bdenehy - 2012-04-21 9:46 AM Thanks for all the biking tips. I'll take them to heart.

I had two runs today. Fisrt a 13 mile z2, then 1 mile pacing my 6 year old in his 1st race. You can imagine which was more fun!

my 11 min. run was with my 8 yr old son on his bike - that was a lot of fun will have to do that again for sure!

So, the past few days have been busy for me. Have done a fair amount of driving going to get my youngest daughter. I am very happy to have her with me this weekend. I miss her everytime she is not with me. Even though my divorce was over 6 years ago the only thing that I have never been able to adjust to is not having my kids with me. Spending the last few days of my son living with me until he moves to Burlington VT. Please don't tell him but I will miss him big time. Gave him a little party yesterday for leaving and he appreciated it.

OK now all the sappy stuff is out of the way...

Carla, I am sorry you are having a crappy time w/ the weather. My heart goes out for you. If it matters I am proud of you because you are out there doing it and that is more than most people in the world.

Cyborg, congrats on your event also. Huge ovation goes out to you!

Training...So the past couple of days have been rough. I experienced a slight flair up of my rheumatoid arthritis in my right ankle, but it is gone now, unfortunately the increase in the methotrexate made me TIRED as hell. Running SUCKED, didn't get as far as I wanted. Having a slight problem with my bike that I will take to the shop on monday to figure it out. For some reason, my tire is bulging and it was the inner tube that was causing it, got a new one and replaced it myself, first time doing it and still have all my fingers and no extra parts LOL, but it is bulging in another area. Not sure why so will find out monday.

Food...Well the food has been off the past few days d/t the 1)lack of planning on my part and 2)parties. I've come to learn a very valuable lesson that I cannot have cake in my house. In fact I got nauseated on it and then just ate too much which caused the first part. Lesson learned. If anything I will do cupcakes the next time because I can limit the amount of cupcakes easier then cake.

The funny thing was I was laying there thinking crap I am so nauseated I can't do this to myself, reminded me of drinking when I was younger.

I have a question that I need answered. This weekend I have a 20 mile bike ride as part of a team duathlon. What should I be doing exercise wise? I know I shouldn't overdue it but just not sure how much to do.

Sorry for rambling!

Tire should be easy to fix. The tire should have a witness line running around it and this needs to be an even distance from the rim all the way around the wheel. Check and see if it's a different dimension at the bulge. I bet that's the problem. It's an easy fix just deflate the tire and work the tire till the witness line is even then re inflate checking the witness line as you go.

Unless you hit a big pothole or a curb in which case the rim could bent.

I've made it about 30 minutes w/ the kids on their bikes at the track, after that they loose interest or crash!

Glad to see you running again.

RR's done...sorry if it's a little too wordy...:-) I hate SHORT RR's, but I also hate overly detailed RR's. :-)

Awaiting to hear from the other racers!

PS - I am having suffering from painful shoulders due to the deep massage that I had. I'm sore at all anywhere else (which I am really surprised about).  Should I treat it with Ice or heat? I normally treat it with heat, but I'm wondering if it's the right thing to do, or I'm going at it wrong. This is a massage soreness, not racing/training soreness if that makes any difference.

Thanks!

DJ.

I'm not 100% sure on this but I don't think heat would help. I would think heat would make the inflammation worse. I would ice it or just take some ibuprofen. Or maybe both. And drink lots of water.

CyborgQueen (DJ) - Hope you were able to see the Windy Video.  Many thanks to your unconditional support!  It means the world to me!

Shake-n-bake (Tim) - Thanks for your support of me and my race!  Deeply touched!

Ken J - You never cease to amaze me! Again, thanks for being "Our Leader!"  Eye remains on the prize!

Meulen (Brian) - Took a chance on the weather... was very sketchy on the bike.  Turned out a PR... grateful to have made it to the line!

Peter Flagg - Yes, weather was a great challenge as was safety.  I wanted to "Toe the Line" and use my judgement after I got to the start.  Ended up being able to finish.  Thanks for your support and very nice to meet you!!

Robin Gray 260 - Love your warm thoughts during my race!  I do believe I felt them!    Thanks for posting updates to the group!

Gator22 (Kirk) - Thanks!!  Made it through the race!

BDenehy (Bill) - Those were some strong head winds... luck I was able to muster through them!  Thanks for celebrating my racing!

Renshaw - I will see you face to face!!!

Carla,  the first 2 days ice. Ice on 10-15 min, then off for 45 min, repeat. Do this as much as possible the first couple of days, after 2 days THEN heat. same way 10-15 min and off for 45 min. Of course I have never done an event of your caliber but I am a emergency department nurse so that is where the info comes from.
