Best wishes to all those racing this weekend.

It's a semi-race weekend for me...last swim meet of the year and I'm hoping to post the season's top AG times in the 100 IM and the 50 fly. It's definitely going to be a challenge for me. For now I have the top times in the 100 and 200 free (assuming Nik doesn't snag them from me tomorrow).

Will also be cheering on Ken and Justin as they make their swim team debuts for us. I'll post all the details of their showdown in the 100 and 200 freestyle races. Wink

All I ask is to represent the BT speedo strong my bother.

I KENOTT swim - 2010-07-09 7:13 AM Joke for Friday.

I KENOTT swim is set to be in a swim competition tomorrow!  This should be good for a laugh.  Assuming the belly flop in the BT speedo (sorry Todd, someone has to represent) doesn't get everyones' attention the slow as hell swimming should entertain.   Sorry Tif, but you asked for it!

This whole TRI training experience has been one test after another of things I couldn't do before.

Who is racing?  I think I remember Kelli has a race this weekend - good luck!!! Kim has some sort of easy peasy ride - sounds fun!

The other Kim is racing too.  She might have already left.  I wish I lived closer.  Or rather I which you guys lived closer to here cause I am not fond of Texas.  I'd love to be part of that swim meet.  Just to watch the belly flop in the speedo of course.

My corporate headquarters use to be in Plano, Texas and I went once for a course.  I walked from one building to the next, which is side by side, and got SOAKED.  I like heat, I hate humidity.  Ok, so that was August.  That's the best time to visit Texas right???

It is scientifically proven that the greater the difference in temp between outside and the beer the better it tastes.

I've been contemplating going sockless in my races and was looking for some feedback from the group.

Do any of you race sockless? Is there a specific bike shoe you would suggest for comfort?

Also, I am a pretty bad over-pronator but would like to explore the possibility of race shoes as opposed to my *heavy* Kayanos...is there something that could work for me or am I better off sticking to a stability shoe and just carrying those lead weights around? Laughing

I'd wanted to go sockless as well but no matter how much vaseline I used I still got blisters in my Asics.  I picked up a pair of Zoot's on sale at TOTR early in the season and LOVE them!  Never had anything resembling a blister, they are easy to put on and comfy to run in.  I broke them in to make sure I could wear w/o socks but have not used in a race yet.  I will be wearing them at Bridgeland.

I do my short races sockless but I use Zoot shoes for them.  I also have somewhat normal feet.  With the Zoot shoes I do not get blisters and like them.

Set my short term goals:  I have no motivation to come up with some short term goals.  And my long term goals really can't start yet (all one of them).  So gang, come up with some interesting and challenging goals for me.  Todd - keep them clean.

Happy Friday gang!  It's been one heck of a day for me over here, but it ended up really fun.  I got to talk tri with a guy at a new local running store who is a crazy fast swimmer.  It's amazing how you "know" stuff, but hearing someone else tell you that you need to do it (like, let's say, intervals on the bike or finger tip drills when you're swimming to keep your elbows high) it makes you actually want to do it.    That was a fun little break in my day.

Re: socks while running- I have the girliest feet on the planet (um, can we say once a week pedicures?) so running/racing sockless is out for me.  I get blisters even with body glide and socks because the woman at my salon is very thurough with her callous removal.

Re: Kim's short term goals...
This could be a lot of fun, but instead I'm going to focus on something productive.
Since I know you consider swimming your weakest sport, what about setting a time goal for a specific distance?

So for example, you want to swim a 100 at 2:00 flat or something like that?

Same for running and biking?

Not sure if you're at a point in your tranining where you're working on building speed, but that might be something fun to work twords.  You could do "before" testing to get a feel for where you're at and set a time goal for a speicific distance for the three disciplines based on that?

This from the girl who had a goal last month not to kill her husband... clearly I'm not great at goal setting.

Tina will be home at the end of the month, after me running my own show for over a month and a half.  I probably should have the same goal.

Yay!  Those are two great gifts.  Ken got me a trainer for Christmas and it has helped me get in more time on the bike.

I love the pics!  You must have taken the picture very early in the race to get both Justin and I in the frame.  As you can tell he beat me off the blocks every time.  No belly flop pic since we were all in that race - too bad!  The pics of you Tif doing the fly were really cool.  Thanks again for the invite - I had a blast even being the last one out of the pool each time.  Good photographic evidence of my non-flip turn (part of the reason everyone crushed me).

Hi everybody.  Finally back home from the Cape.  Nantucket Tri done, although nothing to brag about other than finishing.  Will try to get a race report done later (I'm not so dependable about writing those), but have a couple bags of wet, dirty clothes to deal with tonight.  This is the first race I've ever done with a noon start (to allow for ferry travel to the island that morning.) While you Texans will scoff at my wimpiness, completing s/b/r of any distance in 88° and almost 100% humidity is close to inhumane.  I have a new found respect for your version of htfu.  And if you ever organize a race, an out and back bike coarse on narrow, two lane roads which are open to traffic, is a recipe for crashes no matter how many nice cops you put out there.  I had to unclip twice and brake going up hill to avoid collisions on several occasions. That said, there were lots of cool things about the race.  First of all, Nantucket is just a beautiful place to spend a day - or two.  Senators Kerry and Brown were at the race (Brown placed in his AG, Kerry was spectating) and Jenny Thompson (as in hall of fame swimmer) competed.  Locals were terrific and had hoses out in full force to help cool us off during the run.  Several non official water/lemonade stands were also available throughout the course, which was fun.

This race was part of a girl's long weekend for me, so no complaints.  The post race activities were light (aka nil) so we went back down to the beach and cooled off in the ocean.  Showered, changed and had a late lunch/early dinner plus a few recovery beers in town before taking the ferry back to the Cape.

Hope everyone else had a nice weekend!

Race this morning was awesome...so much fun!  Really happy with how I did, with the exception that I dropped my chain twice, couldn't pick it up and had to get off (mid-uphill) the bike both times.  Even so....PR by 3 minutes and 1st in my AG

RR to follow soon.
