Subject: RE: Pacing a 5kOk, I finished the race. It went pretty well, except I am disappointed with my own heart rate effort. I felt like I didn't push my heart/lungs as hard as I could have. My legs (calves and achilles) were my limiting factor in "pushing it"...not my heart. Anyways, here are my results: Mile 1 - 9:35 min/mile (148 HR avg) (starting with 9,000 other people leads to a slow start) Mile 2 - 8:48 (159 HR avg)
Mile 3 - 8:38 (162 HR avg) My overall time for the 5k was 27:52 with a ~8:58 min/mile, and a 156 avg HR. I'm happy with my time, since it's my first race, and it's much faster than I have been practicing, but like I said, I'm not happy/confident that my avg HR was truly my Lactate Threshold. That means I'll probably need to go out and do another test to find that sometime. Bummer. My legs need to HTFU.
