Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Rest day for me today. Normally I would go for a swim, but my lower back is, as they say here, 'rooted' and swimming doesn't help. It actually feels like a kidney infection, but I hope I'm wrong and it's just a disc issue. On Wednesday we'll be going on holidays to the Sunshine Coast (200 k North from here) and I'm planning on doing NOTHING in the workout department for about a week, just play with the family. Of course I 'll be watching you in your endeavours. |

Ha ha good one Matthew. I'm old alright, thanks. I will go to the see a quack when we come back from holidays, the resting will be good. I think the rest of the group doesn't know what 'schoolies' are: high school leavers celebrating their rite of passage into adulthood getting hammered to death, going to night clubs and brawling on streets like there's no tomorrow. Happening as we speak on our streets here. 2 dead already, one girl fell off the balcony, a guy got hit by a car, tens of others arrested... I'm afraid to ride the bike through Surfers Paradise. Sad indeed. Well, take care of your kidneys Matthew, you need them in this heat, drink (water) responsibly.

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 30 minutes on the deadmill Scott- just guessing, but it could be achilles tendonitis. Welcome to the club! Stretch 2-3 times a day, watch the shoes you wear, the introduction of MAF has helped me temendously. My brother and Joe wear the elfin magic socks at night (not the real name), that keep the tendon stretched. Mitch S 2 / B 15 / R 15 Rest 5 Total 32 24:09:06 Edited by JBacarella 2012-11-26 1:12 PM |

My brother and Joe wear the elfin magic socks at night (not the real name), that keep the tendon stretched. I wondered about this at first, but if that was the case, wouldn't the area feel tight? It seems to feel no different whether it's stretched or relaxed. I've had tight Achilles before and this feels different. I know I'm fishing, just wondered if I should ignore it or seek medical advice before another long run this week. |

Sunday morning when I got up it, they were tight. Today it is only the left the right is fine and the pain has subsided. I was good to run at lunch. During the day, and after stretched I am usually fine, unless I sit without stretching. In the morning when I first get up, I am hobled until I stretch it. If I stay under my MAF, I never have a problem, even on longer runs, but I'm not that kind of doctor Edited by JBacarella 2012-11-26 3:21 PM |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Been detached for a while, spent a few days in Florida with the kiddos from my first marriage, good times an next to zero training. Only two runs that I haven't even uploaded to garmin connect. Now starting my running focus program with the goal of completing Houston in a decent time, although I'm not going to put a full training program I will try for a good race. I'll do one maintenance swim a week, one or two rides and the rest all running.Gabe, I saw on Facebook something about Ironman Cozumel, did you pull the trigger? |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() One week post-IM and I'm ready to start thinking about goals for next season finally. I think I'm going to take this next season to work on getting faster/stronger on the bike and run, and use shorter distance (Olympic and HIM) races to gauge my progress. I would like to do another full Ironman, but I think I'll wait until the 2014 season to do that, then I can realistically look at a goal of shaving about 45 minutes off my time from this year. I think, given a full year of solid run and bike training, that I could take 30 minutes off my IM run and maybe 15 minutes off my bike time. Part of my gains in the run would simply come from increased bike fitness. I also want to re-start a strength training regimen, mostly hitting core strength and a little extra for my legs. I think developing a strong core is a key to better swim/bike/run times and less chance of injury during the season. I'd like to set a half marathon goal of 1:45 and a full marathon goal of 4:00. I think I could also realistically get my HIM time well under 5:45, if not closer to the 5:30 mark. My current best HIM is 5:56, including a dreadful 2:29 run. So there it is! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Climbinggonzo - 2012-11-27 9:05 AM Good goals Andy, pretty much the same that I did after Ironman Arizona myself (took a year and a half off from the distance and focused on getting faster). One week post-IM and I'm ready to start thinking about goals for next season finally. Beware of the Ironman blues, don't take it too seriously nor force yourself to go out there until you really feel like you should. You got nothing to prove at this point, you already did that November 18th. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ok, my lazy a$$ is back in motion after Ironman, vacation from training is officially over and run training is beginning (actually begun today). Tomorrow if I make it I will race CX in Irving. During my stay in Florida I realized why Floridian pros are not great, the place is flatter than my desk! It is hard to challenge yourself in a place that doesn't offer too many natural challenges (except for some ocasional wind). Intervals come in handy in those cases. Haven't done much, just a couple of runs that were more scenic than challenging. With a little digestive malfunction on my Sunday morning run that ended up in a game of hide and seek between bushes in Orlando, one of those things that we runners experience... Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() sirgab - 2012-11-27 7:28 PM It's actually easier than you think. Train less than you did last time, focus on speed NOW and build a few long runs and rides as races approach. If you make every workout have a purpose and you execute that workout to perfection you will get fit and fast, without killing family time.Today a 7 mile runch. So nice to be taking it easy and scoring some good brownie points at home as I will need 100% family support for my 2013 race program. Ernesto, we need an intensive training program on how you master this skill I'm only out of the house two evenings a week and mornings on weekends, but on Sunday I am back early enough to see them wake up. |
