Subject: RE: Online Dating
I met my wife through the classifieds as opposed to online.  Still, we've been together for over ten years now.  I did meet a lot of women who had outright lied in their statements about themselves and but I did meet a lot of nice decent women.  It was different than online dating in that our intial estimation of each other was based on a brief message in the local newspaper and the subsequent telephone conversation.  At least online you can send images to each other and discuss your likes and dislikes a little more in depth.  Be truthful  about who you are and what you are and you should be okay. You can weed out the dorks who ask you what size "tatas" you have or which movie star you look like!  They may have only one thing on their feeble minds!

I agree about the comments on profiles. DO not lie, but expect others would
Yeah, I posted the picture but I was paranoic. I would go out and see guys faces everywhere ("Ummmm, have I've met this guy before? Ohhhhhh.... match.com).
Funny thing about the profiles..... Not that you have to lie but you have to keep changing your profile (at least I had to) until fine tuning it. The way you word things will attract some people...
I said I was professional with a master's degree.... few replies. Left the Masters out and the replies started to show (I guess I was overqualified for dating LOL)...
I like Baseball and F1 racing and I mentioned that on my profile. Well, I got all these sports nuts e-mails... I met this guy, very nice guy but he was a football super extra fan! Our conversation would go like this every week: "What are you doing Friday?" Well, there is this game I want to see... "And Sunday?" Well, it is Sunday football! 2 important games today..... "What about Monday?" Oh, my team is playing, have to watch.... I am glad I met him during wrong season. With my luck I, would've fallen in love with him and spend my life in Football..... "heaven?" (BTW I do not like football )
But overall it was a worthwhile experience. Give it a try. Luckily, like me, you would have funny stories to tell. I didn't meet "the guy" but I had fun and it helped me get over the dating hump.

I found it very interesting that soooooooooo many guys write that the woman of their choice must be physically fit, that they enjoy an active lifestyle and want a woman who does the same. Then, when you trade an emails, they ask if you're fit... when you say "Well, I'm getting fit. I train for triathlons and workout 6 days a week." they start backpedaling! Suddenly, they're saying "Well, I don't workout as much as I used to, nothing intense like what you do... etc etc etc" like you're going to judge their fitness as much as they would like to judge yours.

They're hypocritical and they assume to much.

Rocket Man - 2005-10-05 8:57 AM Personally I think a BT dating board would be a great idea. Were I not already a married man then I think that I would find me a nice tri chick! Think about it you already have at least 3 things in common and lets face it this is and obsessive type of lifestyle.

Hey Brett!  Iam designating you as my Atlanta match maker.  Since you are a tri coach and all (and have a brother) you can let me know if any good catches come your way

rbschlesinger - 2005-10-06 10:21 PM wow, four posts in a row about geting a set up

LOL- I feel so retarded.  My home computer is SO SLOW and I didn't think it went through.  So being impatient I kept hitting submit and next thing I know there's a million posts!  Talk about appearing desperate!

I totally agree with you on the back pedaling. This is what many of them mean:

1) "I love the outdoors. I am into hiking." --- translated means --- My idea of hiking is the flat paved trail by the river.

2) "I love the outdoors. I am into camping." --- translated means --- My idea of camping is the Super 8 with continental breakfast.

3) "I backpack." --- translated means --- I carry the tent from the car to the camp site.

4) "I workout on a consistent basis." --- translated means --- My workout consists of exercising my thumbs on PS2 and/or the remote control with the ocassional jaunt to the fridge.

I went on match.com just to look around since I was moving to a small town and wondered whether there were any single women at all in the area. There was only one, but she was absolutely gorgeous. I worked my magic and the rest is history.(tongue firmly planted in cheek) We've been together eight months and expect to grow old together. My experience was limited to this one, but apparently you can attract lots and lots and lots of attention online, even out here in the sticks, with a pretty smile and witty banter.

As far as lying goes, I usually prefer honesty, but in this case I told her I looked like a cross between George Clooney and Brad Pitt and she fell for it long enough for me to lay on the charm. The brief look of disappointment on her face at our first meeting was a small price to pay for lifelong happiness. So use your own best judgment. But, in my opinion, online dating is the way to go, if you are selective and patient and careful.

Wow, we had that exact conversation. I think I even mumbled "etc etc etc" like that.

When men say "fit", they mean "not fat". I thought that was common knowledge. Actual fitness requires much too much effort.
