jenna1870 - 2010-01-13 3:51 PM So I've learned there's nothing quite as immediately effective for getting over (or succumbing to, depending on your POV) self-consciousness in a bathing suit than having to haul yourself out of the pool and walk the length of it to the locker room in front of the tanned and taut swim team, waiting for practice.

At least I learned the fear of a crowd wasn't enough to derail getting in every possible lap, either that or my self-preservation instinct to delay the humiliation. Either or.

On a positive note, in trying to get every possible lap in before the 3pm cut-off, because I was late I did all my laps consecutively without breaks - and it was only 100 meters less than my race distance.

Go Jenna Go!

Thanks for the advice. I checked out that article and its funny if you watch the demo for the karate kid. I can just picture myself in the gym doing that and the interesting looks I'd get!

You guys notice that I have two stars next to my name now?  lol.  This makes me happy.

TGIF.  I have a relatively relaxed weekend.  Girls 'scary movie night' tonight.  Shopping and lunch tomorrow.  I believe I've got full mornings of exercise though, and am still working on my 4 laps goal...

I will *Definitely* get out and ride tomorrow! Maybe a run Sunday morning; need to go to a funeral in the afternoon. Maybe see Avatar on Monday?

oH!  That's why there was no traffic today...Monday is a holiday, huh?  I saw Avatar last weekend and it was pretty good; the visuals are spectacular - I was particulary fond of the flora on that planet.

I don't get Monday off Construction doesn't sleep. But it is finally warm enough outside so I might go to the zoo this weekend and probably the dogpark! I got a walk/run Saturday and biking on Sunday!

Have a great weekend all!

Oh - 'scary movie night'.  I cannot watch scary movies.  Total chicken when it comes to that.  Hope you have fun though.

I don't have anything special going on this weekend.  Just the usual things with the kids.  DH is off on Monday, so at least we'll have an extra weekend day.

I just ran my longest run ever - 7 miles.  I did it on the treadmill too since the weather is rainy.  It wasn't too bad although the treadmill was rather boring.  Some of our treadmills at the gym have tv's, and that would help with the boredom, but I can't watch a tv bouncing up and down with the treadmill.  It makes me motion sick.

Have a good weekend everyone!

I'm getting ready to head out for a ride on my tri bike. My target is 30 miles but since I've spent so little time on this bike the last few months I'll have to see if I can hold an aero position that long.

I ended up doing 26.75 miles; I'm not quite in outdoor riding form

So I'm really bummed out right now. The race that I was planning to do as my 1st tri ever is already closed! I was scheduled to do it on 6/6/2010 and am pretty upset about it. Guess I'll have to look for another one...just can't lose momentum

Not too far off and it's still pretty early in the year!  Don't be too hard on yourself.

Awww...that sucks!  I'm sorry to hear that.  Hope you can find another one around the same time.

With tris gaining popularity, some of them fill up really early!

That really sucks, I know how much registering gives a nice big scary exciting target to shoot for - I hope you find something else to race for!

OK... I'm back. I got wrapped up in Holidays, skiing, eating, and feeling crappy...so now I am ready. I am trying to decide if I need to become a paying member and what plan I should do. Tomorrow I start my diet and training.

Well, the advantage to being a paying member is that there are more training plans available to you and that you have more options for logging your training.  For instance, if you use a Garmin, you can download workouts directly from it to your training log.  I would check out the available training plans.  If one of them is interesting to you, it's probably worth becoming a member to get the plan.

Good to see you back!!

I've not yet taken advantage of the training plans, but being able to upload directly from my Garmin is great. Beyond that, I rely upon BT for keeping all my logs, etc, so I feel it only right that I pay for all I get.

Had a great workout today at the gym (other than running into my boss, but that wasn't THAT bad). And although I know the calorie counters on machines are notoriously faulty, I can't help enjoy the fact that the Nordic Track treadmill had to "roll over" on the calories, when I pushed the inclines on my 60 minute walk and it went past 1000 and can only display 3 digits. FINALLY got up a good healthy sweat and pushed hard.

I definitely work harder at the gym than at home, I may have to suck up the cost and join.

Way to go!  I'm going to see if there's any machines at my gym that I can "break"!  lol...that's probably actually very satisfying...
