Pre-race routine:

Just woke up, drove to the park, had a cup of gatorade, and was ready to go. The night before I ate a bunch of pasta and drank a bunch of Endurox.
Event warmup:

None. The first 10 miles were my warmup.

Comments:

The drink/feed stations were excellent as always. We stopped three times and I grabbed everything from rice krispy treats to bananas. The weather was absolutely perfect. Maybe a little more chilly than I like it at the start, but it got up to 70 degrees, and I didn't see a cloud. 14 miles of chip seal sorta stunk, but the rest of the course was SMOOTH.

I forgot my computer. Oh well, I apparently pulled pretty good, even dropped some of the pace line (which I didn't mean to do), but we regrouped. For a while anyway. By the end of the day, three really good triathletes had dropped all of us, but me and two others finished in the second bunch of our splintered pace line.

I'd never been on a bike that long before. It was really, really fun.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. This wasn't a race, just a big organized group ride, so I really just wanted to finish it since it was my first century. My legs were getting tired, obviously, but absolutely no problems with nutrition or anything.
Post race
Warm down:

Not much. I am running a 5k later and don't really know how to deal with a four hour time space in between events.

Event comments:

This is always a fun event. The volunteers are great, from the sherriff's deputies to the high schoolers at the feed stations. There was the option of going 25, 50, 62, or 100. I guess since it's out and back you could have done whatever distance you wanted. It's always extremely well organized and draws cyclist from all over Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama.

I forgot to grab my computer on the way out this morning. That made things interesting. We did the first 50 in two and a half hours, so were a little slower on the way in, but not by much. I got a few good pulls in, too, which really spiked the heart rate, especially on the way home into the teeth of the wind.

Course: Out and back on the Natchez Trace Parkway. 28 miles at the farthest point is chip seal, but the rest is the smoothest asphalt around.

Great ride! Sounds like you had fun. Now you can mark a century off your list. I wonder if this will go down as your most memorable brick workout?
