Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() gobluedds - 2012-12-10 5:24 PM sorry to hear the bad news Scott, be patient with the injury and I applaud the decision on pulling the plug until healed. There is such thing as muscle memory, so fitness will be lost for a while but then come back. Very important that you find the cause for the injury and don't focus solely on the symptoms.Well after a full week of total rest, and three visits with a CMT, the ankle is only marginally better and pain is now radiating up the side of my leg. Next step is a visit with physio for possible PT. Have decided to pull the plug on any training this month and I'm scrapping the race I had planned in January. Will work on dealing with the stress of holidays and year end at the offices and getting myself ready for next year. Still not sure what caused the flare up and still don't really have a diagnosis. So frustrated! Good luck to all in this month's challenge! |

Just getting back to where I was in April. Sorry that you are injured but you're making the right call to heal best. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So my Tri club is doing this swim challenge on Sunday - 100x100. You can do it by yourself or as part of a team. Despite not swimming since Nov 11, I decided to join, so it should be fun. Obviously I will be part of a team. Just for the camaraderie and stuff...and me not wanting to drown. But I will only mention the camaraderie. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 40 minutes on the deadmill, watching the Pistons game, watching bad basketball made me feel fast and powerful, or at least like I was the only one trying. Mitch Swim 2 - Bike 7 -Run 9 - Rest 1 - Total 18 Time 14:10:44

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm having trouble getting my butt out the door too, but it has to do more with the lack of time during this part of the year. And my wife's b'day is coming too. This morning we had crazy winds and some rain, so it was a rest day again. Edited by markz 2012-12-12 2:46 AM |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm back finally. I swam once the week after Arizona, then a few days later tried running on a treadmill for 3 miles and it was a disaster. To top it off, the TSA folks lost the seat post collar for my tri-bike so I've had that excuse (until yesterday) that I couldn't ride. And riding easy on the trainer is all I've really wanted to do for the past few weeks, so in the end I've basically done nothing for the past 3 weeks. It's depressing, and as a result I just haven't really been active here. The only good thing about the past few weeks is that I've gotten back on the ice with my men's league team and have been playing hockey again. Today, however, I finally broke my losing streak and got out for a run with our local running group. We did a 12k at 12:12 this afternoon. The local paper even showed up to interview us and take pictures! Roads were snowpacked and slush, cars were unforgiving to us, but I don't care, it was nice to run again. I hope I can keep this up now. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Climbinggonzo - 2012-12-12 3:04 PM Best way to regain consistency is to do short and frequent workouts. Anything long will feel like torture after an Ironman. Swi, bike and run for the challenge and it will get you back on track.I'm back finally. I swam once the week after Arizona, then a few days later tried running on a treadmill for 3 miles and it was a disaster. To top it off, the TSA folks lost the seat post collar for my tri-bike so I've had that excuse (until yesterday) that I couldn't ride. I hope I can keep this up now. Beware that some people after doing an Ironman (with the feeling of achievement) lay back for a while, that can easily turn into a long time, that eventually turns to total inactivity. I know at least a couple of those, including a former pro triathlete in my team that couldn't do twenty miles on the bike with me today. The worst part is that they get back after months expecting to see numbers that they had at their peak, then feel down when they see reality, get frustrated and abandon the sport. Slowly but surely, get back in the train, don't feel discouraged if you see your last numbers out of reach. Fitness will come back. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Managed to get out side yesterday for a 17km run. Nice to be able to do it in cooler weather again. More storm today not so sure about the brick planned. Start 5 weeks holiday tomorrow so looking forward to be able to train harder and get to the beach for a OWS. 3 week to go for my HIM MARK - Looks like our weather has moved to the east and you are getting it now.
