What do they do with wetsuits from T1? I have my name already on mine, but do we need to label them so that they are transported along with our other gear from T1?

Rottie is right---at least for us in '09.  Of course that was on Sat...  I did hear from coming on the awards cruise on Sun that if you were looking for stuff it probably was in a big pile---waiting to get loaded on a truck to take to a shelter/Goodwill since you were supposed to claim it on Sat....

Again it's part of the "magic."  You exit the water, get wetsuit stripped, run to T1, grab YOUR T1 bag of bike stuff, enter changing tent, DUMP bike stuff out of T1 bag, put ALL swim stuff/stuff you don't want for bike INTO T1 bag, drop bag at exit of changing tent and grab your bike for a nice ride....fast forward to the end of the day---cross finish line, go to bike rack near finish--find bike with T1/T2 bags there (so wetsuit, etc are in T1 bag and whatever from bike is now in T2 bag)...oh yeah along with your prerace bag--which for me, like Rottie, was the only warm clothing I had and I needed it especially since I didn't have anyone at the race with me!!

The T1 volunteers will take your bag from you after you stuff it with your wetsuit, goggles, anything else you changed out of...Having your name on your wetsuit is a good idea..It's not inconceivable for bags to open up in transport and to the layperson, those wetsuits look alike.

OK, time to begin to organize a group swim of the second half of the full course.  We will start at 7:30 AM on Friday (day before the race) across the road from the Blockade Runner.  We will swim the course to the finish ladders, get out, and walk to T1 area.  We did this in 2009 and it was a great confidence booster.

Who's in?

I did the half last year, and did a practice swim on Friday.  Watch out for big boats!  The channel's not closed and they can come up on you quickly!

10 day weather projection.... 40% chance of showers... all day and night.

yay. At least I won't overheat.

I know it's still 9 days out and the forecast will most likely change by the 29th, but rainy all day would really suck.

All my races this years had a forecast for showers...

guess what I was praying for while running in the mid 80s...

SHOWERS!!!!!!

Obviously not a single drop hit the ground :/

good news is that at least its no in the 30's that a.m..  think its near 50 for the low and low 70's for the high, pretty good moderate range for racing.

Any good strategies for managing the bike aid stations?

What is the best approach?

I plan to carry my nutrition and get water at the aid stations.

They will have people holding out bottles for you to grab.  Slow down to 10-15 mph, pull to the side and grab the bottle.  You can also drop any trash (empty bottles, wrappers, etc.) at the aid stations.

Thanks and great pic.
It just seems tricky. I've never had to use the bike aid stations before, always carrying enough of my own water or nutrition. But this is my first full, so I know I will need to use them.

Have folks gotten the athlete's book yet in the mail?

Any more news about the on-line tracking/updates for the race?

Ditto the athlete tracking since I'll be alone out there and family wants to track remotely.

BTW, where are the bib #'s up?

thx. i was looking at the PPD B2B site.  didn't think to look at Setup.  I'm 690.  Guess they are based on order of entry as I waited to close to the end to sign up.

I'm 1020 and signed up in May. Numbers might be based upon wave group/ age. I'm in the 70.3 and going off in one of the later waves.

on second thought... maybe they did do entry date and the 1000's are all 70.3ers.

Bib # 708 for me.

I did my first HIM with aid stations this past spring, and did one exchange on the first lap. I thought I was hot stuff, and on the second lap I didn't slow down as much. Somehow either the volunteer held onto the bottle too long or I turned my body too much to the right, but the next thing I knew I was on the ground. I had some serious road rash on my left forearm and shoulder, and a nasty contusion on my left hip that negatively affected my running quite a bit later in the race.  I actually ended up winning my AG, but my lesson was learned - SLOW DOWN for bottle exchanges!!!

I'm in for Thursday. I get in late Wednesday, so hopefully I can drag myself down there in time. Think I will walk from where I'm staying which is less than 1/2 mile according to google maps.
