Regular 92 Mississauga, Ontario | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread scottgreenstone - 2010-07-15 9:19 AM question about run gear bag. We are supposed to drop it off on saturday during gear checkin. Does that mean my fuel belt needs to be filled that day o can I add the fuel belt to the bag sunday morning? Last year at LP we had full access to bikes and T1/T2 transition bags race morning. The Athelete's Guide seems to have the same wording as last year if I am remembering correctly. As noted - good to check at the Athelete's meeting or when checking in. At LP you leave your race day clothes bag on the same rack as T1/T2 bags, so I am expecting to be able to add things to T1 or T2 bags on Sunday morning. Best to check this at the race site, or send a query now if this is a big issue for you.

Sorry about the bike. I actually work in Westminster, MD. Race Pace has my bike right now for a final tune-up. Edited by rscheung 2010-07-16 5:36 AM |

Champion 6962 Atlanta, Ga | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Random musing for Friday: Just about everything is overpriced with WTC and IM except for one thing. And note that this is coming from the cheapest man on the planet.... But the package of pictures that gives you all of your photos. It's like $80 and you get every single shot of you they have. It's by far the best deal ever and the only thing 'worth' spending your money on. I don't buy pictures of me at races, so it's not like I have a stack of these. But I will buy this package every time. Just my 2 cents for the day. Oh...and get there early the next morning to get your swim picture. You have to sort through them yourself. |

Master 1572 PA | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Marvarnett - 2010-07-15 3:50 PM Brian, If this is your first IM, please go to the Welcome Dinner. Not because of the information, but because of the atmosphere and the pomp and circumstance. I'm no fan of corporate WTC, but this is one thing they do WELL. Hands down! Do not hang out in your hotel room. This will be my fourth IM and I will not miss the dinner. Not because of the food, information or anything else. You know the chills you get when watching Kona on TV...multiply that by 10 and you get the chills from being in that room. x1000! |

Member 116 | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Put new race tires and new tubes on my bike this week. Went for a ride this morning and my front tire tube popped immediately. (maybe a dud or maybe I had it tucked under the tire and snake bite!) I replaced it with the older tube and rode 35 miles with no problem. Should I buy a new tube and replace it again or is it crazy to just keep the older tube which seems to be sitting just fine? I will have 2 spare tubes with me and two at SN. Sorry, control freak! Thanks, Kevin |

I just hope what you have posted is correct. |

Master 2468 Muskego, Wisconsin | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread My kids rock! 26+ hours of travelling and not one tear was shed. We're here in Arnold Maryland all safe and sound. Bike is all put together and up at Bike Doctor getting a quick tune up to make sure we're all good to go. It's been 1.5 years since I've been in a bike shop and wow do I miss them. Checked out the new rides and just browsed. I'll go back later and just suck in the bike shop smell. Now it's starting to feel real. |

'Bout time you posted!! =p I was getting lonely trying to represent the "Bing" all by myself... (well, you're a pseudo rep being from Endicott and all...) |

Not sure if you can leave them clipped in coming off the bike into T2. |

Master 1471 Dunedin | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Marvarnett - 2010-07-15 3:53 PM My 2 cents on wetsuits. Simply grab the collar and let a big rush of cold water in. I actually do like a roll so I can breath as well and I got a rush of cold water in and I was golden. It costs you like 1-2 seconds each time and you still gain the benefit of a full sleeve suit (for buoyancy/speed). I actually really appreciate this bit of advice... I'm like a previous poster. I am roasting in my full sleeved wetsuit in water temps above, say, 65*... my face flushes and my arms and upper back get beat red and I sweat. A lot. But that method makes some sense. I had asked a shop in Ithaca about renting a sleeveless and I was promptly told that swimmers should be more concerned about their buoyancy. But a previous IMLP x2 finisher told me that starting out that HOT at the beginning of the ride is no way to really "start" the race... So, if money isn't an option and you're worried about being hot then rent if you can, you've gotten along just fine this far with your long sleeve so I guess there's no sense in making another purchase. BTW, Marvarnett...another reason why I like your advice... I can get chilly walking around after the swim when they get us all out of the water after I've gotten wet...so the long sleeves kind of take care of instances where the air temp is cooler than water temp. Do you mean at the race? Pros start at 6:50am. Then you get in & stay in behind a row of flags until the start at 7am. After the swim that wetsuit comes right off and you carry it with you to T1. |

I'm still reading through the guide...so I haven't read about warm ups |
