enders_shadow - 2008-03-17 6:41 AM Hey, Skinnies! I finished my first 1/2 marathon yesterday and it went great!!! I'm afraid to weigh myself on Wednesday, though - between retaining water in all my muscles (which will hopefully go away) and rewarding my efforts with a trip to Wendy's (plus ice cream), I'm not sure how the scale is going to be. Ah well! Have a great Monday!

Congratulations, Kristen! Great job on your first Half!

I gained about 4 lbs within a few days of my first half, but a couple days after that I was back down again. From what I've heard since it's pretty common to gain a few after a race, so try not to worry too much about it. Sounds like you already figured that out though

Ok, so I had a bowl of rice and wheat flakes, with a sliced banana and skim milk....

It actually kept me quite full through the entire morning all the way up to running time...so whats my grade :-) ha ha!

Enders--
good job on the 1/2 mary, though, next time don't wimp out early--> and do the whole thing.

On the wishlist for next year!

I know, my wishlist has me down for at least an extended run as soon as the weather breaks. I'm getting into the throws of cabin fever, a little testy too. I really wish I had the courage to do a 1/2 mary, or even a 10k for that matter.

saling4 - 2008-03-17 4:57 PM Skinny jeans on a guy........ewwwwwwwwwwwww!!

O.k. You guys missed the whole point of losing weight, toning up, and then having to go to a smaller size. Now you're just making fun. I thought I was doing well... I guess my azz is still fat. :0

Awww, you know we love you Josh.

As far as skinny jeans - that's cool guy or girl.  You'll be in that next size down in no time.

Although I did actually buy some jeans, the idea of "skinny jeans" is more of a matter of principle. I know you guys are just messin' with me, hey if we can't make fun of each other then making fun of anybody else is just suicide. Besides I'm a runner, not a fighter!

Alright, I thought I heard someone call for random accountability....

So here it goes,

breakfast ( around 3 pm):

1/4 cup of special K "protein plus"
1/2 cup of 2% milk

Snack (1 1/2 hr later):

4 hard boiled eggs, yes I ate the yolks too! But I used Mediteranean Sea Salt!?!?!?!?!
20 oz of water

Dinner :

1 hot pocket ( the lean kind) 'pepperoni pizza'
33 oz. water

snack:

hand full of almonds and 20 oz of water

2nd snack:

Will probably have an orange and another handful of almonds, with, you guessed it more water.

I didn't disapprove exactly, just saying that for me, your original breakfast would give me serious run issues.

It looks fine, but the true test is what happens when you run with that in your stomach.

Looks "milder" than the original though - so guessing it should be fine, but you never know.

what kind of rice??? white, brown, steamed, wild? And your wheat flakes, how much sugar is in them??? For your run, i would say "I" approve. But usually, if it doesn't move quick enough, I would probably eat it, now adays. Some people would say that carbo loading is good for those long runs, but I've heard that these people usually do it either before an extreme workout/training, or a couple of hrs before a race. You'll have to get theories from the other skinnies, but I would try to incorporate a little more protein, than that gained alone from skim milk. In order to help repair damaged muscle tissue, esp. from long runs, a good protein source should be taken in within 2 hrs of the workout/training. Increased protein will also help in keeping satiety longer resulting in less food taken in but only for the deficit of around 500-700 cal/day that most people have.

Okay lets see, the box says crunchy whole grain wheat and brown rice flakes cereal, its a cold cereal...total of 23 grams of carbs, 5 grams of sugars. My breakfast gives me a total of 11 grams of protein. I will report on how it works with my run tomorrow..hopefully a lot better than the muffin and egg.

I definitely get my protein in with my lunch, afternoon snack and dinner. According to my tracker, by the end of the day I will have had 75 grams of protein, which according to the book I am reading is the right amount of protein for my current training cycle.

I LOVE this book, it breaks down your nutritional requirements to daily required carbs, protein and fat based on your weight AND current training cycle (base, build, race, transition). Thats as far as I have gotten in the book. I think it also talks about how to customize this if you are trying to lose weight, and it will then talk about timing WHEN you eat, and then have sports specific information...but not there yet...I am just through the basics.

But so far, I give this book a thumbs up!

Random Accountability:

Still on my da** diet plan, but not enjoying it at all today feeling tired, hungry and headachy.

Having Chicken/lettuce/tomatoes/mushrooms for dinner (kind of a caesar salad)

and I had a handful of almonds which were really, really, good but were NOT on the plan. Don't think they'll hurt me and I had to eat something.

All I can say is the scale BETTER be nice to me tomorrow, or we will have words.

Oh...... I thought you meant that you had a bowl of rice, a bowl of wheat flakes as if they were two seperate items. I didn't realize you meant that the cereal had rice and wheat in it together. Now I see. I like the special K protein plus cereal it's got about 100 cal (pre milk) but 10 gms of protein, 9 gms of carbs, and only 2 gms of sugar. But if you add the 1/2 cup of non fat milk it's raised by 40 cal., addtl 65 mg of Na, and 6gms TOTAL of carbs, an addtl. 4 gms protein. But like Cadreamer mentioned if it works for you, and the upset stuff, then by all means.

I'm brand new to BT and to this forum and was told to jump right in, so here goes (holds breath, jumps):

I've been at 230 for the last five years and I want to get back down to 180 through BT training plans and proper nutrition. For starters, my goal is to get to 225 by the end of the month.

If anyone has any advice, input or bad jokes they would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks much,
Kevin

Welcome, have you had a chance to look at some of the training programs offered on the site? You might want to sneak a peek and adj. your workout if/and where you can... For max. results in your quest for weightloss through tri'ing. These people (who run the site, and on this thread) know what they're talking about when it comes to tri'd and true methods for becoming a more effective triathlete. Ask any thing you like, we'll help if we can. particularly on weds. we post weekly weigh-ins, where Saling our trusted, and somewhat "gunshy" (only if you're canadian w/ a glock) leader, provides encouragement, and something for the rest of us to make fun of when the time is appropriate. As do we all, it seems one of the requirements is to be able to set aside depression and get to work. Let us know where we can help!

Josh,

Thanks for the welcome. I'm on the "couch potato to sprint" training plan and I'm enjoying geting back into the exercise routine. Although I've only lost 1 lb. in eight days, my clothes are definitely looser, which is great. I can definitely see how this can become a way of life!

Well if I could give any advice, it would be.... be honest with yourself. You will trip up here and there ( from time to time) I still do. You will have times where weightloss seems stagnant. But I like many others get right back into the thick of it and tri, tri, again. Follow the plan, with respect to training, then as far as nutrition feel free to ask anything... Currently, we have a wine connoiseur (enders), a veggie avoider at all costs (Saling), and the human garbage disposal--who'll eat almost anything (no names mentioned). Good luck!
