phoenixazul - 2006-10-10 11:13 AM wow...i can't say on how many levels I disagree with this. Here's my thinking...things start happening. Bombs go off, shots are fired, kids ignore the safety plans or panic and head into the hallway, running, yelling, pushing, smoke, fear. Confrontation between marshall and gun toting student with 200 students in a narrow brick hallway...I hope to God Allmighty that that guy's aim is 120% accurate.

Bombs go off??? where are you  OH yea you live in Ireland right now... ok I get it...

Why are all of the school shootings happening in "middle america."  You never see school shootings on either coast.  Discuss.

Maybe the answer is more guns seeing as how Texas does not have any school shootings...

During the Columbine shootings, there were pipe bombs. The most recent school incident involved plans for bombs.

Incidentally, I am from Pittsburgh, went to an inner city public school my entire life.

interesting.... Maybe Texas is just a well adjusted populace - it does seem odd that such a populous state has not had such an occurrence.

My home town of Ashland was right next to Grayson KY where Scott Pennington shot up his school in 93, cant believe it has been that long ago and I believe he did it with a hunting rifle.. but I will check my facts to be sure

Yeah...I'm pretty sure she got it. I just don't think it was an applicable comparison since the last IRA bombing was something like 8 years ago.

That is because bombs have been outlawed in Ireland

Some things that I've seen that have bothered me more than the gun issue:

- The students who knew of plans, a student with a weapon, etc. but would not come forward and say anything until after the fact.
- The parents who don't hold they're kids accountable and blame me or the school when their kid gets in trouble.
- I won't even get started on the juvenile justice systems "point system" that made it next to impossible to make an arrest, even on felony acts (juveniles don't commit crimes...)
-Schools which did not want a Police Officer to come onto campus for any proactive activity like classes, emergency drills, emergency planning, K-9 training, etc. because they didn't want to be known as "that school."

Most of the homicides I've seen in my area were not done with guns, but with blades or blunt objects. Stats in a lot of other places would probably be similar.
