colesdad - 2010-10-26 9:38 AM Snow! It's going to be 80 degrees here today. Does anybody know of a good online place to buy some winter running stuff? Mostly gloves and tights I think.

You call 80 degrees winter?
I haven't bought any running stuff online. I don't need much for gloves when running. I picked up a thin pair of basic gloves for a couple of bucks at Walmart that work fine for me. They aren't quite enough for riding in the winter though. I just use some basic athletic pants over my running shorts in cold weather and they have been fine. Its hard for me to spend the extra money when what I have works fine.

have to agree on the running part.  I bought an ASICS jacket for running and have worn it 1 or 2 times I think and that was snowshoeing to keep the snow off of my back from the kick motion.

You are going to overheat pretty quick on the run.  A basic hat and gloves will work down to temps where it probably isn't safe to run anyways.

Biking - whole different story because of natural wind chill effect.

Just a hat and gloves?

Yeppers and you will have to venture down the QEW to verify that if interested!

I have a ****sock as well for added protection and that way I don't get arrested for lewdness!

It would also prevent penile frost bite and deter stray dogs

THis part of the conversation amuses me  Tongue out

I know someone who did a naked 5K race... yep - nothing but a heart rate monitor. I even think the numbers were markered.. But that was in Texas so a little warmer.

Sat June 11 - Woodstock Ontario: 600m swim, 20km bike, 4km run

Sun July 24 - Bala Falls: 750m swim, 30km bike, 7,5km run

Sun Sept 18 - Lakeside: 1500m swim, 40km bike, 10km run

I want to plan next season.....but I need to know that this *fun* is behind me before I plot my revenge on my uncooperative body.

I need to finish this season (half mary in a few weeks) and then I want to have a bit of fun (no structured training) for a while. Before thinking of next year - is that bad?

The dresses are floor length... the shoes won't get seen.

I don't wear anything but black shoes and will probably never wear the silver shoes again. Frown

Live it up - get silver shoes!!! Did you say what colour the dresses are? I can't remember....

Bubble gum pink

You don't sound overly happy, pink is not really my colour....

Oh, edit that, I see you have already kind of answered that.

Pink isn't my colour either, but it might be fun for one day.

Will we get to see photos? Although sadly the challenge will be over

Goodnight!

The wedding is in July - so there won't be any photos for awhile. I'm looking to add some friends to my BT list though, so if you (or any other Ghoulie Crushers) want to stay in touch just let me know.

Would love to stay in touch

That's a good idea. Hopefully you'll be up and running for next season.

Since I keep mind changing I only made the annual plan up until the June 11 race.

I am pretty sure I'm way ahead of myself, so don't worry!

Oh, I have a half mary on March 6 that I didn't put on that post.

How is your training coming?

I love watching storms! I was driving  listening to the theme song from Mortal Kombat when there was a tornado warning with heavy rain and the sky looked absolutely wicked. It was a crazy green colour and the cloud movement pattern looked amazing. (I didn't know there was a tornado warning when driving in this...)

I am embarrassed to come on here and post. I need to apologize...I joined this challenge with every intention of blowing away the competition. Then after doing the Breast Cancer Awareness bike ride on Oct. 9 I started feeling like I was coming down with something...sore throat, weakness and all that. I couldn't find the strength to workout and I didn't want to push myself and really get sick. So...while I wasn't on my death bed, I didn't feel up to doing all the workouts I had planned and my numbers are very low.

But...I'm back in the saddle and feeling good. I ran and got in a swim yesterday, ran today and will have no problem reaching my swim goal. I'm feeling really motivated (had a little help with that) and plan to do some running every day for the rest of the month. The problem with that is the best I can do is 80% on the run.  Or is there allowance for altering one's goals due to illness?

training so far is good. Did 9 miles (part in the rain) on Saturday. Never thought I would run 9 miles straight. I extended the Hal Higdon plan out to a long run of 12 weeks the week before the mary. I think he stops at 10 and I was like I can't wing an additional 3 miles. If I get to 12 the week before - two short runs and then the Half I hopefully will be good. The rumor is the first 1.5 miles all uphill but then that is pretty  much it. Not sure I like that or not.

Crazy green color is a sign of a tornado is near... Watch that - those are bad news... I should know I live in Oklahoma - welcome to the tornado belt... Had one touch down briefly across the road in front of our house in May and cause things to blow around but no damage to pick up and go down the road 1.5 miles and destroy (I mean level) homes.

Yes, there is a rule I think it may be in volume 2 of the thread.  It is based on the % of the month you were ill and % left of the month.  Yanti knows the exact rules.
Glad you are feeling better.

This is true - I also LOVE storms and curling up indoors - just as long as a) there are no power cuts and b) they aren't interfering with my training!

Yeah it is nuts outside here today. I just got back from a run in 40-50 mph gusts. It would stand me straight up and bring me to a near stop. But I got my run in and them Ghoulies will pay!
