I'm just staying home tonight

my youngest is having a couple of friends spend the night

a few people are coming over, we'll play cards or something - I have to confess that I bought a cheeseball - LOL

With all of the time I've had in the pool the past 5 days, I have some good swim talk material - I'll post some tips tomorrow  -

Oh wow! Congratulations! Yanti's right, you're totally a superstar. You had some crazy, monster swims this month.

My day at work isn't too bad. It started out sketchy -- I was assigned to stake out the SF Zoo (in case another tiger escaped? I don't know -- the editors, sometimes they don't make a lot of sense) -- but then I got called back into the newsroom and now I can play on the Internet, at least.

Yanti, I wanted to tell you that I think your relaxation techniques are starting to work. I've been feeling A LOT less nervous about my workouts lately, and practicing deep-breathing techniques several times a day. Today I'll focus my energies on sending healthy thoughts your way. *g*

I had another tri nightmare a couple nights ago. I dreamed that I showed up for my race and was all excited, setting up my transition area, and suddenly they were calling my swim wave and I realized I hadn't gotten any of my race numbers, so I scrambled to get them on my bike and stuff and I ended up missing my wave. So weird! I've noticed that every time I have a tri nightmare (there've only been a couple) it involves me being late and missing the race altogether. What is up with that?

A surprisingly common dream! Awhile back someone had a thread about race nightmares--I frequently have them the week before the race. I just think of it as getting the jitters and bad juju out and processed BEFORE the race.

Thanks for the reminder about the relaxation techniques, and I am sooo glad to hear it. I need to work on some biofeedback myself, for my shoulder. Oh, and get on that mental training post I keep meaning to deliver ...

Just make sure the mental training post isn't stressing you out, Yanti. Don't worry -- we're all patient, we can wait.

I saw that thread on nightmares a few months ago. I'll have to revisit it, though, because I can't remember what other people dreamed about. I just think it's so strange that I'm always dreaming about being late. Of all the things I can worry about in a tri, missing my race is the least of my concerns. Of course, I get panicky about being late (to movies, flights, doctor's appointments -- pretty much anything other than work, heh), so I guess it makes some sense.

I am the same way about being late.  That's why I married my husband, he's the same way.(Well, not the only reason)  Our friends think we are so weird for always being on time, in fact we are usually early!  Even with kids.  Go figure.  I have had many a tri nightmare about forgetting things, missing my wave, etc etc.  I guess it just goes with the territory--this sport takes up a lot of room in one's subconscious!!!!

Ok so I'm late!

Happy New Year!

Remind me to not visit family anymore, JK. I had an ok night playing games and watching the ball drop on TV. No drinking for me as I am still in recovery mode from being sick.

I JUMPED INTO THE LAKE!!! The water was 46 degrees.  Let me tell you, that last mile, where I knew the jump into the lake was coming, seemed like about ten miles! Once I got there, I took off my polarfleece shirt and my shoes, and went in.  It was fun! It may even be on the news tonight--there was an old dude next to me in a speedo so I might even be near someone they were looking to videotape for that sort of thing.  My 5k was probably around 26 min and with the swim my total was 28 min.  I will do a full rr after I take a shower.  I had a beer and now I am very sleepy.....

Happy New Year to you all!

Nice run that is FAST!! My best 5 K is 28:40. My gf was hoping for 35 today and I decided to take the stroller for the first time what a mistake. It was a VERY VERY HILLY TRAIL run hardest 5 K I have ever done and it was like 39 min. I am sure would have been faster without stroller but the boy had a blast. I am sure all his noises he was making actually meant faster daddy faster. He was laughing and screaching it was a blast

Yay!!! Congratulations to all three of you!

Laura: First race! And it sounds like you did really great, too. A 5k in 30:40 is nothing to feel bad about (especially if you had fun at the same time.

Leslie: Ha! I was thinking about you all morning. I can't believe your 5k time -- that is very impressive, especially if you were dragging your feet a little there at the end. *g* You are so brave to go for it and jump in that water. Go you!

Shawn: That's so cool that you pushed the boy along your 5k! Who cares about the time when you're having fun and showing the kid such a good time. I can't think of a better way to be an example and kick off the New Year with the family.

I want race reports from all of you!

Thanks guys!!  You all have made me feel much better about my time.  I signed up tonight for a local 5K on 2/2 that is much flatter.    Hopefully I'll get my sub-30 that day.

Leslie  That time is AWESOME!  I am so jealous!
