Elite Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sorry, those are the sisters from the other side of the planet. I have 4 pair of black pants, two pair of khaki's and two pair of jeans. A few sweaters for winter and a few blouses for summer, a pair of brown shoes and a pair of black shoes. and I have not bought one item of new clothing in over a year. I hate and detest shopping and avoid it like the plague. First of all it's a freaking waste of money that could be going into my early retirement fund, and second of all, what the hell do I care what I look like at work - I hate work. Probably not a good attitude for someone who is also in management, but they love me anyway. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I think it probably depends on what industry you're in, as well. I working in advertising/PR and have to dress up a little more, especially for client meetings. My "signature look" (a fashion term- ha!) is that I have a lot of more "unique" jackets and shoes that are stand out from the usual business wear. I don't keep track on a calendar, but I am conscious enough to make sure that I don't wear them too often to the same places. The rule of thumb that I was taught back in the "Dress for Success" days, was not to dress for the job that you have but to dress for the job that you want (i.e. a level above you). So it sounds like your wife is on the right track there. VERY IMPORTANT: Your wife will LOVE you for this information: For designer clothes at discount prices: www.bluefly.com For designer shoes at discount prices: www.gothamcityonline.com For really cool jackets and skirts: www.bostonproper.com (check out the clearance section) Oh! And congratulations on your wife's new job!! |

Buttercup ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hah! Nope, not a political direction; a physical direction. I line them up based on season and formality of dress. I save my power suits for when I have a client visit. I'm quite varied in my look from one day to the next because of our casual environment here. There was a time (90s) when it was appropriate to wear a conservative power suit EVERYDAY, regardless of whether I had a client visit but I do alot of national business (telephone) with people who can't see whether I'm wearing Lands End khakis or Jones NY killer suit. My poor suits are just collecting dust in my suit closet now. bootygirl - 2006-03-15 6:41 PM Renee - 2006-03-15 4:15 PM I tend to start from the right and move to the left (in my choices). No calendar necessary! OK, is this from the right to left in the closet, or do you dress politically to the right first, and go gradually more left. Like on Monday, you wear a Nancy Reagan power suit and by Friday you wear peasant skirts and love beads? |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am not a lady but here is my wardrobe story. I am sitting in Statsitics class waiting for class to start and eavesdropping on the women nearby. They were taking note of the fact that the prof hadn't worn the same outfit twice yet and we were about 6 weeks into the semester (class 3 days a week). I had to butt in and tell them that I had noticed the same thing. The prof heard us all talking and asked what the conversation was about. The women were mortified to tell her so I went ahead and asked her how many weeks she could go without repeating an outfit. She said she could go a full semester maybe more. Being a statistician she had to put in mathematical terms...all I remember is that "n factorial" was in the equation somewhere. She grew up in war torn Viet Nam and it was a matter of personal pride for her to always wear something different. Personally, I liked it better when I was in the navy and wearing the same thing everyday was ok (as long as it didn't stink) |

Science Nerd ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have a lot of clothes and try to be reasonably fashionable, but that really is a lot of work. I try to go as long as possible without wearing the same outfit, which works out to be about once every 3 weeks. I think that it's largely so that I actually wear all of the clothes that I have instead of wearing the same things all the time. I can't imagine tracking it. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() It doesn't. I can't imagine sitting in a class discussing the prof's clothes. When I did research before my kids, I wore a lab coat everyday. I had 3 different lab coats and rotated them to be clean, but unless I was presenting at a lab meeting or something nobody really saw what I wore, or cared. I have a limited wardrobe now that I am at home and often wear the same thing in a week (cleaned of course.) Edited by KSlostStar 2006-03-16 1:32 PM |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am not a girl, but I am also the proud husband of a career woman.... My advise to you.... Let her get what she wants.... Let her know you support her success.... She will think you are an incredible supportive husband and she will be happy about her choices... (you and her clothes)... and make sure to tell her how beautiful she looks in anything she wears... and mean it...
cheers and good luck....

COURT JESTER ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() kimj81 - 2006-03-15 2:32 PM I dress because I hear it's socially unacceptable not to dress. DAMN SOCIETY!!!!!!!!!!! DAMN IT ALL TO H3LL!!!!! Oh yeah, on this topic, I REALLY LIKE being a guy. A dress shirt can be worn at least twice a week...just put on a different tie. Wait, I don't have to do the tie thing at work. Jeans, running shoes, No t-shirts (except Friday). HIP HIP HOORAY FOR BEING A MAN!!!! |

Member![]() | ![]() Sometimes I wish I was a guy so I didn't have to worry about what I'm wearing, but then I just remember how AWESOME it is to be a girl! |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Tracking what you wear isn't unlike tracking how much you ran, swam, or biked, or ate, how fast, how you felt, etc...right? Consider how much we spend on running shoes, clippless shoes, bikes, race fees, etc.....hmmm....look at my ward drobe.... I never track what I wear....I just toss it all in the wash on the weekend & pull out whatever's feeling good that day to wear. I'm management too - and keenly aware of what I wear makes what impression. Then again, I work in a fitness facility, so I notice dirty old runners....or the smell of new ones ![]() Maybe it's a case of the new job jitters and that clothing tracking thing may become tedious as she gets into & comfortable with her routine. Help her be successful...and if she isn't as insane as us (tracking every minute of our runs, bikes, swims), she'll settle eventually. Congrats to her! It's all very exciting & she seems very professional. |

Coach ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I wear one or two pairs of pants throughout the week, and a different, but identical blue scrub top every day. Strange, everyone else at work seems to wear the same thing every day, too... techs - green scrubs secretaries - maroon scrubs nurses - blue scrubs charge nures - black scrubs. What really gets confusing is when a charge nurse works a regular shift and a charge shift back to back. One of our PAs wears hawian shirts everyday. |
