Melanie - I've always wanted to go to Australia...I'm saving $$, but haven't pulled the trigger yet. How's the weather down there? I'm 24, single, with no man in the picture. I keep telling myself that I must finish my Master's degree before I get married.

Kate - welcome to our little group! What is a 5a climbing course? Maybe you can help me with the swimming...I have no desire to get in the pool and swim laps, but when I swim in the pool I do fine...but the open-water swim is a whole different story.

Marcin - I'm jealous..what a gorgeous picture! We don't have too many castles in the US...but I do live in an area filled with bluffs, valleys, and the Mississippi river.

Hey Everyone,

Kate welcome we can help keep you motivated along the way.  How about in your logs you tell us what you plan to do and we can check back in and see if you did actually get it done and help keep ya honest     I find it works for me.  I really needed a bit of motivation to get in the pool on Mon and got a kick in the pants via my inspires on the logs and headed down to the pool!  it works

Marcin - wow that castle looks amazing,  what a fantastic place to do a race.  are those distances in km's or miles.  I always get so confused on this site as to how uses what measurements (we use metric downunder)

Nora- Aust is a fantastic place to come for a visit I highly recommend it.  the weather is not so great at the moment as we are heading into winter.  but for me not so great is probably a very mild winter compared to some parts of the US and where chris is from.  its roughly 5C in the overnight and today its a sunny 21C but its chilly.

if you do head on downunder make sure you head over to the West coast where I live,  most people bypass the west coast and see Sydney Brisbane Melb etc.  But there is some absolutely amazing coastline over this side of the country that shouldn't be missed

Oh and Marcin if you need any tips with your open water swimming just let me know,  that is one part of tri's that I am actually good at!

very confident open water swimmer.  Swimming in a wetsuit is pretty different to swimming without one,  you'll float so much easier,  if you are not that confident a wetsuit will really help you in open water.  just have that little though in teh back of you head if I start to panic I can just float and the wetsuit will keep me afloat!

Ooooohhhhh... may I please join this group?

USERNAME: Midnightylily (My names Claire )

STORY: Got interested in tris a few months ago but have had a couple of drawbacks in my training, I remember you being one of the first people to say anything to me and to comment my log Origionally I played netball competitively, before moving onto ice hockey which is my sport of choice, but became interested in tri through a sport management paper which is part of my degree (studying the structure of Tri in NZ and the possiblity of a seperate national governing body for multisport). Although I am in this for fun I'm not really interested in coming in anywhere but the top 20 in my first race (March next year) I have plenty of time to train and I was relatively fit before my recent few sedentary months.

FAMILY STATUS: I'm 18 and live at home with my mum, single living in New Zealand.

CURRENT TRAINING: have just started walking again.. took a little to get used not not using any crutches at all, but am walking frequently again and starting to cycle a little. Am planning on learning to swim within the next month or two once exams are over.

2007-2008 Races : My first race will be around March next year, no definate date yet, its a womens triathlon, this years distances were 400m swim (maybe 300 cant remember), 10km bike and 3km run. Next year I also want to do the Auckland marathon and the round the bays fun run as well as at least one sprint distance race, I'm not sure about any other races yet... Would eventually like to do an iron man, just to prove to everyone and myself that I can, but I think about 5 years would be a good goal for me for that... just because I will be older, more financially able and more experienced.

Your dad is fantastic! Kicking your at 62! My dad is no longer with us but my uncle is well into his sixties and running marathons he is doing his first HIM this year (with me in Belgium).

Your season rocked despite your set backs! You are so going to do well at IM WA!

Hey Chris  my friend is doing the best she can be at themoment she still has another 3 years before tehy will say if she is clear or not.  But she is living the high life over your side of the world at the moment in Ireland.  I miss her!

yep I'm really proud of my dad,  It really makes me get out and train when I think hmm if ddad can do this at 62 what excuse have I got for not doing it!

your uncle sounds pretty amazing Chris I didn't realise he was that age when you mention what races you guys have done together!! thats impressive.  I find those people very inspiring and motivating!

Happy (late) Birthday!

This weekend I have done one ballet class, and then am going to cycle tonight... but tomorrow I'm coaching my peewee team, working and watching my own team play so its not leaving much time for working out... If I can I'm going to go for another cycle tomorrow night...

Weathers starting to pack in so my gym membership is a god send!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes - I had a great time and got lots of tri related pressies as well - new running pants and top, new bumbag/water carrier, shades for cycling and an aquasphere mask so I'll be trying them out today as Ive got a run and a swim planned for later.

Marcin - good luck with the Tri - looks like a lovely site.
Splerph - I'll try and write down my plan in my logs so you can all keep me on the straight and narrow.
Chris - I think I'll aim for 2 sessions for each in a week - that seems managable at the moment - especially if I combine some with the travel to work when the job allows.

Thanks for al your encouragement - it really helps.

Kate, first of all I wish you all the best

Yesterday I managed to finish my first triathlon! OWS was harder then I thought, but then I did better while biking and running. Level of competitors was very high as almost all the participants were members of sport triathlon clubs. I was last but one but at least I see exactly where I need to improve

Cheers

Marcin

Marcin - you are a TRIATHLETE!!! Way to go! I agree - the swim is hard...for me it's the hardest part of the race.

Anyway, YOU ROCK!
