SteveinNY - 2009-08-21 3:33 PM I'm looking for a Hotel near race start.  I'm trying to find the name of hotel / Condo's that are on the beach with a view of the swim start.   Any recommendations ?

You have lots of options in that area, but besides the host hotel, I think the Shores of Panama is the closest and there are lots of BTers staying there.  Check VRBO and you will get a great list of options in the Long Beach area.

11 weeks from right now the gun will be going off for the pro start!

Happy Saturday everyone.  Had a great 18 miler yesterday followed by a enormous meal at The Melting Pot for my wifes birthday.  I have been pretty good with the diet but it had to be done.

I was talking with the TRI-GODS yesterday and we were trying to come to a concensus.  Is 60 degrees with cloudy skys and no wind ok with everyone or should we make it 65?  Just let me know and I will make sure to pass along the requests.

Has anyone run a stand alone marathon shortly after an Ironman?  I was looking at doing the St. Judes marathon with my brother in Memphis.  It is exactly 1 month after IMFL and I think that would be enough time to recover but not too much to lose my fitness.  Does anyone have experience doing this?

Well I am off to work.  Enjoy those miles today!

Great run! I think an 18 miler will be my longest run in training. Today it's gonna be more around 14 or so...Listen, I don't wanna seem picky or anything but if you're talkin' to the tri gods, a flat Gulf would be appreciated along with mostly overcast 65ish - 70...That's comfy for me and more comfy for the spectators

Is this thing really only 11 weeks away??????? Today is a "I can't believe I got myself into this" kinda day.  I've been going to sleep at embarrasingly early times - before my 3 and 4 yr. old the other night.. felt great the next day.  All the Rocky Road ice cream is gone and Im trying to focus on eating better. Lotsa fruit and veggies but that's a tricky balance to create while having to run long distances. I've found many routes with many toilets along the way! Happy training everyone!

I'm with Kristin on the flat gulf.  At gulf coast this year it was a washing machine..and that really isn't how I want to start out my (hopefully) long day.  I'll go along with overcast and 65 as well.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.
train safe and have fun

I had a race and nice long training weekend on the schedule for the day. I've been feeling really run down and sick the last few days. Skipped the race today which ended up being a good idea. Especially since going to Walmart for groceries wore me out.  Pretty sad when you have to come home and nap after going to the grocery store. Being sick wasnt in the plans for the weekend.

Taking a "forced" rest due to a nagging hip pain over the past week, have to say sleeping more than 5-6 hours 2 days in a row was NICE! Clearly, my body is tired - hopefully this little mini-break will help out a bit. Happy Training everyone!

I took my break last week with a nagging shin pain and a bike needing repair. Now going strong, taking a little time off my legs seem to make a big difference. Feeling a lot stronger. Had a nice 85 mile bike ride in the rain/sun/rain/sun/then a lot of rain, then a short 20min run. Boy I love the Florida weather!!

My long run is done for the day. Finally starting to feel like myself again. I'm going to try and get in the long ride that I missed yesterday.

Weekend training done! I "only" had a 70 mile ride yesterday. I'm pretty pumped that 70 miles seems easy right now.  I was supposed to do 2500 straight of swimming, but only got to 1800 before dumb lightening shut down the pool. I've been plagued by that lately.  That's okay though, earlier this week I had a "4000" swim scheduled, I did the set, and thought "good grief, I was slow for it overall" and then added it up and it was 4700!!! Oh well, good solid swim!!
Had a 16 miler this morning and felt totally solid.  Not to mention yesterday and today we had some COOL (say it isn't so!) breezes in the morning!

Next week is the Hotter than Hell 100 in Wichita Falls, TX...I won't mind if it doesn't live up to its name!

Completed my longest run ever today 17.5 miles. It was cooler and less humid than usual, so I was able to run a faster pace. I saw a group of 40 riders from Tallahassee yesterday on the course. Must have been fun riding in that large of a peleton.

5 hour solid bike yesterday...today was a swim with a 500 TT, 4 hour bike and supposed to be an hour run...got 42 minutes of it and had to stop.  Lost 6# of fluid yesterday and at least that much today...and I drank ALOT!!!!  Gonna work on those issues this week.  Though it was rough today, I feel like it was good mental training and I learned a bit about problem solving on the fly...it's all good   I'm going to enjoy the rest day tomorrow!

Glad to see everyone is having some good days...and hopefully learning from the bad!  Have a great week everyone

Did a 56 mile bike and 4 mile brick run Saturday/ folowed by a 13 miler on sunday during this cutback week.

I had a full Ironman swim for Fridy night and mentally couldn't get it done. I did 50 yards stop, 50 yards stop, 100 stop, 600 stop for good...and got out of the pool. DOn't know if it was my long 10 hour work day or what...but I just couldn't get myself to continue in that pool for some reason.

Just coming off a good weekend of training. 80 mile ride on Saturday, 18 mile run Sunday, and 2 mile swim today. Things are coming along well.

Anyone know if we are going to be able to get practice swims on the course the week prior to the race?

Getting nervous and excited at the same time. Hope everyone stays healthy and happy.

Sounds like lots of great work everyone! Keep it up!! I don't know about you, but somehow it seems the more intense training gets, the more intense my work life gets too--craziness!!  BUT, yes, to the question above, I have a couple of races I'm excited about between now and IMFL...but of course it's all from a training perspective!

This weekend I'm doing the Hotter than Hell Hundred in Wichita Falls, TX, not a race, but should be a good ride!
I'm doing the Austin Olympic Tri on 7 Sept, the Redman 1/2 Iron on 19 Sept, the Army 10 Miler on 4 October, and the swim leg as a relay member for the Longhorn 70.3 on 25 October. I hope the adrenaline pieces will make it easier to get to 7 Nov!
