Would you consider 4:30 at Fat Tony's, so we could be eating by 5 pm?

Works for me! I'm an early eater anyway and usually am at dinner by 4:00. I'm trying to work with the people that see 8:00 PM as an early dinner, though

4:30 it is!

Valuable info from dinner last year---bring change for the parking meter---and watch your time so you can add to it since it has something one hour limit!!!

Completed a 103 mile ride at 19.0 MPH yesterday.  It was a little warmer here in Florida and felt a little cramping the last 10 miles are so.  Nutrition was good.  Drank 4 bottles of Infinit and a few GU chomps.  This was my 5th 100 or so ride in the last 7 weeks so I feel good about the bike going into the race.  I bought a Louis Garneau Air Rocket helmet and Reynolds Assualt carbon wheels I used for the first time on this ride.  Was thinking about getting the wheel discs from Wheel Builders.  Was looking at their website last night.  For $89 bucks you can get the two discs and they attach with 8 fastners.  I read an article that this was a cheap way of getting additional speed.  It also said you had to have a certain amount of clearance between your cassette in order for the disc to slide in and keep the cassette, chain, and

derailleur from rubbing it.

Does anyone have any expierence with this set up? Did you get additional speed?

Do a search here and on ST for wheelbuilder. It's universal that the wheel covers are worth it. Even the snobs suggest getting the wheelbuilder cover rather than anyone's disc.

Amusing note that in at least one test set the cover proved to be MORE aerodynamic than one of the Zipp discs.

I bought one for my QR (Velocity Deep-V wheels).   Looks dang cool on the bike (check out my Logs for a pic of my bike with it on) and am looking for decals/stickers for it.  Not sure if it added speed but sure seems like it.  My rides with it on tend to be faster but these are my race wheels and only ride them for test runs or racing.  As for the clearance issue, when you go to their site you will specify your wheel (brand, size, etc).  There are certain wheels they can't make covers for.  You will need a tool to remove your cassette if you don't have one.  It's a handy tool to have so would be a good idea to pick one up anyhow.

One other note, I had a slight issue with my pump and the cover.  My pump has the dual head and getting it on/off the valve I cracked the cover slightly.  Ended up cutting a slightly larger hole for the valve and just use a larger piece of tape to cover the hole.

Overall I think it was worth buying.

Did an Aquabike Oly over the weekend as a prep.  Nice 1500m OWS (except for the part where the fog rolled in and everyone got lost, couldn't see the buoys, life guards, etc) and felt strong the entire way.  One more 3 hr ride and 4k swim and taper time.

Hmm, assuming this isn't a message to calm down I will have to check out probikekit.com to see if they have them.  Thanks!

Use this Silca Pump Disc Wheel Adapter to pump up your disc or other wheels that require a tight 90-degree bend on your pump head. Simply insert the disc wheel adapter into your current Presta pump head, grab a friend to hold it on your valve stem and begin pumping....if you are lucky you can hold the adapter and have your "friend" do the pumping.

A guy at the gym asked "So how do you feel about your race. Are you ready?". I kinda looked at him, thought for a second, and said "Given the time I have and what I set out to do, I think I am!". I am really excited to see how it all comes together (or not) on race day. I just hope we don't get 30 mph winds, etc. :-)

Any serious reason to expect strong winds?

No specific reason to expect strong winds - it can be windy on any given day. I posted this a few weeks ago though:

According to weather underground, here are the historical averages for Nov 13 in WIlmington:
Average High: 68
Average Low: 46
Record high: 83
Record low: 29

Last year on Nov 13 (this year the race is on a later date than last year, so this is for Nov 13, NOT race day 2009), it stayed in the low to mid 50s all day, was overcast with winds that averaged between 15 and 20 (gusts up to 30). I hope we get something better than that! The average tmps looks awesome! Please, just be "average"!

Welcome! I hope you were training w/us too!

Thanks :-).  I've sort of been training, I had a disappointing IMWI race in Sept and I have been trying to balance the recovery and training in order to hope to be able to do this and feel better about my year.  I am still not that confident about it.  Some days I feel the exhaustion, some days I feel like I should go.  I better do a serious taper. :-)

I haven't seriously looked at all the logistics for this race so now I'm trying to catch up on things you guys have known and talked about for months. :-\  I do know it's flat though for which I will be very thankful!  I know nothing about this area so I will be discovering new territory which is always great.  If anyone has any ideas for me, I'm all ears and I appreciate it.  Thanks!

Ahh, that's for the trolly to get to T1 before the race, correct? From the hotels and such?

The trolly from T1 to the swim start doesn't require a reservation still.

Had me a bit confuzzled there

That's right -- they say that the trolley from T1 to swim start needs no reservation.  If you don't have a ride from the hotel area to T1, then you make a reservation on the morning trolley.

For those who don't get the emails. The athlete's book is out. I would suggest not waiting until the one they're supposed to get to you gets there as I got mine the day I returned from the race last year.

http://beach2battleship.com/faq.cfm

1) Will there be transportation for athletes on the morning of the event from downtown to the beach/ transition #1?
Yes. Trolleys will take those athletes without a ride to the beach to the first transition area. The Athlete Event Information booklet explains how to make a reservation for one of these buses. These trolleys will leave from the downtown Hilton at 5AM on event morning. You can reserve a spot on one of these buses now by emailing us at [email protected] .

2) Will there be transportation from the first transition area to the swim start area?
Yes. ALL athletes will board a trolley before the swim start and be transported to the swim start area. Full iron distance trolleys will begin running to the swim start area at 5:45AM while half iron distance trolleys will begin running to the swim start area at 7:15AM. THERE IS NO NEED TO MAKE A RESERVATION FOR THE TROLLEYS FROM THE TRANSITION AREA TO THE SWIM START..
