Clempson - 2012-09-20 10:28 PM there is a walmart distribution center with +10ft high razor wire fences just down the road. i'm going there.   plenty of crappy food with preservatives and they sell guns so if i run out of the ammo i bring i can use whats there.  i'm just worried how many others have the same idea...

Dont be worried about who has the same idea... Be worried about how many will already be in there. A Walmart distribution center will easily have one to two hundred people working at one time. Imagine trying to kill all those zombies in order to find a safe haven.

And it's a Walmart.  How will you be able to tell the normal customers from zombies?

Thats what I was thinking. Every time I go to Walmart I think I see a zombie or two. They are just lucky I haven't taken a head shot at them.

The problem I see with the small island is the ability to defend it.  There is not much room to maneuver.  On "my" island you could build a large fence on the bottom side of the bowl and use that as your first line of defense.  The cliff behind the house protects you from the back.

And it's Iceland.  I'm betting there is geothermal heat/power available.

That is a nice big island next to an already small population but the problem I see how will you survive there?

I like these islands especially the first because it already has a wind turbine and solar pannels for power.

Can't make the pic show up here for some reason but here is the link.

Does that have a shark-infested lagoon?

I was figuring the sharks would be outside of the enclosure so that you can still get in swim workouts, and a track could be put on the outer ring for running, but what about a good place to bike? The track on the enclosure would require a carpload of laps for a decent ride.

As for zombie defense, I've had this discussion previously with friends and we figured it depends on if your zombies are of a supernatural-origin or chemical/biological-origin.

If they're a result of a virus or chemical, they still have aerobic metabolisms and so will still require oxygen and digestible energy sources, so they wouldn't be able to walk under water for very long (still need to breathe) and would burn-out and be weak after not having food for a short period (accelerated metabolic rate. I don't remember how we figured that one out).

If they're supernatural, we're escrewado. They could do ANYTHING.

Here's a naive question, but are zombies cold blooded?  It seems like they should be, what with being dead and all, so they'd move extra slow on an island in a cold climate like Iceland, so they'd be easy pickin's

I'm going to throw caution to the wind and just focus on my Zombie skills.  It wouldn't be long before they get me anyway, might as well be a bad a$$ Zombie...

What's the general consensus on this set-up? Just an hour from my house. Decently self sufficient. Keep my swim strong at least.

In World War Z they freeze to a halt in some parts of Canada and they get picked off easily.  So I'd say yep.
