Not looking like a wetsuit race. Yikes. River temps can change quickly. Air temps plus rain between now and then will all have an influence. Check again a day or two pre-race. But it does show that it could easily be a no-wetsuit race. |

Eagleman a few years ago it was 98 degrees and 100% humitidty for days on end before the race. Water was way to warm and they let people wear suits. Overheating and dangerous on a day like that. |

That too. Although, to give him credit, the RD at Philly was prepared to make it no wetsuits the year they ended up having to cancel it completely (they announced water temps were too high for wetsuits before they decided there was too much debris for any swim). |

You'll get a flavor for all of the times a racer come in/out of there and the finish line is very close. |

They will probably have to walk a long way to get there. We stay at a hotel downtown, so after the first year, we started taking my wife's bike along so she can bike back and forth. That seems to be one of the better ways to do it. |

Another option would be if you part out by the Ben Franklin Parkway near the Art Museum. Then you can take your time and walk down West River Drive towards the Tran area. Probably a longer walk for sure, less steep but more to look at. Depends of what you want to do and the people who you have with you. |

I see bib numbers at least as high as 26xxWished I had signed up for the elite wave now (not that I can compete with any of you up there). Stuck back in either Wave 8 or 9. Thinking of strapping a bullhorn on my bike with an "On Your Left!" recording on repeat. |

You can probably still reach out to Lars or Gretchen and get moved. I can't see why the would not do that. Glad I'll be off the course before the cahos starts. |

Extreme Veteran 398 Sea Isle City, NJ | Subject: RE: Philadelphia Insurance Triathlon - Olympic Race : Official Thread Each year that bike course gets more and more crowded. I took a bad spill going down Black Road in 2008 when I came around the corner and there were 15 people spread out across the road....nowhere to go but down. I am pretty much banking on this being non wetsuit. The race is a week away and we are in for another heat wave. Unless we get a major cooldown and rain late next week (which may cause problems in itself with the swim), the water will be near 80. 77 today on rivercast and we are getting 4 days of temps in the 90s this weekend. |

Damn...I'm hoping for 78! I did a training swim two nights ago in the pool with my wetsuit on and forgot how much of a difference it makes! Gliding through the water like an eel, and all that extra bouyancy. Although, it fit a little tighter. Do wetsuits shrink? Or am I just getting "bulky"? Rules stated you can wear a wetsuit if it's over the temp limit, up to 84 degrees, but you won't qualify for awards or national ranking. Not sure about you guys and gals, but I'm no L33tist. I'd rather have the easier swim... I guess it's a game-day decision. anything can happen with that river. |

I'm banking on a non-wetsuit swim as well. The age group elite wave goes off right after the pros and it's a stacked field this year. I'd like to put a good solid effort in without the suit on and gap a bunch of the runners in the pack. If it's even close to 78 on race day I am not going to wear mine. No point in overheating and starting the bike off in a bad way. Lets hope the course stays clear just long enough for me to get off of it... |

Extreme Veteran 398 Sea Isle City, NJ | Subject: RE: Philadelphia Insurance Triathlon - Olympic Race : Official Thread ^^^ Just don't let Matt Coleman's tattoos fool you into thinking he is going fast up in that elite wave! Just kidding. Good luck up there and you guys should be fine. I am stuck back in wave 11 this year with the age up rule. The bike will not be pretty. It will all be good as it is still a fun race. Not an A race for me (Lake Placid) so really just in there to get another race in and push some pace for a while. Are you doing Stone Harbor again this year? Great finish with you and Delmonte a couple of years ago. Good luck with your season. |

I don't think he's racing but who knows. Next up after Philly is Timberman if my body makes it that far! |

Member 52 Lehigh Valley | Subject: RE: Philadelphia Insurance Triathlon - Olympic Race : Official Thread gadzooks...I too will be in Timberman, really bummed right now as I will only be doing the swim and bike at Philly due to a fractured femur that has kept me from any running or biking for past 7 weeks. Did my first ride this week, 10 miles, still felt it in the leg. Planning on busting the swim and an easy ride, out of everyones way. My goal at start of season was to do Timberman under 5:30, not sure I will have enough training time left to be successful. |

It is what it is and your body will let you know when it's time to get back to work. Good luck. |
