Racing this weekend? plotting your '13 calendar? or both?

If you're not racing, what's your favorite Thanksgiving recipe? tradition?

I'm working all weekend....had today off with the kids though. Just wondering, if you eat turkey and stuffing etc for Thanksgiving what do you eat for Christmas? Do you just eat the same meal again?

my mom used to make chicken cutlets.  now jarrett makes them, almost as good.  this year i might throw a turkey breast on the smoker to.

You have a smoker and a deep fryer?  Is the smoker a green egg?  We were thinking of getting one of those.

we've got a charcoal grill, gas grill, smoker, 2 turkey fryers, crawfish pot, catfish pot (that we don't fry catfish in).

no green egg thought i hear they do a great job.  ours is brinkman, a real one not one of the flimsy ones you get a walmart or something.  thick steel weighs a couple hundred pounds.

Ok, so I just bought a trainer.  Where do I go from here to get everything set up?  One of the sites I am looking at is Trainer Road, but I'm not sure I completely understand everything I need to get it set up.  It looks like I need a Garmin ANT+ stick ($30) and a Garmin GSC Ten Speed Cadence Bike Sensor ($35), plus a laptop.  Is that everything?  And does it matter that I don't have 300 or 900 series Garmin watch?  Or is there a better setup I can get for about the same money?

Which trainer did you get? How is it you "need" a computer? Did you buy a computrainer? I would say you don't need all this stuff unless you will use it long term(once you hit the dry roads). Otherwise buy a cheap bike computer to monitor speed, distance, and cadence...

I bought a KK Fluid Road Machine.  Honestly, I don't know what I need.  I'm just reading from a lot of sites and trying to piece everything together.  But if a bike computer will suffice, that's what I'm going with.  Thanks for the response.

shoot me your address.  i'll stick my gsc-10 in the mail.  i think i have an extra stick.  and i think i have an extra bike computer.

Oh, my gosh, I am getting so hungry reading about everyone's Christmas and Thanksgiving traditional meals!!!  We are huge smoked turkey fans, my dad used to smoke the turkey in the Kamado (the original green egg!) smoker, YUM!  This year, my bro will brine and roast it and I am responsible for the Chinese sticky rice (with lop cheung---delicious!!!) and other sides like yams, salad, roasted butternut squash...wow, lots of shopping to do this weekend!

Suzy, the green egg is amazing.  My parents got the Kamado from family friends all the way from Japan as a gift about 40 years ago and that thing is amazing.  My dad says the heat is so even and it never gets too hot once you get the temp just right with the charcoals.

Congrats on the refund check, Linda!

Congrats on your trainer purchase, David!

I think somebody has too much time on their hands (pun intended).

I did a 10 mile trail run today that nearly killed me.  It was a single track mtb trail and I was trying to keep up with a friend.  My HR was in zone 3,4,5 almost the entire time.  I am thrashed, and our average was only 13ish mi/min.  pitiful

I don't ever want to run again

Time to reframe your thoughts  This run was one of the hardest you've done and it NEARLY killed you.  How is that bad?  You survived a really tough run.  Yeah, it may not have been the pace you wanted it to be, so go do it again and again until it is.    Most of us don't even do trail runs because they're so damn hard.

Thanks Suzy and David.  I know it's all part of the process and the dividends will come later.  Going to get a good night's sleep and get at it again tomorrow.  It's a recovery run in the morning and a swim clinic in the afternoon.  Laughing

Jayne, you did a really hard run and you survived, this means with the correct recovery this week you'll be much stronger. That's what trainings all about! I love that feeling of being completely thrashed, it gives me an excuse to pig out on food and look forward to getting better.

I did my first pain-free run since the marathon this evening!!! It was a very conservative easy run but I didn't have any ankle symptoms. Hopefully I'm on the road to recovery. I'd LOVE to able to run a 10mile trail run right now!

Anyone tracking friends at IMAZ?  Anyone planning to sign up?

I've got 5 local friends down there, but it doesn't look like there is live coverage until later this afternoon.

My coach swam a 1:10, which seems very slow for her. But she was 5th on her divison and 79th women. So i'm thinking it's a slow swim there??

one other girl from our group swam 1:22.

Biking along they go!

Jayne you did awesome, I would give anything to do a 3 mile run right now, never mind almost 10. You pushed it hard and pushed your body, that will pay off, you didn't get injured and you you had a nice long run. All good positive things ...great job.

PS... and yes I do have too much time on my hands.....what to do? Going crazy.....injuries suck !

YES!!!   Two really great people that we've been friends since pre-tri!!  Terry did his first IM in 11:37 - woot!!!   Johanne, my friend that delivered my bike to LA, along with her trainer, last year so that I could finish up my IMAZ training, is doing her first, and currently is at mile 16 of the run.  WOOT!!!   We've been friends for SO MANY years, and she just started this stuff 2 years ago.

Congrats to everyone finishing up IMAZ today.

I seem to have had a relapse after feeling better yesterday, and now this crud has moved down into my chest.  I'll be headed to the doctor in the morning.  Since Thursday, I have watched some great football, every BBT episode I can find, some Duck Dynasty, a couple of bad infomercials and some even worse movies.  I have also read the entire IMFL threads from 2012 and 2011; noting they contain a lot of the same info and a lot of repetitive questions.  I figured this would be a good idea until this afternoon when I woke up sweating (again) after dreaming I made a wrong turn on the bike and wandered down some lonely highway in the Florida panhandle.  This dream ended with me trying to find my way back to the course (all the roads looked the same) while being chased by wolves (hanging head, I admit I watched part of one of the Twilight movies).  I'm going back to fb and infomercials.

On a training note, I have done nothing since my HM last weekend, and this week isn't looking good either.  And I am leaving Saturday for a week in Germany (assuming I get better over the next few days).  I guess this month will be my off season.

A short break in your triathlon programming for a Cyclocross update.

It was a good Cross weekend for me, took 22nd and 19th against a very strong national 45+ 1/2/3/4 field.  Here is a link to the write ups on the elite races and race venue from Cyclocross Magazine for the 3 days of racing at Jingle Cross.  I only raced Sat & Sun  Trust me when I say that the pictures do not do Mr. Krumpit justice!!

Any Crossers out there .....  this race weekend is worth the trip, get it on your calendar for next year!

Hello MG! As you may recall this has been a rough year for me at least in part due to the elimination of my department at work. I was worried once I turned down the offer from my company to permantly relocate to Germany.

However, as of today I will be the Director of Patent and Trademark Prosecution for Lenovo! I will most likely start December 10! I did not realize how heavy the burden had gotten until it was gone. Can't wait to celebrate with my family tonight and this is going to be a great Thanksgiving.

What a relief for you, Doug! Congratulations!!! It will be a fabulous Thanksgiving for you! We all had confidence you'd land on your feet, but I know making it a reality feels awesome. Yay!
