All I know is if I want to set a 5k PR, i'm going to seek out a flat course, not a hilly one.

If I want to BQ, i'm going to seek out a flat marathon in Oct/Nov, not in July/aug.

And if I want to break the IM world record, looks like its gonna have to be at Roth.

set a goal, put a plan in place in reach that goal.

Kudos to chrissie for setting the goal to break the WR, than crushing it.

If I recall correctly from my race last year, the bike on Roth was about 6km short (3%). That is about 9 min for Chrissy, nothing major. She is still awsome and total class act.

X2 couldn't have said it better myself. The Kenyans don't go to the Pike Peak Marathon to set the Marathon WR.

That time is just plain sick.

JorgeM - 2009-07-13 9:04 AM I am so impressed by Chrissie and her results. Anytime she toes the line it is a lock she will win but also I bet some of the 2nd tier pros get very nervous

World Record or not, whatev, as an athlete she is a machine and until some of the ITU gals jump into the IM I don't see any lady able to compete with her. Amazing!

Chrissie is in a class by herself. After going 8 for 8 in IM's there is no disputing that. I thought Rebekah Keat at only 7/8min back and Catriona Morrison going 8:48 in her debut IM and having gastro issues and having to stop 4 times for the potty is not bad. Compared to Chrissie's absolute dominance, even after her 10min tire change, at Kona last year the ladies may already be upping their game with those 2 ladies efforts.

Right! And if you want a half ironman PR you go to Eagleman. Didn't Natasha Badmann set a "world best" there in 2007? I know, I know it has since been broken.Tongue out j/k could not resist.

Daremo - 2009-07-12 6:56 PM She is the best currently in the world.  And given time as long as she stays healthy and motivated she may even climb up to the best female long distance triathlete of all time!  I'm certainly not going to deny her abilities!

But Roth is well documented as being short on both the bike and run and it is where everyone goes to set their records an PR's.  The fact that she beat the old record from the same course by 15 minutes is very impressive.  But I would not personally call it the "world record."  Triathlon is ripe with improperly measured courses as opposed to certified running courses.

As I mentioned before, still kick azz for her.  But the time is bogus compared to the ACTUAL distance to me.  She is still far and away the fastest current female long distance triathlete in the world, no doubt.

I knew people were gonna give me a bunch of sh-t for calling out the race for what it is ............ not the true IM distance.  Not discrediting HER effort, but as soon as someone says World Record for IM distance, Roth is ALWAYS the race.  The race is a sham, not her effort and abilities.

IM distance tri's both WTC and Challenge have a 5% acceptance when it comes to distance.. I would say it is well documented that it is short.. I would say it is well debated on whether it is short. Every time this year on ST a new thread starts.

My bike computer showed 110.6 mi. last year although I've found it's short compared to my friends Garmins.  I heard someone at the finish say they had it at 1km short.

But it's just a fast, fast course.  The swim is in a canal so no waves or currents to deal with, the bike on glass smooth roads, very few hard turns and while there are some rolling hills, many of them are short & steep up, gradual down.  And the run is 90% on packed dirt/gravel so it's easier on the legs and a lot of it parallels the canal so its flat.

But it just seemed like a matter of time before Chrissie got the record no matter where it happened.

You might be able to find out on her blog. Or it might be one of those "if she told you..."
