It will be interesting to hear what it was and why ESPN reported earlier that testing showed Ramirez had used hCG, which is typically used by steroid users to restart their bodies' natural testosterone production as they come off a steroid cycle. It is similar to Clomid, the drug Barry Bonds, Jason Giambi and others used as clients of BALCO. |

It will be interesting to hear what it was and why A source said that the substance was HCG, human chorionic gonadotropin, which is prescribed to stimulate female fertility and testosterone production in men and to treat delayed puberty in boys.
Maybe he's not really a he, and Manny is trying to conceive? Or maybe he hasn't made it through puberty yet and the doctor was just trying to move things along. I'm sure it has nothing to do with wanting to increase testosterone production. |

What I hate is the thought of some "honest" kid who has worked his butt off stuck in triple A ball because he was edged out by a few guys with needles in their arms. I would change the highlighted word to "many" or "alot" X2...I can't imagine what the guys back in the 50's and 60's used to get 'an edge'.

Even if some quack prescribed the wrong thing, it is Manny's fault for going to a quack in the first place. However, the reality is that it was very likely part of a masking program and he is dirty, just like much of the rest of the people on the home run lists from the last decade. The only three that come to mind as possibly clean are Ken Griffey Jr., Jim Thome and Frank Thomas. The former never really ballooned up like some of these guys and Thome and Thomas were always big. Those two didn't suddenly shrink with increased testing like others did (I'm looking at you, Pudge Rodriguez). Thomas especially campaigned against steroid use, one of the few in baseball to do so. |
