit when I saw the snow.

IM is a mental game - long trainer rides will help with that.

I would have done more than cried when I saw that snow, I would have wailed!  But you're right, the mental prep on the trainer certainly will help.

For whatever reason I just noticed that week 6 (next week for me) is when things really start ramping up..which means ramping up my wakeup time. See ya later 5am..hello 4am.

I lost monday and Tuesday due to illness or whateverit was, but I'm ready for a 80 minute bike ride tonight.  I'm in a recovery week so I'm not feeling terrible about missing the two days.

You guys who get to train on the course are lucky.  I feel here in southern Michigan it is going to be really tough for me to train for those hills out there.  Good luck everyone.  I'm watching Bernie tonight on the trainer.  Supposed to be good with Jack black and some other folks.  My bet is it will suck, but it is all the library had.

Ona  side not we pick up girl scout cookies tonight so there is a reward for my hard work.

I hear you on the benefits of being able to ride the actual route (I'm in Chicago..), it's going to hurt me psychologically as well though as I grew up in CDA and used to fly up those hills on my mountain bike. Flash forward 10-15 years and I'll be running on fumes I'm sure.

Beautiful Spring-like day here today, best of the year so far.  I went out to run for an hour at lunch and it was 48 degrees!

I wasn't prepared and didn't have running shorts in my gym bag, all I had was winter tights and a pair of tri-shorts.  Went with the tri-shorts - first run without gloves or layers since October... it was great!

I'm an early riser anyway so 4AM is kind of the norm. I may push it back 30 more minutes (3:30) but that as far as I'll go. It is kind of odd (but massively convenient) to have ~6hrs of cycling done before most people get to the office.

I know I'm jinxing this but as so far this winter doesn't seem as cold, or gray, as last several years. Might we see at least a not almost freezing swim for CDA? Anything at 65 or better I would consider outright balmy for PNW in that time of year.

Hah if you look at Ironman Website they say that the CDA lake is high 60's to low 70's on race day. Bulllllllllshat!

Just got back from a great 5 mile run, negative splits and even better, wore shorts for the first time outside!  It has to be close to 50 degrees out there right now!  Makes me think I could get the bike outside for a ride.

Yeah, I laughed when I read that too. I'm not sure I've swam in any lake here that was in the 70's even in Aug the last few years. 65-70 by June? I wish.

I was at the gym and i met a guy that was doing IM CDA too, he was telling me he had friends that were apart of the committee and told me that they are going to do grouped starts this year. I was wondering if anyone heard about this? Personally I dont believe it..

I know somebody that is going to the committee meeting on Tuesday, she's going to see if she can find out if that is true.  I personally would be disappointed if they switch to wave starts, even though the mass start is something I stress about, it's a trademark of IMCDA.

if they start in waves that would  be somewhat nice. I'd like to be in the back wave since then all I can really do is pass people all day long rather than be passed all day long.

Cool let us know! I would say a wave would be a win/lose situation. Either way I am still excited and nervous lol.

I sure hope not. I find this hard to believe. I don't know why any kind of committee would decide this unless it's the Race Director.
