You know you are training for an Ironman when "only" a 2,200 meter swim for 45 minutes sounds easy and fun!

I agree.  < 2500 is a short workout now.

Aside from putting together some group rides for the N.TX crowd - is anyone doing the 70.3 in the Woodlands?

Do you mean Galveston? The Woodlands doesn't have a 70.3.

IMTX will be my first IM. Can't pass it up since it's right in my backyard, literally!

Week one of training went well. I'm a little disappointed my base isn't where is I would like it to be starting out. I was sick and injured part of Nov and all of Dec. So I feel like I'm starting all over, but I'm sticking to the training plan, so far, so good.

I hope it was a good training weekend for everyone, it's going to be quite a journey!

I wasn't a good triathlete this morning. Alarm went off at 5:15 AM. Hit snooze till 5:35 AM. Went downstairs. Drank a little bit of Monster. Went into bathroom. Felt exhausted. Wanted to just lay down on the bathroom floor and sleep. Went back upstairs, got into bed and slept until 7:00 AM. One hour and 15 minute swim - missed.

Yes, we do need to organize some rides together! Maybe I can organize a ride that starts in Dallas and you can plan one for Ft. Worth. On different weekends, but that way we cover both sides of the metroplex.

I'm not doing Galveston. While it is perfect timing for a "big day", I can't use anymore vacation days, and I don't want to pay for a hotel or gas.

My boyfriend is sick. I'm terrified of getting sick again! I was down for 12 days in December due to illness. And when I take two weeks off running, it takes me another two weeks to get my HR back to normal for the pace I'm running. Ugh.

Keep training! It will come back!

I hear you (and others) on the sickness factor. Lately it seems that everyone I know and have contact with has had strep throat. I have been living in constant paranoia. I volunteer a lot with youth and our homeless population so I am fairly used to exposure, but the strep thing terrifies me because it always will put you out for 1-2 weeks to fully recover. I have washed my hands like I committed a crime lately - every chance I get. I've been loading on these vitamin tabs that dissolve into your water that my wife buys for me in Germany (flight attendant).

Oddly, I have found over the years that the more consistent I stay in training/exercising the less likely I am to get sick (provided I am eating enough/well). So, I try to break a big sweat at least once a day - six days a week. Seems like it flushes my system. Of course, it's probably just in my head - but, hey! it's great motivation

NOW...knocking on wood!

I am ready for another week to the grinder.  I have had 2 good weeks only because my wife wants me to beat last years time.

I have been using trainrroad.com for my trainer work outs for the past week.  I look forward to doing trainer workouts because I have a number to chase instead of just hitting zones.  I even had a 3hr trainer ride Saturday with perfect weather because I wanted a challenging ride and boy was it brutal.  This week I may buy a suffest video that is linked up to the website to get some good workouts in.

I still need to swim more, but it is feeling a little better.

I am doing Galveston as well. I enjoyed it last year and it does fit into the training schedule pretty well. Nice to knock the cob webs off of transitions and racing a month out from IMTX.

So far, no missed training sessions here. 2 weeks in and all is going as planned. I have a 10 mile run scheduled for this afternoon. Lots of changes to my plan this year as opposed to last year. its a littel too early to tell how it will all pan out, but it feels right so far.

As for the sickees, hopefully it has run the course through my house without getting me. Both the wife and squid had boughts of respiratory infections the last couple of weeks, but now both are fine. I made sure and scrubbed EVEYTHING in the house!

It is worth every bit of the 10.00 they charge a month.  My understanding is right now, instead of custom workouts, they have a free ride.  A free ride basicaly gives a 0 for the target power and allows you to ride as you feel.  People who have custom plans do these and ride as thier plan is written.

Had a great first week without missing a workout and then last week kept one of the kiddo's home with me most of the week because he was sick. Only got in 4 workouts last week but had a great time hanging out with the little one. Started off this week with 3000 in the pool this morning after a long night at work and now headed out for a 1 hr run in just a little while. My wife is already saying this is the only IM that I will be doing for a long time so I have to make this one count!

I tried it out last night and it is awesome! I normally struggle through an hour on the trainer, but the session last night flew by.

I am using power, but I glance at HR and make a mental note. I found watching the power number keeps me from over cooking trying to get my HR up real fast during an interval.

I'm using power also. I haven't looked into it but, there is an option to calculate power based on your trainer. I don't think it will be acurate, but it could give you data points to track improvement.

Watching the graph of my actual power output vs planned will hopefully help me keep constant efforts. It's much easier for me to watch a graph instead of checking my 3s and 30s averages every couple minutes.

Hello everyone. Just thought I would check in as i have not posted in a while. Last week was a little lite on the training as I was getting ready for the Houston Marathon. I did the half and suprised myself by how well I did. going in I hadn't run longer than about 7 miles. I was able to finish the half in about 2:10.

I don't know the exact time because they screwed up my bib numbers. I had originally signed up for the full but as the race approached I didn't feel like my training was there so I switched to the half. Appantently they gave me the wrong bib and the bib number I wore was not activated.

I remember the first mile gun time being 25 minutes and finishing at 2:25. I was in the 10.5 minute group so that is how i figure I ran 2:10 plus or minus. it dosn't bother me much but Zi do think they should give me a refund on the $40 they charged me to switch races.

Anywa, no running ofr me this week. Got masters swim tonight and thursday and Spin classes Wensday and friday with a bike ride Sunday.

Have a great training day everyone!

Nice job on the half, that race is on my to do list someday. Still hard to get a spot? I have heard it sells out super fast.

Has anyone ridden the course on a Friday? Could you tell if there was more traffic than what you would see on a Saturday? I'll probably start riding the north section on Friday mornings and I don't want to run into too much traffic. Also, any ideas on where I could park? I'm guessing my usual spot at the montgomery high school wont work.

Thanks

I never rode up there during the week so I can't help you there. We always parked at the Wal-mart just down the road. We never had any problems. Here a link;

You could also park by the store in Montgomery.  There is a little candy store in the strip center there that sells pickel juice snow cones.   Also, the historic district in Montgomery would be good.  People are always antique shopping around.  I do not hear of any crime, but I would still move my parking around a little.
