I was really hoping I could make this but I forgot I had already committed to something. I would have been the hit of the meet with my BT speedo doing a belly flop off the starting block.

roadrhino - 2010-07-01 6:58 PM Alrighty, peeps...

July 10 is around the corner and I'm looking for a rough count of who might be interested in coming down for the swim meet that day. I don't need anything for sure until Tuesday of next week, but if you know one way or the other, just let me know.

Feel free to PM me if you want additional details and I will be glad to fill you in. And I'm still entertaining the option of a post-race bash at my place later that afternoon.

That event is reserved for bachelorette parties and I usually start off in a police uniform I borrowed from JC and have "Hero" playing on my boombox.

BTW I am putting the prize in the mail today.

roadrhino - 2010-07-01 6:55 PM Not sure what's going to happen with this, but I have a couple of  theories:

1) I'm getting the ghost of Buddy Holly direct from Lubbock

or...

2) Todd's going to be standing on my doorstep in his BT speedo here in a few days

Undecided

Well I guess if he can send it in the mail he's not giving you something contageous though come to think of it you might want to have rubber gloves on hand(s).

haha...I always thought green was a lovely color on me Laughing

No major plans for the weekend.  Just enjoy the extra day off and get some training in.  Maybe watch some fireworks?  Hopefully it won't be raining all weekend.

Unfortunately, I think we are out for July 10th.  Got a request from my dad to help them out at their beach house in Galveston.  (They are rebuilding since Ike destroyed the last one.)

Hope everyone has a GREAT July 4th!

Happy Friday and 4th of July!  I overslept for work... thank goodness i don't have an office or anything that I need to go to in the morning or I could be in some trouble.  I'm going home for the weekend after work today and spending the 4th with my family.  Then on Monday the Clemson team is going to work in Columbia so I'll be living in a hotel next week.  Definitely going to try to keep my training going though.  Then Monday the following week is my 21st birthday  None of my friends can come down because of work and the whole living 9 hours away and then there's army nurse Harriet who always gets sent to the middle of nowhere for training stuff on my birthday but the guys I work with are all going to come downtown with me and James so I'll still get to celebrate with a little group of people.

Hope everyone's had a good week.  Have a safe and happy 4th!

Well, Todd, really sorry you can't make it on both accounts...although I think the small children at the swim meet are going to be spared some irreversible trauma. Laughing

Plans for the Fourth will be an excursion to the Hill Country to play in the river and get in some hilly bike and run sessions. We'll get some good BBQ tonight and then cooking burgers tomorrow and probably indulging on all the leftovers Sunday. It's a nice getaway...and hopefully the rain will stay away!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend...be safe and enjoy the extra time off if you get it.

Trailer is getting packed, got a quick run in this morning. Off to the woods for a couple of days. Fireworks are illegal in Alberta without a license. Luckily for me I was in the next province over last weekend and got a bunch to take out with us, now I just need the fire warning to be lowered in the national park.

Happy Canada Day (yesterday) and July 4th to all the rest.

After the race I have officially started the planning for a 70.3 for next season. I think I will also be a volunteer for IMTX. What all is involved and the perks of it? I think if I commit to volunterring it will help with the urge I have to sign up for it.

Do you have a time on this?  Kerianne has her first sleep over and has to be picked up Saturday at 9:00am.  If it is later in the morning Ken and I would love it be there.  If not, he should be able to make it.

I haven't volunteered for a full 140.6 but Lonestar 70.3 volunteering was awesome!  I body marked all the hot chicks (including pros) in the race, hung out in transition and yelled at people with no chin straps or helmet on backwards / riding the bike in transition. I ended up guarding a spot where spectators were trying to cross the path of the runners near transition.  I saw the race from great spots and spotted most of the people I was looking for as they came through.  Or... you can just show up and get  free t-shirt and not do anything, I've seen examples of that too!

I believe in the 140.6 you volunteer for a specific task and time period.  I plan to catch athletes as they collapse across the finish line.  I clearly am not afraid of bodily fluids if I have 5 kids.  The finish line is a great place to be as a volunteer.  I helped with manual timing at an olympic and had a lot of fun.  I learned a lot about what it takes to pull of a race and it helped me value the race director and timing a lot more.

I might be the slowest swimmer of the bunch but I can demonstrate a perfect belly flop in a speedo as well as anyone - I am in.  I think I am bringing the bike though - I might have to get my ride in somewhere down there.

So this is random, but fun.

A new running store opened up right across the street from my house this week.  They do all this fancy schmancy shoe fitting and what not.

So I went in there today for work to see if I could get with the owner about advertising.

Got to talking to the two guys there, turns out they are both BT members.  Very cool.  So now I have new "friends" that I've actually met in person.

Though in hindsight, I guess this means I need to be a little more PC in my logs seeing as I will likely eventually do business with these peeps.  Hehe.

Ok, I just had to share real quick about where I am staying this weekend...we're at the river house of one of the main directors of the Lance Armstrong Foundation...there's a little bit of TdF memorabilia here and it's pretty cool.

Perfect timing too after Stage 1 of the 2010 TdF.  Anybody think Lance has a chance?  Being a geezer myself I have to pull for him.
