To be honest.....

I hate when people game the system.  While I admit it is unethical what people did turning in scrap metal for cash.  I still find it funny.  Not agreeing with politics would be one thing.  However, in the case of Chicago, they are admittedly and blatently taking away the rights of gun owners.  Even when the precident was set in D.C. reguarding the issue.  They outright defied the constitution and the Supreme Court Ruling that their law was unconstituitional and openly said they would continue to enforce their law anyway.  With that said, you'll have to excuse me when I laugh about them getting burned with one of their initiatives relating to the subject!

Actually you can legally own a handgun in Chicago now. My friend B-Rad is a gun nut and as soon as the law went into effect got his FOID or whatever card and bought a gun. He keeps wanting me to go shoot with him but I don't want to embarrass him with my mad shooting skills.

I'm not usually one to correct someone's grammar, but I think you mean to say that you have angry shooting skills.

I think the bigger part of the argument is that this government program won't work and that's where the waste is.

Ding ding ding!

There are a number of studies that show that these buy-back programs do nothing to decrease gun violence.  You want to take about waste?  Let's start with the government.

I already posted on this, but whenever TriR and I agree, I like to take special notice of it.  This was a dumb program.  Not sure I like it when anyone games the system, but in this case, the program itself was so poorly conceived, that I really don't have a problem with it.

As to youth gun safety programs, I am all for them.   In fact, I tried to sign one of the kids up for such a program over the summer, but was too late.

Because it means the end is near?

I agree it's a dumb program and believe it should be eliminated. Can you imagine how many government programs would be axed if they shut the dumb ones? We'd have nothing left.

Hmmmmm .......
