I am doing the same as others. I have a room at the Super 8 Coeur D'Alene but we are not sure if we dare take the kids. Originally we planned just me and the wife but my inlaws came to IMWI last week and loved it. My mother in law would love to go to Seattle so I guess I wouldn't be shocked if it is a giant family trip out there. In that case we would need a larger place or two rooms.

beanmj - 2010-09-19 10:22 PM 10 weeks until official training, but less than a month to ski season. Gotta try to get enough mountain biking in before things get too busy.As far as weight goes, I'm at 168 and single digit body fat. Last saw my parents a couple weeks ago and my mom expressed concern about my weight; the gf is saying I'm too thin, and creepily obsessed with tracking my caloric and exercise levels. I must be getting close.

If you will be skiing in 1 month, I will not be pleased!!  I have been jones'ing to go skiing since about June (Last day I went was 5/30).

That will be the interesting thing, is balancing the skiing with the long workouts.

Who here is interested in participating in Jorge's winter cycling program?  I NEED to actually ride my trainer this winter, and I find that competing with others / holding each other accountable helps a great deal.

I've done Jorge's plan in the past and will vouch for it.  I plan to use parts of it this winter as well.

I intend to work some of it in too. Depending on when he gets it going, I am starting back this week and plan to do the 20 week marathon program starting next Monday. Not sure how it will all mix together.

If it's a full month from now, I'll be disappointed. I'm hoping to work out 4-10s at work this winter, which will make skiing and getting in other workouts MUCH easier, especially since I have no qualms about going to bed at 8 to wake up for a 4:30am swim workout.

I much prefer to ride outside but could sign on for a 12-week round of bike training.

I sent out about a dozen inquiries to various VRBO owners a towards the end of august.   I've since secured a house near the start/finish.  I thought I would pass on these listings that responded to me that they were still vacant.  I can't vouch for pricing, quality, or availability.
FYI...was searching for a lodging that would house two families.  So it might be a bit bigger than some would like.  Hopefully, will save someone a little work.

I started Jorge's plan last week with the testing, and did the first workout based on the results today, so I think that puts me in week 3. I'm trying to fit it in between my last tri of the year on 9/12, and starting the 30 week Ironfit intermediate at the end of November. I end up having to blend the two plans together for three weeks or so in December. My first FTP came out at 208 based on the 20 minute and 5 minute tests. I was hoping for higher, but I was pretty well spent after the 20 minutes and think that's all I have right now after starting all this back in February.

Did my first trainer computrainer session on the Real Course Video of IMCDA today. Just a nice 40 min ride doing the first out and back section. I am gonna track how many times I ride that course between now and June 26. Hopefully I will know it like the back of my hand by then and feel like I know it seeing my first ever trip to Idaho will be for race weekend.

I assume the Computrainer course is pretty accurate.  My recommendation: get familiar with the Hayden portion of the course (the north part).  That's where the hills are, and that's where some of the tricky / unsafe parts occur.

spudone - 2010-09-16 5:14 PM Lake Stevens is almost nonstop adrenaline on the bike.  CdA is a bit more peaceful... you can almost get into a meditative zone in some parts... and then the spectators wake you up (they are awesome!)..  Take the hilliness of Lake Stevens and insert some long flat stretches and you basically have the CdA course.

Hmmm.. sounds fun! I have a Computrainer so I think I'm going to buy the real course video of this course.  I don't think I'll make it out there before the race so this will have to do  How is the run? Is it similar to Lake Stevens as well (little rollers throughout)?

I would say CDA run course is really similar to Lk Stevens in the slight to moderately long inclines and rollers. It even has an up/down part near the lake that you do twice like Lk Stevens. There is spectator support over a good amount of the run course.

Yeah its accurate, they filmed it in 07 which I think was the first year of the new course. Definately I will be riding that portion a ton. Everyone says its good to know the technical portion,

What do you mean by tricky/unsafe? Lot of turns? Steep descents?  I guess I can just find out when I get the course video, but could I get some input?

I find the CT courses very accurate.  My race times on the CT compared to the actual thing are usually very similar.

Dang it, that was the worse part Thanks for the input. I can't wait to start training for this course.

The one that particularly caught me off guard was, fortunately, marked with orange chalk SLOW on the road.  But I still thought I was going to skid.

You work up over one of the hills and then start picking up speed down the other side.  It then dips even more as you go into the trees / deep shade.  Then it starts turning right but your eyes are adjusting and it's not obvious that it's actually a 180 degree switchback, and not banked very well.

I was braking because of the SLOW warning - AND I drove the course prior to racing, and found that I still wasn't going slow enough.  Wish I could help you out by remembering what mile it was.

Edit: ahha.  I knew I'd discussed this earlier in this thread - just had to find the page :)

It is on English Point Road, downhill curve, 180 degrees, decreasing radius, no banking.

That turn is pretty steep and very abrupt.  They did a good job of marking it last year though.  I rode it the day before the race, and I definitely would say that when they say 'SLOW', they are not lying!

Lake steven's doesn't have much for sketchy turns, I was always more worried about a car turning out. . or like a BT'er that hit a dog on one of the descents in 2009. . luckily, he was mostly OK.

I think I will make a point of when I get to town to at least go out and ride that section a couple days before the race.

tribean - Would love to get your take on the real rides video (quality, professionalism, accuracy, etc...).  I used a Troy JacobsonSpinervals video for IMLP and it really helped, just curious on your take of the professional quality of the real rides one.

PS - Assuming Tribean tells us the course video is good, I say GREAT investment. Even if you live in a climate you can ride outside year round, having it to virtually ride/watch the course (even if you just watching it while sipping a cold one) is absolutelly invaluable.  And, it is only $30!  I own the IMLP video (in fact, I think I will ride it this weekend) and to this day I can talk about that course as if I lived on it.  Helps with that "visualization" thing "they" keep talking about.

For those with computrainers... I bow to you and can only dream...

I can vouch that the quality of the Computrainer RCVs are good quality (not HD, but it looks decent).  I often hook it up to my 46" LCD TV and the picture looks good.  I own IMAZ, IM St. George, Kona, and IMLP videos and they are all good quality.  It has been really helpful for my IM Arizona training because, even though I live just minutes of the course, I can really dial in my HR, power, etc. while riding the the AZ course on the CT.   As gremlin327 stated it also helps with the visualization aspect.  I just ordered CDA, so I'll give my review of this shortly

I don’t have a trainer yet but I have watched one of the DVDs and was pretty impressed.  What stinks is I don’t have anything to compare the video to.  The best part about the video is it gives me an idea what to expect.   The quality seems ok but again I don’t have anything to compare it to.  It comes with two DVDs one is 1:38 and the other is 1:08.  If you have some spare change hanging around and can’t ride the course I would recommend getting it.
