BigEasy6 - 2009-11-21 2:43 PM 12.54 more hills than I thought it was going to have run - my wife got a side ache at about mile 3 or 4 and that slowed us down a bit, but still always fun to run with my wife

Great job everyone! Our sheet looks awesome and it looks like we will all hit our goals.

Sounds like you had a great day!

GoGoGo - 2009-11-21 11:28 AM 60 minute spin class for me today. Dod not run, trying to save a bit for long run tomorrow.Hopefully 20k. Due for a dropback wek soon. If tomorrow is difficult, will do then, otherwise 20k it is.Besides my legs being a little stiff, spin class was good this morning. felt like I performed well.

Have a great long run, hope the legs are good for ya!

juniperjen - 2009-11-21 10:15 AM Good morning team! Hope everyone is having a lovely saturday! Safe travels to baowolf and his family!

I am getting my chores done and then i'll hop on the bike trainer for today's workout!

Seems everyone is doing well and the challenge is helping people stick to their goals! Great work!

I had the same Saturday plan as you, unfortunately the chores, then the couch got the best of me, so no trainer! Surprised

Well....  On a positive note, I accomplished my goal for Saturday's off-raod triathlon (800yds, 15m, 4m).  I wanted to beat the 2 hour mark and finished in 1:53:40.  Finished 6 th overall and 2 nd in age.  If interested, I enetered splits and transition times on my log.

The race did point out areas of needed improvement.  I think I swam a 1,000 plus yards in a zig-zag fashion.  Then, I come into T1 and rip off the timing chip on my ankle when removing my wetsuit.  The bike protion, my strongest event, went really well and I made up alot of time even though the route was more challenging than anticipated.  T2 was rather uneventful other than having to tie laces.  The run was satisfactory with some mild back pain.  Run coarse was very difficult with sandy terrain with steep inclines, rapid descents, and single track.

Lessons learned:  more OWS practice, transition rehearsal as part of training, and more brick days, lots more.

Overall, it was a good day.  We were blessed with beautiful weather and no injuries occurred to my knowledge.  Every race is a learning experience!

Oh well, sometimes you need that as much as much as the trainer time!

I did get on - we were watching "UP" while I was spinning. Laughed, cried and sweated my butt off!!

Way to go!! So you're just going to add to your goal - keep going over 100%? woo!

I did something similar whacking a couple of toes back at the beginning of October. I was surprised how badly I hurt myself!! I wasn't so lucky as you not to have running pain. It took 3 weeks to feel normal!!

Hey team - today was very productive for me. Got a nice nearly 15k run in. the weather was fantastic!! I think that's going to be done soon though. There's snow in the forecast for next week (we've been lucky so far).  And then I went and did some strength.

As far as the challenge is concerned I am completely on track. I may go over on the run and bike goals and have to figure out a make up swim in the next week!

Just a week to go!!

Good job on the race Brick! Glad you were able to discover a few things as well.

6 miles today after 12.54 yesterday...haven't done that in awhile, but I like the feeling...30 minutes of strength - core/legs

New Orleans looks unstoppable this year. Minnesota v NO would be an interesting match-up in the playoffs.

Sigh, not a great race.  Lowsy race management long day.  This is the first race I have ever been to where the trail was not marked well enough to follow the course.  Everyone I talked to missed at least one turn.  We had a side competition after the race to see who ran the most extra miles while trying to find the correct course.  I ended up with 19.6 miles for an 18.6 which put me at a slight disadvantage to the locals.  The entire trail was single track, like 6 inches of dirt, with another 6 inches of sloped drit and then cacti, sage brush, cliffs etc.  So after my 1 mile detour I was trying to make up some time by repassing folks, not easy to do.  And well I bit it catching a shoelace on the sage brush and going down about 3 miles into the race or so.  We shall see whether I just got some scrapes or whether I have some additionial stiffness tomorrow.

Aside from almost no trail markers, on a 30k trail run they had 2 aid stations.  This did not really seam sufficient.  I didn't think this was a big deal, but I am sure that the elevation gains are very far off and well the temp got much warmer than forcast.  Anyway kind of disappointing, they never did post anyone's times for the 30k even though I hung out for about 1 hour.  I haven't checked the garmin or whatever, so I will get a RR up once they get around to posting results.  Definately a harder course than last months race.

But that completes my run goal for the month too tired to type more atm after driving 13 hours yesterday and then getting up at 5am to get to the race this am.

Yikes! What a tough day. But, you finished and you did a good job with a positive attitude. Finishing a difficult race under harsh conditions is, to me anyway, more worth it than than finishing the perfect race.

Rest up! You deserve it!

Think I am going to switch it up today and do my swim first. Seem to be lacking on that front and want to make sure I finish this challenge, I can do the run after taking the dog to the vet at 8:00 am.

Also sometimes I get really locked into a pattern of working out that can work against me. So it's good fro me to change it up and keep it interesting. I don't usually do later runs but today I can, I think the sun might come out a bit later anyway, and I could use a bit of that.

Morning team!

We're one week from finishing the challenge and we're in first place!! How great is that!!!

I am still well on top of things - got in a spin on the trainer this morning. A swim will follow later tonight. I've determined that it's best to do my shorter workout in the morning ... realistically I can only get 30-45minute workouts in morning without being way later than I like into work. So that's the plan for the week.

Wow, that sounds like a trying day. But you know, you got to show your stuff out there ... overcoming the missing trail markers and still passing locals. Managing in warmer temps. I find races often throw these curveballs and you just gotta deal. You proved yourself for sure! Way to go!

How did the family like the time away?

Great job team!  I unfortunately have not been doing my part to keep up.  I fear I was a little too optimistic when setting my goals.  Important family events the last 2 weekends.  I'm hoping to have a nice relaxing Thanksgiving weekend where I can get out early enough in the morning before the family gets up.

Wish me luck!

Sounds like an unexpected challenge.   What a great attitude about the day, though...a side competition to see who did the most extra miles!

Hope the injuries aren't too bad today.  Great race attitude!
