I want to know when car makers will begin to use technology such as facial recognition or fingerprint recognition to allow access to cars

Doesn't apple have this already??

Couldn't you just get one of the magnetic keyholders and put an extra key in there? By far the cheapest option, but to each their own obviously.

Some people I run/swim with still do the old key on the tire routine

Yup, I have a Lincoln MKZ and do this all the time, as in every time I go to the gym.  I lock the keys, wallet, phone, and whatever else in the trunk of the car.

 

Easy peasy.

with the proximity fob have found 1 way to lock my fob in my car. Problem is your have your backup key with you. Its very hard to lock your keys in the car. Which is not all that bad. Just sucks for swimming, biking and running. keypad sounds awesome for swimming. I am jealous now.

Other trouble with them is if someone breaks into your car they can drive away with it without having to know where the fob is. Even trying to hide it in the truck will start the car up.

I am sure you're all dying to know that I did buy the Ford Escape. I got it last August (seriously, after wanting it for 2 years) and it's GREAT!    I love that car.  No complaints, great to drive, good gas mileage, etc.   I use the keypad entry all the time for runs, it's much nicer than trying to carry the key.  I have neglected swimming quite a bit, but plan to use it this summer at the lake.   It's been totally worth getting.

Although... the feature I didn't expect to love the most?  Back-up camera.  Revolutionary!
