Member 763 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Originally posted by Jorgito22 for those flying into Panama City from east coast, any suggestion on which airline to use thats reasonable, I usually travel southwest but there not offering any flights than..... I flew Delta, and they were reasonable. You have to change in Atlanta, of course. But, I flew in/out of Tallahasee because I couldn't find a reasonable flight out of PCB on Tuesday. Flying into PCB was fairly wide open, but leaving was jammed. And Tallahassee was also a few hundred dollars cheaper than PCB, but I needed to rent a car, so it probably balanced out in terms of $$. And Tallahassee is a couple hours drive away, and it's a pretty boring drive. |

Grand Rapids | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I had my last race of the season (IM Steelhead 70.3) before Nov. 2nd. A little disheartened over the swim. I haven't been able to put a complete race together since last year...one discipline is always weak. I need to look at the bigger picture. 3 months before the one that matters the most. I can't believe we're only 3 months away... |

Veteran 134 Murfreesboro, TN | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Originally posted by Blueraiderzone I don't think your post was complete so I'm not exactly sure what you are asking, but Southwest flys into PCB and probably has more flights than anyone into PCB. It is a very small airport with only a couple of airlines flying in. We booked a flight yesterday on Southwest from Nashville to PCB for one of my family members to come support me. Blueraiderzone - K is flying in that Friday morning at 10:00. |

Grand Rapids | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Exactly, regarding first goal being to finish. Time goal: 12:30. If all goes perfectly I think I could go slightly under 12. :-) |

From the Ironman Florida website " Is the swim a mass start? Yes, the swim is a mass start. IRONMAN Florida will feature a mass start based on self-seeding. Athletes will self-seed into swim start corrals based upon their estimated swim finish time. All athletes will have the traditional 17 hours to complete the entire event (subject to intermediate cutoffs). Expert 1130 Fernandina Beach, FL | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread This is my first so agree with the first goal being just to finish. Secret goal is sub 12 (which I think is doable). I just finished my last race before Nov 2nd also. Nothing but long weekends ahead with my bike |

Veteran 220 Plant City, Florida | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread IMCDA did the same self seeding (i did the race it is a great town and a good race). I was skeptical as I am with any change. this was a simple process and is all up to the athlete on where and when they want to enter the fray. if you have done marathons or such you will be familiar with the setup, they will have volunteers with signs displaying times. My predicted time was between 1:30 to 1:40 so I lined up with those folks. the gun went off and the under 1 hour folks were off, it was a steady stream without stopping. as your group came up you would cross the mat and off you went. there was a bit but not much combat swimming. This was a two loop course just like IMFL (no waves its a very smooth lake). as long as you seed with the right folks you have little chance of getting a swim over. I was out right at 1:30 and happy with that. I think the most disappointment was from the folks watching, a mass start is an awesome sight and IMFL has one of the better for the mayhem that ensues at the gun. It's not a wave start like IM Louisville but more of a controlled mass start. Edited by aintaround 2013-08-06 8:45 PM |

Regards, The Oaseas Team There's a lot of talk about it on the facebook page. This is the company that manages Shores of Panama. If you have reservations at the Shores of Panama you need to double check your reservations. It is my understanding those who went directly to the owner or thru VRBO.com are ok but if you booked thru the Shores of Panama management company you probably do not have your reservations and you are probably out your deposit. It has been suggested that you can dispute the charges with the credit card company and probably get your money back. Either way, you need to check on your reservations or possibly find new ones. |

Mine sub 11? I get nervous even mentioning it....hahah Finish, not hurt myself (too much) Sub 13 if I can get there this year. I cannot believe we're only 3 months out. I need to find a condo. Just thought I'd rent the same place as last year but it's gone. Slight panic, but I know there are lots and lots of condos. I'll just have to find something better. Training is going well. Supposed to run 8 miles the other day. Accidentally ran 11. Slow as molasses still at this point, but the endurance is coming along. |

I've just been cleared to swim and road bike. I've Been keeping up with training on bike trainer and started back running without issue about 3 weeks ago. It's my first ironman and I'm concerned. I missed Steelhead 70.3 but do have a slot at Augusta 70.3 end of September. Thanks for your help! |

I missed Steelhead 70.3 but do have a slot at Augusta 70.3 end of September. Thanks for your help! I'm assuming that this is your first IM? If so, I would suggest become very aware of your body. Rest when you need to. Don't push it too hard. An injury will simply set you back for weeks. Remember to use an UPRD when you need to (Un Planned Rest Day) There is such a thing and it's very useful. Don't over do that either. Consistency will buy you more than one very hard workout. Pushing past discomfort is good. Pushing past pain is not. Learn the difference. Calculate the pace you need to maintain on the bike and on the run to finish in 17 hours. You will buy yourself some piece of mind. One last thing I read. When you look at athletes training for triathlon, approximately 30% (if I remember correctly) get hurt during training. For Iron Man athletes the number goes up to 90%. (That number I do remember) It's because we are pushing our bodies to the limit. When you're pushing on your limits it is easy to push too hard. Remember to push gently. Stretch gently after you work out. Find and use a good massage therapist. That's too much, but it's what came to mind. Good luck, looking forward to seeing you in Florida! |

Also just bought my airline ticket, man next thing you know we will all be at the starting line.....oh man..... We're 80 days out. I had a good result at a sprint 2 weeks ago given I had ridden 6 hours in the 2 days before. I have 1 Olympic left on labor day. Then it's nothing but Florida. Anyone have a better strategy for battling constant fatigue? I haven't had a workout that I wasn't sore or stiff for the first 15 minutes since June 17th. Also my usual riding group is letting me down. The guys I usually ride with are only good for about 90 minutes. Other than that training is going as well as could be expected.
