I went out for the run anyways.  90 minutes of struggling through heavy showers.  Called it quits at a little over 11 miles after I had been sloshing in my shoes for a few miles.  It was pretty much miserable!  When I got home, I couldn't bring myself to take an ice bath.  Opted for a hot shower instead.

Way to go. Light rain is the way to go, but heavy stuff is almost as demoralizing as wind. Nice job getting it done.

Way to tough it out. I like running in a light rain, but heavy showers gets old real fast.

I agree, I think you did enough HTFU! I like the rain but when it's pouring it's hard to do those longer runs. Good job.

So true, when the feet get so wet it's all over. though it can make you feel pretty hardcore.

Hey team. I took a big step last night.  I registered for Muskoka 70.3.  I am a bit in denial about what I just did but my name now shows up on the confirmation list.  eeek! My fiance has done it the last two years and registered for this year as soon as it opened.  I've had fun spectating and I have to say it's been super cool to see Craig Alexander in the flesh ... i've been itching to be in it.

Anyway, especially given that I just signed up for something so outside of my comfort zone I will be getting to 100% of my challenge goals - no problem.

Congrats on registering!  That's awesome!!  I'm still in denial and haven't registered for my marathon OR my HIM yet... But I've been training, so I should do that soon Yell

It must feel great to "officially" be doing the race!

Got in a 7 miler this am, pretty easy run, worked on my negative splits. Tomorrow is a busy work day, so it will be a rest day for training and I'll be back at on Friday.

Sadly, if he races here again (I am guessing he probably will since it seems to be an effective tune-up for Kona) i probably won't see him with me being so friggin far behind.  Being a spectator was pretty cool the last two years ... though we did see him at the resort's restaurant after the race ... I was totally starstruck!!! And I would love to touch his delts! hehehe!

Cool Jen,

I know a number of folks who want to do this race. What's the draw? Why not Muskoka?

Nice workout for me today. Legs have been a little tired lately, with increasing mileage. Anyway, did 20 mins on bike, followed by 11.5ish k run. Last half increasing intensity & held pace well. Felt like a clydesdale cheetah (is there such an animal?!?)

Hope everyone is doing well with their goals...2/3 of January done!!!

Well, there's a few things:

1. it's one of only 2 Ironman branded 70.3 races in Canada (sorry that Cornerbrook is no longer).

2. It's a really tough bike and run course. heh. gulp.

3. They get some really high caliber pro's- like Craig Alexander and Mirinda Carfrae

4. Also, I think it's a good time of year for this neck of the woods. Early in September means one can have done sufficient open water swims to feel ready.

Also cool that it's a Deerhurst where Shania Twain got her start and married her now ex there ... that's just a fun fact - not a draw to the race! haha.

Hey team, just wondering and putting it out there that we do a bit of a sweep of the team. Our team captain seems to be out of commission and this would be the time to check-in and get people who have disappeared off the team spreadsheet. This happened in the November challenge and it does impact us as a team.

Any thoughts?

I'm not quite sure what the etiquette is but my January has been an EPIC fail.  Working non-stop (almost literally) and spending any spare time I do have with my kids, which had the affect of screwing th pooch of any significant training...  Is it shady to just bail?  Should I lower my goals?  or should I just drag you all down with me (bwahahahah!).  In short, feel free to sweep me...  :-)

I have fallen behind this past week (a little too much birthday celbrating and work and kids). And have been a little quiet due to that too, so please don't sweep me yet! I WILL get back on track by this weekend.

In general, it may not hurt to take a look to try to check in with those that haven't posted to the spreadsheet in a while. I remember from back in Nov, there's a way to check to see if they have even logged into BT? Not sure what the rules or etiquette are for removing though...

Oh don't worry.  I was a team challenge captain and encouraged people but we did have a couple that never came back and never responded and I was filling in the sheet today and I noticed that there might be a few that we haven't heard from since the beginning.

It's cool if the month doesn't work out as planned. It's a BT challenge - not life and death, here.  I mean, if you're around and cool with whatever the month has brought that's great.  It is okay to not reach 100% - life happens, it's okay to revise goals, and there may be folks who we don't hear from again - those are the ones I was thinking of

I was noticing that today, too. Of course not talking about sweeping people who are putting in an effort, just a cleaning house of the people who haven't made an appearance since the early days of the month and whatnot. I don't know what steps need to be taken, but I agree with the fact that they need to occur.

Hey guys, please don't remove anyone from the spreadsheet. That's for the Challenge Organizer (me, this month) to do. The reason is --> It's up to the Challenge Organizer to determine what rules will be followed, and apply them uniformly across all the teams. That way, different teams aren't doing different things, etc.

That said, here's the procedure for my challenges. (Again, different organizers have different procedures, so this is just for the challenges that I put together....)

When people seem to have disappeared:
1) The Team Captain lets me (the Challenge Organizer) know.
2) The Team Captain sends a PM to the missing person. (But only the team captain does this. That way, the person doesn't feel like he/she is being stalked.)
3) If the person doesn't reply within a few days, the Team Captain lets me know.
4) I'll check the person's logs and determine their last login date. Based upon that, I'll set a date for dropping the person. If the person hasn't checked in by that date, I'll remove the person from the spreadsheet.

If it's the Team Captain who has disappeared, feel free to select a new captain!

When people have been sick or injured (or just overwhelmed with life), but do NOT want to drop out of the challenge, I'll let them revise their goal. There are a few different ways to do this, but for sickness/injury, here's one way:
(Original goal) x (Days that you COULD work out) / (Days in the month) = Revised goal

For example: January has 31 days. Say your goal was 50 miles, but you missed 6 days due to illness/injury.
50 miles x (25 days that you COULD work out) / (31 days in Jan.) = 40 miles revised goal

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Dee

Hm. Should I assume that you're being sarcastic, and tase you for it? Or shall I assume that you're finally acknowledging the power and awesomeness of the taser-cult?

Hm. Decisions, decisions.... Ah well. In either case, this solution should work:
