When they mark the course, what all is marked? Just turns or will they mark some other info like aid stations or anything else?

Hope training is going well for everyone. Would like to get a practice ride on the course before the race. Keep the dates for rides updated, would like to join as many as I can.

As I recall from pre-riding the course, few aid station locations are marked on the bike course (I only remember one).  But I wouldn't worry about it.  You'll see 'em coming on race day.  Just get a feel for the hills, the roads and the turns and you'll be in good shape.

You'll never go more then 15 miles without an aid station, but if you want a list this is what I remember from last year

Before entering the loop just outside of Verona about 12 miles into the ride.

After you leave Verona and right before you start on HWY G

Once you get over the first hill in Mt. Horeb by the high school

Cross Plains just after HWY KP

Main street in Verona

You will pass each of these aid stations twice during the 112 miles which brings it to 10 stations approx 11 miles apart each.

Special needs is just past Fireman' park (where most start their summer training rides) and it is a mile or two past the halfway mark.

Pretty quiet around here, everyone must be out training!!  I don't know about you guys but the wind here in Iowa has been brutal for the last several days.  90 mile bike on Friday and 12 mile run yesterday were enough to make me say uncle!!  Hopefully everyone's training is going well.

I'm in a final week before my marathon.... and my foot is hurting.... check out my thread on the main page called "okay..... what is going on with my foot?!?!".  It has got me down in the dumps.    and making me really scared that I had better fix it before too long so I can be nice and strong for IM!  Which is like only 4 months away!!

This place is dead! Wake up!

Got my first real 'long' ride in last weekend...Went up to do Brute Acradia in Wisconsin. 150K with 7K of climbing. Had a blast in a 'can this ride get any worse' way...Big Winds and cold rain highs in the upper 40's....This was real riding though! I'm so going back. Had several climbs that were 1.6 miles long with average grade of 6.8% or better. A few a high as 18%....Here I am taping out a rhythm after the switchbacks....

Normalized power for 201 for 5:47! I was destroyed when done. Freezing down the core.

We stayed with some friends in a house rental overlooking the Mississippi River with an on site vineyard...

Anybody know if the Verona loop has been marked yet? I am heading up for my first ride on it this weekend and have this great talent for getting lost. I even got lost when driving it this winter with someone else navigating.

Also, for those who ride just the loop part, where is the best place to start from?

Yo, McBro!

The loop is indeed marked and very easy to follow.  A copy of the route will also help so you can look ahead for the turns.  If I can do it and not get lost,  you'll be able to do it without any problems.  Laughing

I'd recommend starting at Fireman's Park - it's right on the loop, and serves as a nice base if you're planning to do a second loop.

Be prepared to suffer.    Let me know if you want some company!

How are the roads marked.  Just mile markers or some other indication of the route?  Thanks!

SpottedCow - 2011-05-26 12:19 AM How are the roads marked.  Just mile markers or some other indication of the route?  Thanks!

On race day or other days?  When I rode the course last July, the loop was marked with green arrows painted on the road and was easy to follow.  However, having a map was handy.  There were also other courses marked in different colors which followed some of the IMWI loop.  The map was useful in figuring out which color arrows to follow.  If you know this ahead of time, then no map was needed for the loop.  I didn't ride the rest of the course (on bike) until race day.

I don't remember seeing any mile markers.

Doesn't BT host a weekend the last weekend in June where you can ride, run and swim?

Hey all you IMoo'rs I'll be out doing 2 loops of the course on Saturday and possible one on Sunday if anyone is around for a ride. I am thinking about a 8-10am wheels out ride Saturday then if I get a ride in on Sunday it would have to be after my volunteer shift at the marathon so mabe early afternoon.

ICE, are you thinking about this?

http://www.wisconsinbrickadventure.com/. Not a BT effort, but it looks like a great opportunity. I'm heading up after work on the 24th. The web site has the complete itinerary.

Thanks for volunteering! Have your legs ready for bike catching, you'll get a great workout in if you are re-racking the bikes.

Well if it's a good workout then I'm all for that.

Quick update.  I rode the loop today and there are arrows to point you in the correct direction for all 40m.   If you are planning to ride it anytime soon, there are road closed signs on Shady Oak.  I made it through and it hasn't started yet, so just an FYI.  Rest of the loop is the same--very bumpy and many drivers very grumpy.

Thanks for volunteering. I did it last year in order to sign up for this year. I volunteered at waterstation #1 during the day and as a catcher on the last shift - working as a catcher was a pretty awesome experience. Hopefully I will be in prior to your shift!! lol

I will say that I was completely exhausted after that day - your work your off!!!

I would advise that you get to the sign up line pretty early (5am) on Monday morning - last year the line stetched out of sight around the corner. I got there at 5:15 and was probably about 200 people back.

I was swimming at Fireman's Park today and learned that parking there to do course rides is no longer acceptable when the park is open (lifeguards start at 11am).  Verona is encouraging people to park on the side streets and parking lots where businesses are closed on the weekends.  Apparently those who rent the park for activities have found the parking lot full due to all the riders.

I take a bypass of Rt92....the road sucks, its chewed up and drivers are whipping by at 70+ honking.

Bypass:

Don't turn right on RT92, take a left and continue on G (for maybe a block), then right on G again, Take BritValley Road to JG and into Mt Horeb (dumps off at the high school)
