Champion 5117 Brandon, MS | Subject: RE: Team Olympic Onions Rings The Starfish - 2008-04-11 7:27 AM Oooohhh, breakfast? Bagels, cream cheese, smoked salmon, and capers sound much better than my plain yogurt with granola. I will probably have oatmeal for my mid morning snack…doesn’t make it any better. So today I have a 1800 yd swim and an 8 mile run. Hope to get it done this afternoon after work (off early on Friday’s) then plan to chill out, which will probably entail cleaning the house. Saturday is a 30 (?) mile ride and Sunday is the first race of the season. Must go to work now...urgh. I'm jealous. May 31st seems so far away. |

Regular 64 Killeen, TX | Subject: RE: Team Olympic Onions Rings sesh - 2008-04-09 12:30 PM Heh... my first HIM isn't for another 360 days 18 hours 30 minutes, and I'm already nervous. Is this a "peak" month for your training? Whenever my plan ramps up a bit, I always get a little overwhelmed, too. I have to remind myself that the race isn't the test. The race is the reward. It's the training that is hard. It's the training that tests you. The exams so to speak. Race day is graduation, when you finally get to reap the benefits of all the hard work you did. Afterall, there isn't much on race day you can do about your time, but there is something you can do today about your time. Suffer today to you can smile for the camera on race day. Sesh, Thanks for the wisdom. Yes, this is the ‘peak’ month. I have been tossing your words around for the past few days and I have to say, they have really helped keep me on track. Put things into perspective. I might paraphrase and include on my signature—with credit to you of course. It is so true that the test is not the race. Absolutely, the test is the training. The every day, twice a day, do nothing else but push your body training (and go to work to make money to support this expensive habit). So I made the decision to test myself every day to be prepared for the big day…so that maybe I will have an ounce of energy left to squeeze out a smile…and act like a kid at Disney World the next day! As for your first HIM…not keeping a countdown calendar are you? |

I promise I have no idea how much longer it is until April 5th, 2009 at 7:00 AM. Nor did I check the water temp this April the 5th, just to get an idea. so that maybe I will have an ounce of energy left to squeeze out a smile…and act like a kid at Disney World the next day! I've heard you pretty much can't help but smiling. The thing I'm looking forward to the most will be that last mile and all the people cheering at the finish. It always makes the pain go away and gives ya a boost. Do kids sleep 12 hours straight at Disney World? I have a feeling somebody will have to do some serious kicking to get me out of bed after 70.3 miles. But... if you do get out there, you'll get to brag over and over about what you did when people ask why you're walking down the stairs backwards. |
