Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Mitch S 2 / B 12 / R 12 Rest 3 Total 26 19:34:23 Andy- Great report. Congrats again on a well executed race. Any Turkey Trotters this week? Going to make my own little 5k with my son just for fun on Thursday morning. He wants to run a few of the holiday 5k and 8k races coming up so this will kick off his training plan. He's also talking of trying his first 10k or possibly HM in April when I run my next marathon. Any thoughts from the group as to whether I should encourage this at his age? He's 13 and a pretty decent runner. (Ran a 7 min mile in a school test this fall with no training, and averages 8:30-9 in 5k races) Ernesto? |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Scott, kiddos are great runners, but not distance runners. Keep him training short and fast, the anaerobic component has to be a much higher percentage when training young athletes, and long(er) stuff kept to a minimum. |

The CC coach does it to support leukemia lymphoma. We will do a Christmas on in Bay City put on by BARC. All the kids except my daughter Sophia, she has to work Saturday making chocolates for the local candy store (great job for dieters, she now hates the smell of chocolate). Andy Great report! |

Going through withdrawal from that runner's high. Joe,I feel your pain, but don't try to run until there's zero chance for injury. Stay in the pool, swim three or four times a week and ride as much as you can. I know the weather may not be cooperating to put anything long, so the drainer and some sufferefest videos can make up for it. KEEP MOVING, but don't run. Edited by ernestov 2012-11-21 8:44 AM |

I'm still bummed I'm not running the Turkey Trot in Detroit this weekend. I've ran it the last few years, but staying true to my pledge to myself that I wouldn't do any additional races this year and just run easy to let the leg fully heal. Scott- running the Martian full again? I'll be doing the half again. Jim - you should trek down and join us! |

I had a nagging cold for what felt like 3 weeks or so. Still dealing with the stomach issues but able to work out. I know being any bit under the weather is not fun. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Little 30' runch, another beautiful day in Dallas, TX. Starting to pick up some steam, good signs of recovery. December will be a month of run focus for me. Should be back 100% by then. Mitch S 2 / B 12 / R 12 Rest 3 Total 26 19:34:23 |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 6 mile runch 54:06. Perfect day for a run mid 40's and sunshine. Mitch S 2 / B 12 / R 12 Rest 3 Total 26 19:34:23 Mitch- I am tempted to do the Martian, especially since I have not seen anything to indicate that they are going to do the Qualifier again this year. Location wise that is a good one for me since my parents live 15 minutes away. It just depends on the kids soccer schedule.

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Extending everyone best wishes for an enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday (including those of you who may not be stateside). Spent the entire day cooking for 30 people tomorrow who will invade my home tomorrow with reckless abandon. After many years I have it down to science. The bonus this year is that we now have a brand new functioning kitchen that is a major uprgrade from last year -- the asking price for my 2014 IM dreams. So many things to be thankful in my life, including the pursuit of endurance sports. It feels at times like a self absorbed pursuit, but I know it to be so much more. I am struck by how many of us file race reports, eclipse PRs and give praise to the folks on this board for their support. It is quite remarkable. I want to be the first to raise a glass and toast Ernesto for his spirit, optimism and enduring commitment to improvement. Cheers all! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Slow 12k run this morning. 1:07. Funny thing happened on the way to the run: I sneezed and put my lower back out of whack (!). It was a painful run hurting every time I landed. I shouldn't have done it. Stupid is as stupid does. Mitch S 2 / B 12 / R 12 Rest 3 Total 26 19:34:23 Matthew, how is your running in this heat? For me early morning is the only time to do it. Ernesto and everyone - happy Thanksgiving to you guys (and girls of course)! I happen to work for an organisation that looks after older people, war veterans, disabled people etc. Folks who can hardly walk or do anything else with their bodies. That puts our efforts into a different perspective for me. I feel grateful to be able to take part in endurance events and be generally healthy and have a healthy family. One day we will lose it, no doubt. If nothing else, age is a very cruel thing... but there will be less regrets if we at least tried to follow our dreams. Edited by markz 2012-11-22 1:06 AM |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Mark- it's been a struggle. Today I had a brick session. I was on the bike at 6am and it must have been high 20's all ready. Last few days have been a battle. Try to stay hydrated and also energy is hard. I normally like the heat but for some reason it's not going as well at the moment. Is it normal for your HR to be 3-4 high in the heat? |
