Had a great training week up in Flagstaff, Az! So nice to get out of the oppressive Phoenix heat and ride and run at altitude.  Hope everyone is doing well as we all ramp up the training!

I did the same, only I'm in a cabin in Overgaard. Celebrated the cool temps with a 4-hour ride this morning, which kinda kicked my butt! I just registered for the Deuces HIM in Sept, so I got a taste of what the course will be like. I also got in a little OWS yesterday in a chilly lake. From where I am in PHX, it's an hour drive to any lake I can swim in, so I have to take every opportunity and just jump in between the trout fishermen if that's what it takes!

Training is starting to ramp up and I can't stop eating.  All I do is train, eat, sleep.  Well, there is some family time and work in there too, but those are starting to get in the way of my eating.  I'm really in trouble as the training load really picks up.  I actually do ok during the week, when work distracts me some, but the weekend is starting to get ridiculous.  Going to have to manage that somehow.

On Saturday I did a 4:30 ride and got 70 miles in. The last 20 miles or so, I was having to stop every 15 minutes to stretch my lower back and legs. It seemed like a nonstop burn. I guess this is what training is all about!! Rest day for me today (body told me so).

Hope everyone has a safe and healthy week.

brooksinc1976 - 2012-07-30 12:44 PM Good weekend except I think wahoo products suck. My iPhone crapped out due to my sweat. The houston humidity has been fun. 30 min into my run last night and I was ringing out my shirt, literally

My last two runs were at a temp of 110 and 113 degrees with 60%+ humidity so I don't think i would be complaining lol.

Training is going well here.  I did a HIM a few weeks ago somewhat on a whim, and took over an hour off my first HIM time.  And that was without any kind of proper taper, I just trained right up to it and was asked to come do it the day before.  Good times!  I have another HIM at the end of this month that I have been planning and I'm hoping to get in under 6 hours.  The heat has not been kind though, it's hard to get out for long rides.  Today was 56 miles and I must have lost 10 pounds of sweat.  I gotta start getting up earlier...

Training is going ok for me.  I'm comfortable with where I am at in the training at this point, but I know going forward it's going to get tough fitting it all in.  My July bike and swim were not where I would like, but that's because I was out for a week on a mission trip and could only get in runs.  Then the pool where I swim was closed for a week and a half.  August is a new month, but will bring it's own challenges with my son starting back to soccer and school starting in a few weeks.  I see some 4am runs in my near future.

Monthly totals for July were not super impressive, but actually within range of what my training plan called for this far out from the race.

Bike:15h 24m 48s  - 266.8 Mi
Run:12h 01m 11s  - 68.24 Mi
Swim:8h 15m 17s  - 31562 Yd
Hockey:5h 30m

I'm hoping to keep building the run mileage.  My totals for running have never been great, but I'm finally slowing down and training at a pace that is allowing me more mileage without injury.  I'm hoping for my first 100 mile month soon, maybe September!  And shooting for a 500 mile bike month sometime soon too.

July's totals:
Bike:36h 06m  - 636.68 Mi
Run:12h 59m 36s  - 84.97 Mi
Swim:8h 43m 52s  - 25392.4 Yd
Really happy with my bike and swim totals for the month.  Bike did benefit from an extra Sunday in the month (extra long ride) and replacing one long run with a long bike due to some Achilles issues.  Run suffered due to said Achilles issues too.  Took a week off, ran today for first time in over a week.  Hopefully, it continues to improve. August/September/October is going to go really fast I think.

Run:13h 14m 59s  - 74.18 Mi

Sometimes it feels like I'm training a lot and sometimes it feels like I'm not training enough Mostly I'm trying to be consistent and keep the injuries away. One more week and I'm at week 15/30 of my truing plan. Halfway through!

So far, so good here. Slacked a little on the swim this month- mostly because I hate it- and being conservative with the running to rehab some injuries, but it's coming along.

Monthly totals & Avgs:Bike: 329.12 Mi - 23h 39m 27s

Run: 74.65 Mi - 12h 13m 24s

Swim: 29632.43 Yd - 12h 20m 32s

July's totals:
Bike:25h 44m 09s  - 463.94 Mi
Run:7h 39m 38s  - 51.16 Mi
Swim:1h 55m 24s  - 6000 M

I feel like I'm doing OK in mileage, just haven't been swimming nearly enough.  I've been feeling nauseous while swimming lately, I've never had any trouble swimming so this is a new problem for me. Got some earplugs, hoping that will help.

I know I'm fine...

I have never been one to post/look at numbers.  I can't help but to compaire and either feel inadequate or superior based on some random numbers put in a post.

So now I don't even check mine against them and just happy that everyone is getting out there!

Exactly what I was just thinking I know August will be better on the bike (missed several rides due to weather and illness), but I'm still not feeling the swim and I honestly have zero excuse for not getting in the pool more often or swimming more when I do go. I'm still way ahead of where I was for IMTX so I'm not concerned yet.

Swim start question:  I'm shooting for a fast swim time, around an hour maybe just over, so I'm planning on lining up somewhere in the first 3 rows.  I'm assuming that means I'll want to be getting in the water earlier rather than later to secure my spot near the front.  How far ahead of the start time will I want to jump in, and how long am I going to have to tread water for?  I have this idea in my head that I'm going to waste energy treading water for 15 minutes before the cannon goes off, with my wetsuit on is this not really a concern since I can almost float with no effort?

Get in as early as you can.  Last year so many people were taking their time getting in due to the cold water that people were still on the dock when the cannon went off.  I was still swimming to the race start when it went off.  The effort you spend in a full suit will be minimal at best.

Your wetsuit will allow to you just bob around.  Or you can try to find space to grab onto a kayak.
